So *you* don't want to pay extra for more storage?

Why should 90% of people, who would never fill 16GB, subsidise the fact that you don't want to pay for more storage?

Nobody should be paying extra. $199 for 32GB.

You can get the 16GB for $99. I'm saving you money.

I paid less than a 5c and I got 32GB. $199 for 16GB is a scam at this point.

P.S again, I'm going to get the 64GB iPad. So yes. I'm paying extra. Should cost me $699.

iPhone should be 32-64-128GB. Leave the 16GB for the $99 one.

A friend of mine bought a 5s a few months ago. It was the 64GB one. He has about 2GB left now.

At some point, the 16GB has to be killed. Just like they killed the 64GB Macbook Air.

By your logic iPhone should start at 4GB, because that is what it used to be (I'm sure that was the best seller then), and if you want more then pay more.

Should cost? How so? Nobody is forced to buy it.

I'm clearly in the minority but find 16gb perfectly fine for both iPad and iPhone. I have 7gb left on my phone after two years and have 6fb left on my iPad 3 that I've had since launch.

That said if I used my phone to listen to music too it would be a different story. I have 90gb if music on my iPod Classic.

I don't need to store films, I mostly use XBMC to stream on the iPad.

I do think they should be as stated though. 16gb should be 16gb useable space. Not 16gb minus the space for the OS and the space for the apps apple don't let you delete (stock app etc).

I never listen to any music on my iPhone, and there is none stored on it. I still use 28GB of storage though. Videos, photos and apps.

Perhaps Apple will gear the high end model for the heavy user, and the "c" models for the light average user? Maybe that's what Apple will do in the end. They will make the high end premium models with 32 gigs being the lowest storage, and the "c" models being for the light user because they start at 16 gigs and only go to 32 gigs. I'd really like to see what Apple does with the 16 gigs of storage, but my bet is that they'll keep it for the "c" models. :apple:

Well. Tell Samsung has 16gb model as well. And they only have 8-9gb. Usable space to install apps.

Regardless of sd card. Its a pain on some android phones as well.

End of the day. Its about profit margins. Cellular phones especially higher end make huge profits.

What better way than to Jack up prices from 16 to 32gb.

They should keep the 16GB for enterprise I think. I have a 16GB for work and it's locked down. No point to have anymore than 8GB to be honest for enterprise use.

They're not. It's a perfect entry level size.

Why have an 'entry level' on a high end smartphone? The base model should be a phone usable by most people, not one dictated by price alone. Most get the 16GB because it's the cheapest, and not because they wouldn't like more. See the rest of this thread for reasons why.

Well, last month I used 106GB on 3 - I do live in central Edinburgh, though, and always have a good signal.

3 looks like my next network. If they do monthly contracts without a phone, when my iPhone 5 is out of contract, I'll switch to them and buy my next iPhone outright from Apple themselves.

I would think it is what you said. The ones buying the 16GB first purchase, load up a few apps and then have room to spare.

Besides, it's only entry level because most people who are new to Apple are buying that one.

It's only a $100 price difference.

I started with a 32GB 4 because I thought I had a lot if music. Turned out I used only half the memory so when we got the 5, I went with 16GB. I have a little over 3 GB free, but I took some of the music off. And I'm tight about keeping pics on the phone. I let them sit on the iMac.

I think with the 6, I'll go back to 32GB. For sure with my next iPad.

Wahy would Apple get rid of the most popular model.

They wouldn't. They would just make it 32GB. It wouldn't cost you any more.

That sums it up.

Do we really need yet another thread where some state their need for a larger storage, and others claim they don't?

This isn't about that.

It is about killing the 16GB phone. Or substitute the 8GB with the 16GB.

The entry level iPhone should start at 32GB. If you want 16GB, then I'm saving you $100. Just pay $99 and get it.

I never said I needed more storage. If you need more then you pay more. I'm saying charging $760 for a 16GB phone is insane. This isn't 2009.

The flagship phones that are 16GB all have SD cards.

It seems like a good idea. Start at 32, then do 64, and 128.

But the truth is, they would lose money that way. Once you get past a certain size, they won't go up.

They determined that 16GB is what people need.

I'm sure it costs them pennies to buy the nand.

An iPhone 5s 16GB costs Apple $199 to manufacture. Selling price $650

An iPhone 5s 32GB costs Apple $208 to manufacture. Selling price $750

An iPhone 5s 64GB costs Apple $220 to manufacture.
Selling price $850

If they sell the 32GB for $650, then they would be making $442 instead of $451.

It costs them $9 bucks to make the phone 32GB, but it costs you $100.

It has nothing to do with losing money. It is a price driven by marketing.

Lol 16gb is by most people. Not everyone loads every album on their phone.

That maybe true for manufacturing but not in actual profit.

They will lose 100 dollars from the people that would normally upgrade to 32gb since those people would no longer need to. Plus you'd have the people that don't normally get 32 gb that will be essentially getting free 16 gb extra at Apples expense.

I'd be overjoyed if the base model was 32 gb. I just don't see it happening. They still sell the 4S/5C with 8gb in certain locations. I really wouldn't care if data plans were more affordable to utilize cloud services.

They just manufacture what people use. Hardly anybody buys a 64. And very few of us on this forum have even seen a 128 gig.

I don't mind the mark-up they're getting on it.

You don't mind paying $100 for an additional 16GB of flash memory on an already expensive device which has no SD slot, and where the minimum memory allowance is insufficient for many people?
32GB is perfectly sufficient for most folk, nobody is asking for 64GB to be the base model, but 16GB is extremely stingy these days.

It will be what it will be. I do not think apple will get rid if the 16gb model in the US. It seems to be the sweet spot for a lot of iPhone users.

We shall see but I bet 16gb is their most popular phone and the cost of the xtra 16gb multiplied by millions of iPhones is real money to Apple.

Do not get me wrong and would love to see a 128gb iPhone. Who knows, you and I do not!

I am not sure if the

16GB iPhone is the best selling
or
Cheapest iPhone is the best selling

I would rally hope 16GB is NOT the base this time around. but who knows.

They could offer 16GB for the regular $199 (2-year contract)...then the 32GB for $249...64GB $299 and 128GB for $349

They'd lose out $50 on the 32, lose $100 on the 64 but with those prices, people might be more inclined to pay a "little" more and get the next size up.

sort of like the %=5C to 5S sales how some thought for a little more, they get a better phone.
