doesn't the question imply the point of origin? otherwise, the question simply should have been where are you?
Well that would have been an assuption on my part and you know what they say about those.

I just didn't know what to choose and picked UK because I plan to stay. "from" is kind of broad.

The UK should not be classed as Europe for the same reason that South America and North America are not classed as one.
...
Still a part of the European Union however.
The only reason South America and North America are not classed as one is because they are different continents. Or is there another reason I'm missing?
That's what I thought, maybe the island thing is throwing people. :p

Hailing from Wales here.

Hm...yes the UK is part of Europe. In the same way France, Spain, all those countries are.

hey, a fellow welshman! Dwi'n hoffi MacRumors!! thats my whole knowledge of the welsh language...

And UK is part of europe! its part of the EU!! Ireland which is furthur west uses the € euro as their currency!

Highest per capita income, and, back in the 90's (dunno if it's still true today), the highest percentage of children living in poverty. Thus school systems in Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport struggle while school systems only 3 miles away (in the urban ring or the 'burbs) thrive.

There's a movement afoot to get CT a state punk song (and perhaps to displace Yankee Doodle with a punk song that is the state song) -- you can read about it here.

It sounds like the song may suck.

I believe hartford is the 13th poorest city in America.

are you familiar with mianus, its located in greenwhich.:D

*cough* Greenwich *cough* :p

I don't actually live anywhere near there. I don't think I could ever. Too much traffic and a $1,000,000 will buy you a 1,000sq ft house. I live in north central Connecticut. I used to live in Manhattan in NYC until I was 5 but then my parents moved.

We also have a summer place in Charlestown, RI

Born in The Wirral and living in the smoke.

The UK is temporally in Europe until someone with some balls comes along to extricate us.

Wow, only 2 from Africa so far :(.

I was born in the London, UK but I have lived almost all of my life in Cairo, Egypt. I have
both the Egyptian and British nationalities .

If that did actually happen (and I hope it never does), we'd still be in Europe, just not in the EU.

Just like Norway and Switzerland, but with more chavs.

My family descends from Wales and Poland. I'd say they met halfway in Manchester but that would be grossly off kilter.

There is no hard and fast rule for division of continents. Many people respect the Americas to be one continent comprising of both N. and S. America.

The UK is a different landmass from continental Europe, although is often referred to as being one continent.

There is little difference.

A cartographical injustice. We're just of the coast of Europe.
According to a tectonic map of the planet, we're on the Eurasian plate. The North Sea and English Channel are also shallow seas, with the boundary of the European continental shelf some 200 miles to the west of Ireland.

We're part of Europe mate. The rules of Geography all say so :)

BTW, about that North/South America thing. They are different continents. Their positions change in relation to each other thanks to continental drift (unlike the UK and the rest of Europe)

You're not getting this. It is a matter of opinion, there is no rules on continental division. It depends on what Geographer you talk with.

IMO, I want to be considered geographically seperate from the many other countries that consider themselves part of that continent. However, I am fully aware that we are part of the EU, although pleased that we have not accepted the Euro as of yet.

You're overlaying physical fact with political opinion. The landmass the UK sits on is part of the European continental shelf. The only geographers who disagree with that are probably members of UKIP.

And UKIP are all idiots :p

No, it is simply the case that there is no FACT, only opinion on this issue.

I agree with you about UKIP though, and the Nationalists as well.

Well, the consensus of opinion between the entire geological and geographic communities states that continental islands are to be included as part of the continent on whose shelf they sit on. So as the UK sits on a bunch of islands that are part of Europe, it's therefore a European country by current geological definition.

What?! Why is there no option for the United States?

</end arrogant American view> ;)

I'm relatively close to twoodcc.

Nacogdoches, Tx

( Nac(like "nac" in snack) og(the "au" in August) do(dough/doe) ches(chess)Nac-og-do-ches)

The Marx Brothers made their start in Nac.

I just looked up, England, Great Britain, United Kingdom, British Isles on wikipedia. That is why it seemed really confusing when someone says United Kingdom. You could be from England, Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland. If you say Great Britain you can only be from England, Scotland, and Wales.

Well now I know a little bit more about my neighbors.
