I find it extremely likely that Apple won’t embrace the notch wherever possible.

I've been thinking about whether apple will fully embrace screens with rounded corners across all their products, but since I am no dev I am not sure exactly what kind of tweaks macOS would need so that cursor boundaries, the menu bar, or full screen mode would still work. They can figure it out. And it'd be cool.

Recently sold my Mac Mini on Gazelle. Replaced with a Windows PC to serve the same purpose in my house. It simply took Apple too long. Second Mac I sold this year (2013 15inch Macbook Pro). Second PC I added to my house as well this year.

I am down to my last Mac, 2017 15inch Macbook Pro and its pile of dongles I have at home and work. I really do not like it. They keyboard is painful to use, the dongles, the lack of Mag Safe....etc...etc...etc. Looking for a Windows Laptop to replace it. Apple, for me is now a iOS company. I was a Mac fan since high school (class of 87) where I used Apple IIE's.

It was a good run.

I am in desperate need of a new dev machine. My 2012 iMac bit the dust 2 months ago. Repairs will be at least $1,500 so I will buy new. I really need one by next week. Will just get a Mac Book Pro and add a display if an iMac is not announced.

Apple's not going to update their site twice!

I call the invitations on the 9th with the event on the 16th.

That way their site doesn't have to be updated twice. The Xr needs an update for pre-orders on the 19th.

Tim Cook will be doing a presentation for the EU in Belgium on the 24th so the event won’t take place that week

Yes, 2 reasons that the event will be on 16th
Its 90% sure

Wow.... would love to see a Mac keynote!! With updates to the entire lineup, I guess MBP's aside.

I thought the 4S keynote was late because Steve was dying. Such a subdued keynote.

This event will be Oct 16 or 17 because Tim is speaking at the European Data Protection Conference in Brussels the following week (Oct 23), and he would want to tout all of Apple's latest devices then.

Exactly what I was thinking, he will be there for any announcement so it's before he goes or it's not happening.

It's a bit of a double edged sword. People will cry about it not being refreshed for 5 years or whatever it is and then expect the updated Mini to have 2013 pricing. The new Mini starting at $899...

I will pay double - triple even - what I should for any computer for a Mac Mini or Pro with real power and some upgradability (seriously just let me do RAM) and praise Apple for letting me do so. Actually **** it I don't even need to upgrade RAM as long as I don't have to think about paying for 5K monitors just to look at code.

I'm sure I'll find something to cry about but assuming we get a real computer sans monitor - it won't be price.

Year 2014 was an exciting year with exciting updates, but year 2016 was a huge disappointment. It only introduced a toy-like touch bar as if Apple was asleep during 2015 when there was no October event.

I hope a lot of people share your feelings.

Still hoping for a surprise SE2
you are not serious, are you? SE2 is NOT gonna show up this year and the likelyhood is that it won't show up ever again but I feel it would be nicer to have SE2 in the future but it won't happen this year. This year is closed for iPhones.

I am not sure there is anything to tout about at that event. All of the devices that are relative to data privacy are already out there - iOS 12, macOS Mojave, etc. These rumored products would just be refreshes unrelated to data privacy.

So the pattern would suggest an average of one Mac October keynote every other year.

And I’m ok with that.

I’m putting my money on Wednesday the 17th, pre-orders for everything on Friday the 19th, available in stores the following Friday.

None of these items will require preordering. All items available in store within 7 or 8 days of reveal.
