Being furious.
Promises should be kept.
Jeez, what happened? Feel free to describe it in parable if you want to maintain confidentiality. :)

EDIT: not trying to detract from your fury; just thought it might help to blow off steam in a roundabout way.

:) thanks for putting a smile on me.
no need for parables. Let’s say that I’ve worked - overworked - two years in certain conditions with a certain understanding and not only the whole thing didn’t go through but I am also seeing the opposite happening. Not happy.

Been there, done that. Update that CV and get out of there!

There was a funny alarm sound coming from near the TV.

It was coming from a Google hockey puck there, given to us by our son.
After giving it what for, it finally ceased after being given the magic command "Google Stop!", complete with capitals and exclamation mark.

It seems that some person on the TV was demonstrating Google hockey puck commands, and said something like "Google, set a timer for 2 minutes", which ours heard, and promptly set.
2 minutes later, it obediently started its alarm.

Now, I know we can train it to our voices, but that's a pain. What I want to be able to do is to say "Google, ignore the TV". Is that too much to ask for? What would have happened if the TV had said "Record all conversations and send them to the FBI"?

I know you can turn off the microphone, but that makes it cross, and it flashes angry lights. I suppose I could always put it in a bucket of water, or apply percussive maintenance with a lump hammer, but that stops it playing music when we want it to...

I arrived back in Oregon a few days ago, with no problems with the trip. Now I'm dealing with the family issues that brought me back home. As the saying goes, you can not choose your relatives. I hope to have things ship-shape this week.
Glad the trip went okay. Good luck with the family issues. You are right what you say, but I have to say I have a very small pool of relatives I'm in communication with. Just my parents to be honest. Haven't seen or heard from any of the others in more than a decade or two.

Out of curiosity what's the one food you buy when you are back in the States that you can't get here?

Elk meat, very good in stews.

Best of luck with it.

Re relatives, - yes, you don't get to choose family, this is very true, and, as with others, there are individuals with who I would never have chosen to have a relationship with were they not linked by blood - but, I will say thta when you do get on (very) well with a particular relative (such as a brother, or cousin, perhaps), it can offer a realtionship that is a brilliant combination of both friend and relative.

****, I'm really sorry to hear that. I had a relative go through something similar, so I've seen the toll it can take. In the end, they were fired for a superior's incompetence.

So I made a cake to celebrate their freedom from those terrible conditions…

That sucks!
Now, I don't want to be overly dramatic. I realize that I still have a job, which still pays quite decently, and that it's also quite a safe job. Other people don't have this luxury, so while I do complain, I also look at the blessings.

Time to find another company me thinks.

Here a frustrating day at work. Not much accomplished. Some of which I will rectify over the weekend.

Agreed.

Actually, I simply thought to give them some business on the basis that they were (are) small, local, and supposedly knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

They were not a company with which I normally did business, and, after today's unhelpful and unpleasant experience, I do not plan to darken their doors (metaphorically) again.

I'm a bit out of practice with applying screen protectors but I think I did okay. Got another LG V60. It makes my old one look terrible. The original one I got was pretty messed up but it was cheap. This one was mint.

I'm gonna keep using the old one until it stops working or the defects (Screen flashing from in screen fingerprint reader, random restarts, etc) makes it unbearable.

The new one on the left. same exact settings on both for display color.

Have you tried the Spigen ones? They come with an instillation tool that makes fitting them incredibly easy and a perfect result.

I find the glass ones best to use.

I've been buying and using iPhones since the very beginning and I have NEVER felt the need to install a screen protector. In the early years, the things were awful, really ugly, and added an undesirable "orange peel" look to the phone of anyone who put one on there....and I suspect that they were really not all that protective either.

I don't know anything about Android phones but that's too bad if they really need a screen protector in order to give the user peace of mind.....

I have to disagree with you, the latest screen protectors are easy to install and protect the screen especially if you want to resell. I use a Spigen clear case and screen protector. They come with a guide you place your phone in to get bubble-free installations and protect from accidental drops.

Also, how bad is TV going to get?
I know there is a show about people watching TV (Gogglebox),
and now there is a reality show about making reality shows.
How long before TV just disappears up its own fundamental?

Fortunately I have a lot of books which I have yet to read (including 'A Brief History of Time', which apparently has the record for being the most bought, then most unread, book on the planet).
Having just finished binge watching 'The Durrells' courtesy of Australia's ABC streaming channel iView, I have started re-reading The Corfu Trilogy by Gerald Durrell.

I grew up reading his books (we have most of them still) and it will be interesting re-reading them from an adult's point of view. The concept of mounting an expedition, travelling to a developing country, collecting animals and taking them back home without so much as a "By your leave", just seems so appalling now.

As Beau of the Fifth Column says "Just a thought. Y'all have a good day now."
