I've now had the Mac Mini for less than 2 weeks and I'm very happy with it.

Though now that I own a Mac and have been using iPads for almost 10 years now, I totally get what some folks mean about how Apple is treating macOS. Some elements of macOS are so similar to the iPad that it effectively flattened whatever learning curve there was for me. That and software like Rectangle for better window management.

But after years of Windows 8/10, it feels like everyone is developing their desktop experience with mobile users in mind. To me, that's neither good or bad, I'm used to it at this point.

Ok, possibly a very stupid question…

If on my iPad I disable under Settings —> iCloud Photos, that won’t touch my actual icloud photos and the setting on my iPhone, correct? It will just free up space on the iPad, right?

yes that only affects your iPad. Now if you go to your iCloud settings (the one at the top that has your user thumbnail) and turn it off there, then it will affect all of your apple devices.

Almost just a week left to the keynote.
If it is on March 8, International Womens Day and all.
Never looked forward to a keynote this much, or to buy a new desktop Mac for that matter.
We will see soon now. Come on Timmy ?? Announce it!

I think the store I used to work at sold duct tape like that, but it never sold super well.

To me the main guy in The Loop after MacCental and MacWorld before they were bought out and fired all their reporters! Jim has been part of the MacWorld back from the mid 90s! He's old welled real Mac Reporter and I sure hope he enjoys his retirement!

My love as a spectator of sports is rapidly draining away, and my social media following accounts are maybe set to shrink a lot. :(

I go at phases to be honest. I guess that after two years limited by Covid I just want to do something where other people are present. Plus my kid loves going to watch baseball or soccer games.

Baseball and soccer are great, I love hockey and over the last few years have discovered a love for figure skating. I don't want to get into why the last is ruined for me, not least of which my view on it would probably go against the grain. I might have gone to the World's in Montpellier but have no desire to do so now.

I assume I know the why … I read about some… controversies.

As for baseball it seems that players, owners, and the league are doing anything in their power to destroy the game.

I basically stopped watching sports 2 decades ago. Mostly because I got tired of watching a bunch of million dollar paid cry babies. I’d still watch an occasional game, maybe some playoffs, for some background din, some conversation at the “office cooler” the next day. Then the clowns started getting on social media acting like their opinion mattered on things outside of their sport. I’m sorry but clowns get paid to juggle balls and shut the hell up. If I wanted to hear x and y I’d read a book on it, or learn from an expert in that field. I’ve completely stopped watching any sports now, never to return.

I checked up where the closest bomb shelters are around here today.
NEVER happened before! Were quite a few close.
The Russians are not that far away from Sweden. Not that I think they will dare to come after us. We are a pretty neutral country, usually. But I’ve heard everything but neutral comments lately.
So in these time, better to know than not. Fingers can slip...?

We have 500,000 people being, or being told to, evacuate in NSW due to the flood.
That's not including Queensland. I don't have the numbers for them.
We have had whole towns, like Lismore, under water. That's not just water up to your front door. That's most of the houses under water up to the top of the roof.

I thought there might be some value in a general topic-less thread to share random thoughts, ideas, and personal news that aren’t otherwise thread-worthy.

So, within compliance of applicable federal laws, regulations, and Community Discussion rules: what’s on your mind?
[doublepost=1536426505][/doublepost]Yesterday I attended a Naturalization Ceremony for forty-one American citizens.

In 1776 the population of America was roughly 2,500,000.
Today its 325,700,000 and 41.

This is the second ceremony I’ve attended. Both were moving. I was a bit disappointed with yesterday’s speakers but it was a pleasure being in attendance to honor these new citizens.
May you live all the days of your life.”

What is the situation where you live? Take care of yourself!

Today was the first day back in the office in almost 2 years. After about 30 minutes or so it was as if I’d never been away. It was nice to see colleagues again but in reality I thought “what’s the point”? Hardly any work got done with computers not working properly, programmes not opening correctly or missing. The effort required to get up, get ready, travel in (at least an hour) then the drive home (another 30 minutes) just doesn’t seem worth it to me. Management say going back into the office for 40% of the time is for staff’s mental health. What about the stress of actually getting to and from the office? For me, not worth it….

Some of us never stopped. We still have about 20% who refuse to come in. Their mental health is not what it was before the pandemic in my opinion.
I think most firms will offer a hybrid model going forward. That’s my preference.

I just think people should be given the choice. If you are doing your job to a satisfactory standard and are happy working from home then you should be allowed to. It won’t be for everyone but the choice should be there. These last 2 years have proven it can work.
