Week 34, factory 86: was too slow in terms of downloading and opening web pages. I also experienced some dropped calls and reception issues in San Fran, in NYC it was fine though.
The replacement: Week 29, Factory 85; The device was pretty fast and stable with no reception issues, but on the very next day I distinguished two yellow spots on the screen! I was so pissed off, because in any other way it was a perfect phone!
The second replacement: Week 34, Factory 5K: no issues so far except for the jerky animation sometimes, both in games and folders. Restored it from the back up, as well as a new one: it didn't work out. I'm still making up my mind on whether keep it or replace it...

Week 36, and I had to update to 4.1

Reception seems erratic, at least according to the bar. Doesn't matter whether I'm holding the phone or not. I'll swing from full bars to two bars and back throughout the day, without leaving my desk.

Screen looks great.

Edit: regardless of number of reception bars, data/voice connections seem to be fine

So from the last 2 posts it looks like week 37 is when they started to install 4.1? Do you guys think which factory it was made at would also be a factor?

Yep, same here..week 36. Erratic reception, bars go from 5 to 1 while holding it and fluctuate between 4 and 2 when laid down.

All the phones are the same hardware antenna design, so I can't buy that some people don't have the issue and some do. All phones have it,
but I think it depends on where you are and how strong the signal is. I can replicate the 5 bars to zero easily at home, but can't even drop
1 bar at work (from 5) doing the same thing.

Is 4.02 stock gone yet? Has everyone who've bought in the last few days received phones with 4.1 already installed?

I got my replacement last thursday (proximity issues remained with 4.1 after a restore to new phone). My serial is the same as Marcs, 5K034. No problems so far with the replacement. My previous phone was week 30.

Have followed this thread some and haven't seen the 5K part of the serial posted before.

Above I posted about my second replacement, which is 5K034: no problems so far! The funniest part is that I got it a month ago and it's also week 34, you guys got it recently: seems like they produced them galore at 5K on week 34.

Just got mine on Monday Sept. 20th. AT&T store, they had them in stock.

Week 37
OS 4.1

No yellowing screen issue

Reception issue: YES

They GAVE me an Incipio case and put it on for me at the store so I just took it off to test and I could get the bars to go from 5 down to 1 with the death grip and page loading in Safari slowed significantly while in death grip on 3G. Bars would drop only by one with just a finger covering the seam. I don't hold my phone that tight and plan on always using a case, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

So far, no dropped calls.

Sorry forgive my ignorance but I was wondering how you are able to find the date of when your iPhone was manufactured. Thanks!

I will pick up a new iphone 4 in ATT store tomorrow. which week should I choose? the lastest one?

hopefully ATT store will allow me to select. is the serial number on the retail box?
