Ordered a single six core and ati 5870 - should be out on 24th aug. and delivered by 31th aug.

surprise: today i got the email from apple that it was sent out today and i should get it before or on 24th aug. Yeah... cannot wait :D

I wonder why they would do that when the memory controller on the processor can handle 2 DIMMs per channel at full speed.

I do see the section you mention, though, where they say adding memory to that slot will result in reduced performance, but they do not explicitly say that it drops to single channel. They are very ambigous about what happens. They make that note specifically in the tripple channel configuration. They mark those 2 DIMM slotes as sharing a channel while the remaining 2 are each given their own channel, which sort of makes me believe that the one channel is interleaved while the other 2 are not.

What do you think?

I pressed Intel also about this and they insist 4 slots in this particular board will send it to single channel. Clearly the best config is 3 slots with the highest capacity that will work. If we can get 8gb modules to work in this board then 24gb should be about it. They have 4 slots for those that need more ram no matter what performance level they expect. It is kind of a weird choice but that is what apple went with and probably because Intel doesn't have too many options for the W3680 cpu.

My Hex core has just been sitting in HK for the last day and a half. Not to upset as if it arrived here tomorrow it would just sit in the box all weekend since I got work.

I don't even have one on order yet, but the geek in me has been following this thread with eager anticipation.

Please throw up some unboxing pics and geekbench scores/configs when these bad boys hit your hands, people. :D

cheers to all that ordered.

Lantau Island must be a wonderful vacation spot

I only say that because ..... my new Mac Pro seems to want to stay there for a while!!!!! Come on and get on with it already!!! Come see the warm beaches and Mickey Mouse, and the alligators, and the inside of my office!! You'll love it. I promise!

:D

Cool. You had me at Mickey Mouse....

I have it!!!

Finally, it has arrived!!!

I bought 6-core one with Standard config. This morning, at 09:30 Pacific time, it has arrived to my home in LA!!!

Crap. Are you telling me that my 4x 2GB memory sticks are going to be slowing down the machine? If that's the case, I'll seriously consider installing only three of the four sticks to get the speed increase. (And perhaps try it with all four for a bit to see if there's any practical difference.)

Sweet!

Nice setup, dude.

Geekbench that bad boy for us with the config.

Any Logic users who are getting new machines, how many CPUs does Logic show and how does the app run?

Sweet. How about some benchmarks.

The difference is probably measured in milliseconds. Surely having 2GB more physical RAM is going to bet better than 6GB 3 channel. If you run out of physical RAM you start hitting the HD for virtual memory and then you get some real slow downs.

Yeh I doubt anyone will notice any difference in real world application if you use 4 vs 3.

Congrats man!! I'd have to say that your the first one to receive the 6 core here on MacRumors.

Man I'd love to get the 6 core or the 3.2GHz QUAD but I just came to the conclusion that I want something portable with the highest possible amount of power so I went with the 17" i7 macbook pro.

Mine just went to "intl shipment received, Anchorage, AK"! Looks like it got on today's flight! Anyone else have a box on that plane?

This is torture, I hate hong kong and I hate fedex.

LOL same here, but my shipping friend is called TNT. Now my machine has at least seen HK for two *** days, soon I have to go after it as it apparently has forgot who's the master..

If it hasn't moved to Europe by tonight I have to start believe that it will ring on my door on Wednesday as TNT keeps telling me.

I'm happy to see my box has made it from Lantau to Alaska. My delivery estimate is the 24th, but I'm shipping to a business address (no way am I letting my baby sit outside!) so they may factor that in. Even so, I won't expect anything before Monday. Even if the ship out to Memphis (that's the fedex hub, right) tonight, I highly doubt they'll get it out to Northern VA and delivered by 5pm all in one day.

Also, thanks for the words of wisdom on the memory.

Geekbench!!!

Hi dudes,

Here you are Geekbench 64 Bits Results

Note: I've just upgraded RAM to 3x2GB OWC Brand

I've ordered early morning on the 9th August via Expedited service

Best!
