One of these things in the poll is not like others...

AKA, I was unaware that the UK was a continent. (I'll give you Australasia)

Well, the consensus of opinion between the entire geological and geographic communities states that continental islands are to be included as part of the continent on whose shelf they sit on. So as the UK sits on a bunch of islands that are part of Europe, it's therefore a European country by current geological definition.

NM. Some people fail to understand the concept of opinion.

The UK should not be classed as Europe for the same reason that South America and North America are not classed as one...
Is Switzerland not in Europe anymore either?

...The UK is temporally in Europe until someone with some balls comes along to extricate us.
You're talking EU not Europe.

No, it is simply the case that there is no FACT, only opinion on this issue...
The UK is simply not a continent FACT

In my opinion 2+2=5
Does it really matter that I'm clearly wrong as it's just my opinion.

Some people fail to understand the concept of opinion.
Some people fail to understand the concept of continents. Australasia consists of Australia - including Tasmania - and New Zealand, Europe includes the British Isles, Sicily, Corsica and Sardinia, together with the Aegean islands, the Balearics and Malta, North America includes Manhattan, Asia includes the islands of Japan and Indonesia. This is not a matter of opinion but convention and common sense.

Here in LA we are on a different tectonic plate than the rest of the USA. Some people in the US would have you believe were on a different planet. ;)

Not to be pedantic, but I have to assume much of the carribean is included in North America as well.

Well I counted Mexico as the limit of North America and from there it counts as South America... but I do not know who it could be for the caribbean...

Luis

Technically, all of Central America (and Carribean islands) is part of the North American continent.

OK then...I was born here, my dad was born in Iraq (Jewish) and my mum was born here, but her parents are from Eastern Europe (what was Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia etc., the borders have changed now though)

Oh, I love Sephardic food! Some new members of our Synagogue are Iranian, and we had dinner at their house the other night, and wow, that was some good stuff!
I always get America confused with Thailand. Which one's the good one again?

Thailand. Speaking of food, theirs is better than ours. Then again, they're even more militaristic than we are!
Hmmm...
Now I'm not so sure which is better.

Oh, born in Chicago, raised as a North Sider, attended school on the "South Side." Quotations used because Hyde Park, where I've spent the majority of my childhood, isn't exactly the ghetto that's become synonymous with the South Side. Just ivy covered university buildings, preppy business students, and incredibly cool/creepy/combination-of-cool-and-creepy philosophy professors.

I'm now in the second suburb out from the city and live a few blocks from the campus of another University, which means I still get to be artsy fartsy.

But it is many times counted as south america. Officially north america ends in mexico and south america starts in panama. So you can choose either way if you are in central america, ideally central america is a region on its own... but we don't have that option.:)

¡Pura Vida! ;) Headed your way for about 4 days in June.

Its about 40 miles southwest of me. Im near Hartford, Shelton is right next to New Haven.
He'll probably take in a Yankees game and a Mets game. He's still a STL fan, so don't contaminate him. :p I think STL has a 3 game series with the Mets the end of June. I know this is OT, so I'll stop. Just couldn't resist since NYY are just about as pitiful as STL, this year.

Try following the discussion. Geographers have been divided on this issue for quite some time.

If I remember correctly its North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia.
