I saw this story yesterday, and yes, listened closely to both songs, my mind very much on my mother.

Yes, thoughts of my mother were what first crossed my mind, when I heard this news.

Thank you.

As did I.

She would have loved the two songs.

Two lovely posts; thank you, both of you; much appreciated.

Her birthday would have been last week (August 28) and yes, ABBA would have been played for her.

Dancing, singing, and conducting in time with her hands to the music (when she could no longer dance), a beam of a smile positively splitting her face.
Happy memories. It’s nice that you have those. I’m sure she would have enjoyed them.

Very happy, and a lot less bitter sweet than they used to be.

Yep, SS, I too, immediately thought of your mother when I heard the news. Haven't listened yet to the two new songs but am definitely planning to do so and more than likely will buy the album, too.

Ah, how sweet and kind of you to pen this post. Thank you.

Actually, I am so grateful to ABBA, and devoutly, heartily wish I could find a way of telling them so; they gave my mother so much pleasure, happiness and sheer joy in her final years; even if in a grumpy mood (which wasn't as often as it might have been, given her condition), ABBA always put a smile on her face and totally transformed her mood, - she would just light up - when I (or the carer, or a brother) pressed "play" on the CD player where the "ABBA Gold" CD lived (undisturbed) for several years prior to her death.

As more as this ABBA reunion lands, I think it’s more likely than not that we might see even more material after this.
I mean they have actually built (are building) a new arena in London for the ABBA-tars to perform in.
If they are this tightly united now and have space for this in their lives now. Upgrown kids and all.
Why not continue if it was so much fun?
Circumstances seems favorably for more things going on in the brains of ABBA 😉

I've now watched the videos of both new songs, and I much prefer "Don't Shut me Down" to "I Still Have Faith in You," but both are nice. I am a little confused by the whole "virtual concert" thing with avatars/digital versions of themselves. If I were paying for concert tickets I'd rather see the four members of ABBA as they are today, even if they are forty years older! Actually, in a photo I've seen they look pretty darned good for their ages.....

I received a text that a coup d’ etat has taken place in Conakry, Guinea, a country I worked in and taken R&R in while working in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Guinean Special Forces have detained the President and have asked for calm while the transition takes place. Hopefully, there will not be too many fatalities.

That’s always the hope. Sadly not often the reality.
Work is on my mind. I should probably start some in a bit.

It's mostly a matter of money I belive.
Fun trivia, I knew ABBA's bassist quite well, he wasn't that famous thou, but a nice guy named Rutger Gunnarsson († 1946-2015)
The mind behind some of the famous bass lines in their old material.
Like for example "Dancing Queen". Her he is in some sort of interview situation a couple of years ago.

Everybody can make their own interpretations, fine with me.
I don't share that opinion at all though. Think they all are just doing fine financially.
Remember their guitarist and your friend, sorry for your loss.

I'm just glad they are this united again. It's more than obvious to me that they are having a lot of fun together again....and out of it comes new songs.

As a former musician myself its never about the "art" or the "passion"
It's always about the money. Otherwise all musicians would work for free I assume.

Well, singing together and doing concerts might be fun, but in the entertainment world there are a lot of things that surround the fun stuff. Dealing with agents, lawyers, labels, financial institutions, etc. probably make for 80% of the actual work successful people have to actually do, let alone having constant pressure from fans that want new material every year. Sometimes it's just better to call it quits, and enjoy the results of your success.

Touring is 85% hard work, logistics and (a lot of) waiting. 10% socializing and 5% soundchecks and on stage actually performing. The ratio of having "fun" wasn't that high as I recall.
In the beginning/early days, sure, but later on with family and likewise, not so.

ABBA might drop music even after this upcoming album, but that will prolly be based on how this record and tour will "sell" if it flops, I can't imagine they're going back this road again.

I am pretty passionate about my job but I wouldn't do it for free. Money and passion are not mutually exclusive.

I still play, but completely for free sometimes, not touring in any kind thou. Just private events every now and then (friends, family and so on) I decide if, where and when myself :)

No way this is going to flop 😊 They probably made $100,000,000 just on my permanent "repeat" of the two tracks on Apple Music 😛

True that. I think this will go well. The songs are great. To analyze the "Don't Shut me Down" song they've nailed the ABBA-sound completley. Really good one. I'm looking forward hearing the rest. I think the release date (album) is november the 5:th.

Nailed it? Don’t you think it was probably 90% written and just not released back in the day? I’m not really an ABBA fan. Just not my thing.
