I am not sure if the

16GB iPhone is the best selling

or

Cheapest iPhone is the best selling

I would rally hope 16GB is NOT the base this time around. but who knows.

They could offer 16GB for the regular $199 (2-year contract)...then the 32GB for $249...64GB $299 and 128GB for $349

They'd lose out $50 on the 32, lose $100 on the 64 but with those prices, people might be more inclined to pay a "little" more and get the next size up.

sort of like the %=5C to 5S sales how some thought for a little more, they get a better phone.

That would be nice. The competition has been offering a jump in storage for 50 bucks for a little while now. And I believe the base model starts at 32 gb on the M8.

This is a trend I'd like to see apple follow. Still don't have my hopes up though.

They just manufacture what people use. Hardly anybody buys a 64. And very few of us on this forum have even seen a 128 gig.

I don't mind the mark-up they're getting on it.

Wow....just wow.

People will excuse Apple for anything. Apple has a tremendous markup..and you're just fine with it. Do you have the same patience and understanding for the cell phone companies? Or home internet provider? A pharmaceutical company? Big oil?

As consumers we should always want the most bang for our buck. Flash memory prices have tumbled since the original 16 big base model was introduced. The only thing keeping the price inflated is Apple's greed to keep their profit margins as high as possible.

As a consumer I hate it. And I hate that I keep supporting them wringing every last dollar I can out of me.

Exactly. The 16GB storage option is the 'most popular' purely because it's the most affordable. If the 16 and 32GB models were the same price, how many people would choose the 16GB option because it suited their needs best? Not all that many I would wager.

Only because it's the most affordable? It's not like a cheaper 8GB would sell.

With pioneering cloud storage technologies such as iCloud, and iTunes in the iCloud, 16GB is enough storage for everyone. There's certainly no need for Apple to discontinue 8GB and 16GB storage as the starting base.

There are privacy issues with Cloud storage, not everyone is comfortable with it. Then there are issues with allowances, not many people want to pay. Then there are network connectivity restrictions...

You know you do t have to put up with apples "inflated" pricing scheme. You're right thought, I do want to most bang for my buck. I don't understand why they just don't be done with it and only sell a 64gb model for $199.

Because they tried it in Europe and India. And plus, look at this thread.

I think an 8GB is the point where you're not getting enough value for your $$$.

How would you not be getting enough bang for your buck it there was an 8GB iPhone 6 priced *cheaper* than the typical 16GB model? Surely it would prove who needs more storage, and who buys the cheapest option.

Back when I was your age our iPhones started at 4GB. You youngin's don't know how good you have it!

Cameras had way fewer megapixels and thus photos commanded less storage space. Videos weren't HD and likewise they took up less space. People had iPods and didn't tend to load their phones up with music. Flash memory was more expensive etc.

Or with the way flash memory prices have gone down....they could somehow manage to squeeze by selling 20,000,000 units making 71% profit margin instead of 72%.

But I get it. I used to work for a big Pharma company....and people seemed to always complain we charged too much...

Aren't the 8gb 5C's selling yell in India? That is the only size I ever see mention of on this forum.

I wouldn't be surprised if your average user was OK with paying $99 for an 8G iPhone 6. That wouldn't necessarily mean they would buy it over a 16G for $199 but it does raise the interesting question of how conscious the average user is about how much space they need.

I know we discuss this fairly often but I hardly ever hear people talking about the capacity of their phones/devices outside of that.

For the first time ever, I've run out of space on my iPhone. Next upgrade will have to be to a 32GB. Would be nice if that is the base model by then!

The amount of Apple apologists in threads like this never ceases to amaze me.

"16gb is the biggest seller! Why would they drop it?" - The ONLY reason the 16gb model is the biggest seller is because it's the cheapest. If 32gb were the base model, IT would be the biggest seller. Is it really so hard to understand that logic?

"You can get any size you want, you just have to pay the price." - While true, I think we've all known for a long time that Apple's premium for doubling the storage is INSANELY high. $100 just to double the storage (when it costs Apple pennies on the dollar to do the same?) C'mon...stop taking up for them and call it what it really is...a money grab, pure and simple.

"Apple products are premium products and thus you have to pay a premium price." - Could someone that says this sound like more of an arrogant d-bag? Again, the premium that Apple charges for their products is insane. Yes, all OEMs overcharge for their phones, no doubt. But the pure arrogance of Apple and it's users takes it to an entirely different level.

It's just a gut feeling, but I do think Apple finally makes the change this year and drops the 16gb model and comes with the 32, 64, and 128gb spread, all while keeping the 32gb base model at the $650 price point that the 16gb is currently at. Why not? If they're finally giving in to the "bigger screen" crowd, why not give in to the "moar GB!!!" crowd?

Quality post Sir.

That maybe true for manufacturing but not in actual profit.

They will lose 100 dollars from the people that would normally upgrade to 32gb since those people would no longer need to. Plus you'd have the people that don't normally get 32 gb that will be essentially getting free 16 gb extra at Apples expense.

I'd be overjoyed if the base model was 32 gb. I just don't see it happening. They still sell the 4S/5C with 8gb in certain locations. I really wouldn't care if data plans were more affordable to utilize cloud services.

Except they would also make a 128 gig model people would buy, they also don't have micro-sd cards so the only way apple can compete is to increase the memory so they don't loose sales.

You sir, resemble that remark about apologists. These people are not apologists, they are living in reality. Maybe there is a reason, and I don't mean anything by this, you are not running apple.

WTF does that even mean? What am I an apologist for? You sound like a 5-year old that can't think of a good comeback..."you're a meany head...no you're a meany head!"

By the way, you obviously sit squarely in the Apple Apologists Club. Have a nice time.

Or they could pull a page from what they do with iPads and just slot the 128 GB version at $949.

I think what he might be saying is that most people in this thread are saying Apple makes the 16gb because they make more money that way. So why would they stop?

That is what is called a realist, not apologist.
