I work in IT and I'm always just amazed at how much goes on behind the scenes that most people are completely unaware of. The complexity behind our organizations hybrid cloud environment is astonishing and the people that I work under are nothing short of geniuses.

Also Apple products are too expensive :)

I just opened my copy of Ubuntu, and was greeted with this as my wallpaper

victor.jpg

I have been on the camera end of this image (not this one actually).
His name was Victor. He was cross with me, and wanted to scatter my entrails across his enclosure.
Fortunately, the reason I was in there to take the picture was that his antlers had just dropped off.
I still had two antler-nubbin bruises on my midriff.

Ok, possibly a very stupid question…

If on my iPad I disable under Settings —> iCloud Photos, that won’t touch my actual icloud photos and the setting on my iPhone, correct? It will just free up space on the iPad, right?

I'm not 100% sure but I think so? I mean, it must do surely? Let us know when you find the answer please.

I believe you are right, it would disconnect your device from iCloud storage. One of the issues have with Apple and how it handles images, is that with iCloud storage turned on it tries to keep everything synced, including deleting a image, deletes it everywhere, where maybe you want something stored but not on your device.

PRecisely. I want my iPad to have zero pictures from iCloud. Literally zero. I’d uninstall the Photos app from my iPad if I could. Yet, no matter what I do, about 10GB are used for pictures. It’s frustrating.

So if you disable the functionality and then wipe any remaining images from Photos you should be good to go I think.

Yeah I hope that it doesn’t delete them from iCloud once (if) I reactivate the function. It’s truly infuriating.

Just to have something else on our mind for a few seconds…
today is David Lynch’s Twin Peaks Day (date in which the 1st episode of Twin Peaks is based). Also, of historical interest, today is the date in which the Zimmerman telegram was released in 1917.

anyone
take a month off
from the internets?
my quest starts
in March
Had that quite naturally a lot, when meditating intensely.
Not entirely, as we actually need to do stuff through online services etc. today. I am not going back to the 'stoneage' before internet. But definitely stayed out of forums and other stuff long times that can serve as distractions if we chose so. Neither do I give much for social media. Only have Twitter, that I totally forget about for very long times.
But no, March is when the new Mac Mini Pro hopefully comes, hell no I am missing the 8th March presentation 😉

Have a great time 👍🏼

Morning all. It is a beautiful morning here in the North of England. Working today but feeling good!

It is puzzling why Photos does not have a setting that can isolate 1 or more of your iOS devices from the Cloud or just keep content in the cloud. I am migrating my photo library over to Google Photos for this reason.
