On a happier note, I convinced my organization to buy me an automatic standing desk. So far it has been life changing. I now stay in standing position about half of my day, and my lower back pain has reduced already. I also noticed that I stay less in a hunched position when I am working on the computer.
Funny, I'm trying to get a new comfortable chair to sit in all day. My back is no bargain either.

I’ve had a VariDesk desk converter for a few years now. Not a dedicated standing desk; it sits on my corner desk. It has to be raised/lowered manually, but doing so is simple and easy. I also have a TerraMat, which works even better when working in stocking feet.

And, speaking of work, retirement is on my mind.

It amazes (and at times dismays) me that I’m at the point in life where I won’t be working at a full-time job for very much longer. Perhaps a year.

It is at once appealing and terrifying.

Enjoy it. My Dad retired a couple of years ago now and he’s not really got used to it yet. I don’t think the pandemic helped. Had to cancel his holiday plans.
I’m not sure I’ll ever be in a position to retire.

I got out 10 years age after 40 years in education . Just a couple of thoughts:

1: You'll know when it's time . I know I did , something inside my head said 'I don't want to do this any more."
2: Get your finances in order before you go . Get estimates from your pension/401K plan , plus Social Security to get an idea as to what your options are . Check out Medicare , and other health insurance options . You really don't want any surprises .
3: When you decide to go out , keep busy . Not 9 to 5 busy , but active with hobbies ,clubs , maybe a weekly or monthly lunch/brunch group with friends , day trips ( I try to do a local 'field trip' once a week if possible.) A vacation , or mini vacation once or twice a year.
You don't want to end up being some miserable old fart who spends time looking out the window waiting for the garbage truck to pass by and yelling at the local kids to get off his grass .

Good Luck!!!

So now the second week of the Fall semester begins. A really good start last week with a smaller but great group of students (all sophomores about 20-22 years old) who really are motivated to come under out current circumstances. All are vaccinated and I took them for their rapid tests last week - all negative. Initial orientation, a tour of Old Geneva and Lausanne all went well. Hopefully the resT of the semester goes as well.

uhm... I tried to hard reset the phone, so I can't even set it up it anymore...
Oh, there's a way… but you aren't going to like it…

If you connect to your computer, you can turn on Voice Over, rapidly press the screen to skip the home button press, and then disable it after and use as normal:

If you want to follow along, it couldn't hurt to pop an anti-nausea pill, too.

this is... insane.

Debating with myself if Luminary is worth the new price ($2.99/mo). I truly enjoy Russel Brand's interview style, his openness to new ideas, and how he handles things he disagree with.

ABBA released two brand new songs, and an album will be released this week. I can't believe it. It has been 40 years since the last song.
Time flies 🦅

I saw their broadcast yesterday.
I’ve heard some whispers about it the latest few yrs.
But a whole new album was beyond expectation.
The voices of the girls sounded extremely good. It was breathtaking!
Agnetha has given out a few albums on her own. So I knew some of the evolvement of her voice.
But Frida hasn’t recorded much at all. But wow 😮

Looking forward to the rest of the songs to be released.
They can still do it, and renew a few things too ⭐️

Absolutely! I am impressed by how they kept the same 1970’s vibe but still sounded original. I am utterly impressed.

listening to “Don’t Shut Me Down” I wonder if it’s some sort of message. The first song they release is about not shutting down being different after leaving.

Well, how many epic bands come together and do a new album after 40 yrs?
In their 70’s!?
I am sure they heard critic, and have hesitated in their golden age.
But the reunion between them has obviously been magical
Wasn’t meant to be more then ~2 songs I heard from start.

But they seemed to enjoy their reunion a lot, and got 'fired up'
Also think they wanted to show some people that had spreading false rumors about their relation to each other too. What a better way then produce music together.

I saw this story yesterday, and yes, listened closely to both songs, my mind very much on my mother.

Yes, thoughts of my mother were what first crossed my mind, when I heard this news.

Yes I read about that. I can’t hear about ABBA without thinking of @Scepticalscribe late Mother.

Thank you.

As did I.

She would have loved the two songs.
After listening to the two released songs, I am sure that Scepticalscribe’s mom today is dancing and singing along in the heavens. The songs are the perfect homage to all of their fans.
Two lovely posts; thank you, both of you; much appreciated.

Her birthday would have been last week (August 28) and yes, ABBA would have been played for her.

Dancing, singing, and conducting in time with her hands to the music (when she could no longer dance), a beam of a smile positively splitting her face.
