That's pretty standard for any internet commerce I know about...an order that has already been even partially filled can't be cancelled by definition. You're in RMA land.

I ordered by phone and canceled online. Got an immediate confirmation of the cancellation. Nothing in my order had shipped.

You guys are wasting money on the expedited shipping. Normal free shipping usually is 2 to 3 days and in some cases even overnight.
It wasn't ready and if they had released those new imacs without mention of the mac pros, well it wouldn't have been pretty. That earlier September rumor was the closest to correct.
I just called and asked if I had actually saved any time paying extra, and the sales rep told me free shipping takes up to 5 days, and with my expedited shipping it should only be 2. He said the quoted delivery dates don't take into account if you paid for expedited delivery. Either way, $50 on a $3,600 order isn't a huge loss.
I ordered me a 6-core monday morning, and just received an order confirmation e-mail, finally.
For the past days, my order status page gave me an estimated shipping date of August 23rd, with delivery around September 1st. Unfortunately, in the order confirmation e-mail I just got these have slipped to August 26th and September 6th now.
Being a pessimist, I was already half-suspecting not to see my Mac Pro before September. Still, sucks to be right.

Free ship for most early orders said ship Aug 23, arrive Aug 26. Why pay $50 for the same thing? My touch on this order shipped one day and arrived the next. Even if it takes one day longer is it worth $50?
By the way, have any 2010 MP's showed up in a retail store yet?
It depends on where packages are being shipped from. For in stock items that are warehoused across the US, yes, you might get it next day. I've had items shipped from Memphis before when ordering from Apple, and I live in Nashville, so it was next day. But with the Mac Pros they could be coming from China for all I know. The rep told me that if I removed expedited shipping from my order, it could add up to 3 days on my delivery. I really NEED it by the 29th, so it is worth $50 to me.
Just spoke with Apple sales about upping my 3.2 quad to the 3.33 hex. I asked her about shipping, and she kept mentioning it is being assembled as we speak, but it hasn't shipped yet. She said the shipping estimates are VERY conservative and it will likely ship early.
I don't remember the September "rumor" to actually have been a rumor. It was just talking about how the new CPUs aren't in and the author of the rumor speculating that it could be in September. If there was a rumor about it being at the end of summer, that would be the closest to correct, not that September crap.

I ordered the Two 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon with 16GB RAM and just the 1TB drive on Aug 11. Order Status says ship date Aug 25 and delivery by Aug 30.

Powerbook to 12-core MP? Not bad, not bad at all!
I'm upgrading from a core 2 duo MBP to a 12-core 2.93 GHz. I will be doing a lot of 3D animation and video work so all cores will definitely be taken advantage of

i ordered a 2x2.66ghz 8gb's of ram (only for more free slots) with wireless keyboard and everything else stock along with a 16gb free ipod nano (since i already have an ipad) and free printer which both have already been delivered, but the mac pro says 23/26 for me as well and i ordered literally the second they were available haha.

I changed my order from the 12 core 2.66 to 6 core 3.33 and the shipping date changed from 23/26 to 26/31.
