I certainly don't care for it to come back. I'm willing to bet you're in the minority. Don't bother counting the amount of people here. This is a tech-enthusiasts site. People here will always be in the minority. Most people don't really care. The typical person gets a new iPhone and notices the OS looks different from the older one and just say, "Oh, it looks a little different, okay". Then go about their lives.

Well I do CERTAINLY care for it to come back. Can I ask why you wouldn't want it back? It's a beautifully designed mobile OS.

When will Apple restore the iOS 6 look?

Time is about progression. Stop living in the pasts, embrace the future. The "new" look won't be new in 3 years and they will change it. iOS 10.

Now, you misread my post. I didn't say I didn't want it back, I said I certainly don't care for it to come back. It looks dated to me and I happen to like iOS7 & 8. Different strokes.

Because Apple is a consumer product company that makes money based on change. Forcing you to update makes them money.

And Apple has been doing this for a long, long time. Even before the iPhone. The original iMac came without a floppy drive. Users were angry.

Apple cut off support and security updates for OS X 10.5.8, despite the fact that there is a small but very much alive community of PowerPC enthusiasts (of which I am part). Apple continues to slowly dismantle protocols and products and services that we use. All in an effort to force us, finally, to upgrade to Intel Macs.

It shouldn't matter what we do with old devices or what systems we want to run on them, but Apple wants to control the experience and it wants to keep everyone together at roughly the same level. Again, forcing people to move forward means more sales for Apple.
That is one way to look at it.
It's also a support issue. While you might say "those people wanting to run iOS6 will support themselves", you are invariably going to have those people either call or take the phone into Apple and that's just a time sink for Apple support. Apple support says "we no longer support iOS6" which is then answered with "Why not? It still runs great on my hardware!"

The design of iOS will keep evolving, but I seriously doubt they'll ever retrace their steps, and I certainly hope they never go back to skeuomorphism.

I'm afraid I think this is the new design, tbf that is where every design is going; flatter and more minimalist. Look at W8 and Android L, they are following and I don't think iOS 6 will ever come back...

For all you people saying it's never going to happen, you do realize that trends go in circles and just cause flat is the new look now doesn't mean eventually glossy won't be back in? I mean, eventually flat is going to look tired and old.

I mean check out cars. Some eras curvy cars are in and then it's boxy. 80's was all about angular cars, 90's was all about bubble cars. 2000 went back to angular.

LOL!!!

Well, that's my version (roughly) of iTunes right now. Don't own a single Intel Mac and the highest I can go on my iBook G4s and PowerBook G4s as well as my iMac G5 and PowerMac G4 (Quicksilver) is Leopard 10.5.8. :D

I get that. However, Apple could also do one of two things. Make money, by demanding money for supporting old versions of iOS.

Or, demand that in order to get service the device be updated (if possible) or deny service if a device is too old.

This is exactly what Apple does right now with Macs. Past five years no genius will touch your Mac. You might get someone nice who gives you a business card for a local Apple authorized repair dealer, but that's it.

Why? It looks better than 7 does.

But I don't understand why you came up with this thread if you're not allowing people to express their opinions on it? There are simply people that just don't care for, don't like, never liked or are happy to move on from iOS6. And that's YOUR opinion about iOS6 looking better than iOS7 does. I disagree but that doesn't make me right or you either.

No I get some like it. I just can't see why. Its absolutely awful. But that is my opinion. Hopefully Apple brings it back one day.
