Just wondering if anyone ordered ram from http://www.transintl.com and got a tracking number for shipping. I'm from overseas and had ordered my RAM through them via overseas method on Jan 26th and my credit card was charged for the order on that date. I emailed them last night on the status and they said "it is in process"...whatever that means.

Unless you ordered the 4GB modules, you're good to go. They are waiting for the 4GB chips. Transintl usually doesn't charge your credit card before they are ready to ship and getting a tracking no. is also a good sign. But then again, if you ordered the 4GB they might have charged your CC prematurely.

Thanks for the feedback. I had ordered the 8GB Kit (4 x2GB) 800MHz ECC FB-DIMM and 2GBKit (2 x1GB) 800MHz ECC FB-DIMM. So it should be ok.

I was inspired after reading this thread to buy some RAM now (rather than wait for my 8800 MP to get here). I bought from OWC..seemed pretty forward and RAM is supposed to ship today.

So now I have logic, fusion, 500 GB WD SATA, and soon 8 more GB of RAM to stare at...with no mac!!!

The waiting is harder than I thought...

Has anyone ordered from TransIntl.com for memory? Just curious if it was a positive experience and any other comments are appreciated.

I ordered memory from them a couple of weeks ago. (2x2GB, 800MHz). The memory worked fine and ran at the same temp as the stock apple memory (2x1GB) FBDIMMS.

However :-( One of the sticks started throwing ECC errors in the logs and I had one crash over a 1 week period of time. I moved the DIMMS around and I found the problematic FB-DIMM. I sent the whole set back to TransIntl and I should have the replacements soon.

At this time, I'm holding judgement on them (I usually order through crucial). I'll keep you informed.

Just received a notice for the 4x2GB from OWC I ordered and I have to pay an additional $60 for tax. I guess it's fair since OWC (in California) didn't tax my order and the Canadian government likes money even more than I do.

FWIW I'm convinced you have to more than double your RAM to even notice a difference in performance.

Always buy more than you think you need. I for one use Crucial.

A very broad and general statement that leaves a lot of loose ends. If you have 16GB of ram, but the computer never calls for more than 2GB of memory, based upon your applications and how you are using the computer, then how much difference do you notice by having the other 14GB in your computer?

I was thinking at the other end of the spectrum.

As in going from 1GB Ram to 1.5 or 2.

Avoid OWC / MacSales.com

Let me offer a contrarian view here.

My experience with OWC (MacSales.com) has been horrible.

I placed an order on Jan 26th for 4Gb of NetList RAM. The order confirmation told me it would ship on or before Feb 4th. Not a word since then.

I sent them an email a week ago for an update. No response.

I have tried their chat system several times during the business day this week, never anyone available.

I called today, and waited 32 minutes on hold before anyone picked up. When they did, the first gave me wrong information. Then they got a manager involved, and finally told me that my order -- now 4 days past the ship date - would need to wait another 5 days before it ships. That's 5 business days, which gets us to Friday the 15th. Thanks to the weekend, that gets us to January 18th if I want to pay to upgrade to "overnight" shipping.

Broken promises on the ship date. Poor (or non-existent) customer service. No offer for a free upgrade on shipping or alternate product.

That all adds up to a very bad opinion of OWC.

Chameleon,

I hope your experience is unique - I literally just ordered 4x2GB RAM from OWC for my new MacPro. Yes, yes, I know 8x2GB will be about 10% faster (according to Barefeats), but I figure I can update in a few months with more memory (faster & cheaper), and 2 new Samsung ~664 GB HD's for some RAID-0 action. That way, I get a whiz-bang system now, and can noticeably increase its speed in a few months.

Sorry your experience was so poor.

I've talked to a lot of people who have said that DMS has the best customer service. That's who I'll buy from unless I find someone who wants to sell me their stock 2x1GB

Which website sells ram and can buy your old ram?

Also how can I figure out what type of ram I have as in did I get this OWC ram or that one? (Since they offer two types).

For some reason, I don't trust them. But I love the prices. Did you know that if one gig's worth of FB-DIMMs cost the same as one gig's worth of iMac memory, we'd be able to get 32GB for around $840? We hear about this underpricing of all the other RAM types, why no love for us?!

I put in the order this morning with MemoryAmerica - this afternoon, I get the shipped message. Let's see how the rest of the experience goes.

Lemme counteract the above.

I ordered 8 GB (4X2GB) RAM from OWC @ 9:34 AM PST today. I just got shipping notification @ 6:34 PM today that my order had just shipped out via UPS. Oh yeah, they sent me a UPS tracking number too! Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've had one hell of a great experience buying memory from these guys.

Hey, I'm Just sayin...

I bought 4GB from OWC on Wednesday morning. It shipped Wednesday afternoon and arrived yesterday. Installed it last night and works perfectly so far.

I ordered 4X2GB around Jan. 25th and due to backorder I had to wait a week before it was processed but once it did, it was sent out and took 4-5 days to get to Canada via USPS Int.

For those in the uk who ordered from OWC - do any of the shipping options have any chance of skipping the old VAT plus extortionate handling charges that some (most) international shippers impose?

I originally ordered the Netlist RAM too. However, I did receive an email from OWC saying that the Netlist would be delayed due to manufacturing problems. So, after reading all of the forum posts I came to soon realize that the Qualified RAM would be just fine. And, for another $200, I went to 16GB. They are here already waiting to be used. So, I don't think its really OWC with a problems so to speak but the manufacturing issues they've had with Netlist RAM. Just FYI.

Just Bought Two Sets From Other World Computing

16GB of Eight 2GB Sticks $800 for my son's 2.8GHz MP.
32GB of Eight 4GB Sticks $2900 for my 3.2GHz MP.

Did it on the phone and he gave us $50 off each order. They're listed $50 more for each set on the website. They use 7 fin heat sinks which should be cooler and keep the fans rolling slower. And there's a link from BareFeats.com that helps them. I trust their recommendation to use OWC and like to help them by using this link at the bottom of this page.

My 3.2GHz Octo MP is dead silent so far. I'm gonna buy a 2.8 base model when they go refurb in March or April. These Dual Harpertown Mac Pros are the world's greatest personal computer EVER. :)

Anyone know who is publishing a RAM Disk program that lets you create RAM discs bigger than 2GB?
