16gb arrived from China on the 17th of Oct.

Week 36
Had to update to 4.1

No issues and no more reception issues than my 2g to be honest...

My warranty replacement is a week 35 MC318LL device. Had to get it swapped, since the proximity sensor was driving me nucking futs.

Received it with iOS 4.0.2.

Was surprised to see it keep its signal with a death grip that my previous device had, as well as it doing the right thing with the proximity sensor. Guess they are doing something quietly in the background, or is it just the placebo effect?

I'm gonna have to go with:

Reception issues: NO
Proximity sensor: NO
Yellowing screen: NO

Sorry forgive my ignorance but I was wondering how you are able to find the date of when your iPhone was manufactured. Thanks!

First message on thread: the 4th and 5th digits of your iPhone's serial number will determine the week it was manufactured.

Got a launch phone and had proximity sensor issues that persisted through 4.1. Just replaced mine at the apple store today.

Week 37 4.0.2 installed.

Update:

Yellow screen - NO
Signal issue - NO
Proximity Sensor problem - With 4.0.2 installed, worked perfect. Updated to 4.1 and all of a sudden the problem is back, although seemingly improved over the original launch phone. WTF Apple?

My dad has bought me a Week 37 iPhone. I am acctually guessing this because it has 4.1 pre installed.... so im thinking if its Week 37 or not. and it was from apple store in San jose. i hope it doesnt have any problems because its coming to india.... wish me luck. and if people who have week 37 can post there experiences please. thnx

Week 38, from Apple Canada unlocked. I'm not sure how accurate the serial number is for showing the manufactured date though since that would mean my phone was manufactured after it was shipped

October week number...?

Hi, can anyone tell me the week number of iphones manufactured the first week of October.

Wanna make sure i buy one made post the possible secret hardware fix (just in case.... :) )

Any ideas approximately how long it'll be until week 41 iphones, made between 3 - 9 October (cheers, ikaveh) will on the shelves of O2, Orange etc in the UK?

Hi, does your week 39 phone suffer from the infamous reception issue?

I just tested my iphone for 1 day, but so far i didnt notice any problem at all.

Just when i turn on the iphone yesterday, i noticed some kind of yellowish color on the screen, but after a few minutes it was gone, and never saw that again.

Thanks. I'm trying to establish if there's a manufacture week after which the reception issue has gone, that would suggest Apple have done a silent hardware fix.

So far that's a thumbs up for week 39.

Silent fixes aren't possible. Any changes would have to pass through the FCC and that's no secret.

Week 37.

RECEPTION - YES, Drastically suffers from death grip / lower corner touch syndrom.
Proximity problems - No.

Not safe to buy an iPhone 4 right now.

Need more replies, but so far it looks possible that pre-week 38 is bad / post week 38 is good!!!

@rawCpoppa, you're obviously welcome to give your opinion here, but i'm not sure why you replied-it to me, since i didn't ask if it was possible. It's a hypothetical and just a guide as to whether it's yet safe to buy one without chancing the reception problem.

I'm basing said guide upon owner feedback on the phone they own, not upon sweeping statements regarding what the 'incorruptible' telecoms industry tell us is gospel in their honest-to-god working practices.

i have week 39 and while i don't hold it anywhere near that section when i'm talking on the phone, when i'm holding it to surf or go through apps with my left hand, the bars drop 4-5 to 3 and sometimes to 2. it's going to vary for everybody
