I just purchased 16GB (8x2GB) of memory from OWC. I was quoted a ship by date of January 25th. Have people been receiving them on time?

I also did a fair amount of research on proper hard drive replacement from people on this forum and various web reviews. I ended up getting (2) 1TB Seagate 7200.11 Barracuda hard drives from Fry's here in town (as I was too impatient to order online). Cost was reasonable considering.

Good choice on getting the 7200.11 1TB, big cache, higher areal density.
(I'm getting 4 of those myself) However, I would've been patient and
bought online and save quite a few bucks. Fry's tend to be quite pricy.
But then again, you pay for instant gratification - and you get retail box
version (not that it matters!)

I ordered 2x2GB modules from OWC on Tuesday the 15th. They finally shipped it out yesterday (Mon 21st). Well past the 3-day quoted shipping time, but I can afford to wait since my 8800GT equipped Mac Pro is still quoted for Feb 13th.

Everyone with OWC orders.... seems like they got a shipment in on Monday so check your order status... dunno.

Just got my Mac Pro and RAM (OWC) on the same day :)

So now I have 6 gigs in here, and this thing is 99.9% SILENT...you can maybe hear a slight rustling of air here and there, but otherwise, nothing :)

I got my 4x2GB modules from OWC today and installed them to my 2008 Pm. Works very good so far =) Its as silent as before.

This is really frustrating...

I ordered everything on the 15th like so many but i've been reading about people getting there stuff quicker than me. It didn't ship until the 18th and showed that it was making a 40 minute drive from one pickup to the first way point in socal until this morning when its magically appeared in NJ only hop skip and a jump away from where I'm having it shipped; meaning I should have it here tomorrow. Awesome. However not having the RAM that will really make it pur kinda puts a damper on things. I can't imagine waiting for that goofy graphics card everyone is making a fuss over, which I might buy eventually but for now is so not worth it.

4x2 GB from OWC ordered on January 10. Still says web order but I did receive an email saying they would ship on the 26th. We'll see...Mac doesn't arrive until Feb 20th anyway....wait...wait...wait...wait

Can you please install the istat pro widget and let us know what the temps are on those OWC modules and the temps on your apple modules? There was a big problem with the last FB Dimms not having the temp sensors on them and i was wondering if the OWC ram had them.

Crucial has 2x1GB available now. Probably not long until they have more types.

$299.99 for 2 X 1GB? At that pricing they might have them for quite a while. OWC pricing for 2 X 1GB is $129.99. 4 X 1GB for $249.99.

Funny thing is it is actually running cheaper than Kingston. From everything I've read, OWC has cheaper memory (in general) than the more reliable manufacturers, but it does have a failure rate higher and their customer service is pretty poor based on reviews I have seen. I think I'll wait until the prices settle before I purchase any ram for my Mac Pro. By then I should have the GForce in :)

Speaking of which, I checked out Avant memory (what OWC sells). Basically, I can't find anything on it or the company. The numbering is in line with their 667MHz line for a 800MHz - but their site isn't up-to-date. Not surprising...given half the images don't load there. Same parent company as All Components, AMS, US Technology, and K-Byte. I don't know anything on those companies, though I've seen K-Byte's name before.

Please Post...

Can you post some of your research I'm curious to see the failure ratings. Does that mean they wear out faster or they're is higher rate of error in the manufacturing process?

All I did was read through these:

http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Other_World_Computing_10#reviews

It's mostly an issue with bad support. Any memory can have failures...but 100% of the good companies will replace it immediately with no hassle. Looks like OWC likes causing problems if you have problems with their product. Admittedly dissatisfied customers complain more, but there are too many bad complaints for it just to be a fluke.

Taking into factor...

I like to take into factor the fact that they have the best price are quite popular and therefore do some higher volume for there niche market. When you do hi volume you tend to break an egg or too now and then.

in queue

my ship date was the 18th.

they still havent shipped.

I've ordered a week ago and it still says
"Your order has been received and is in queue. Subject to the availability of item(s) on this order, order will be invoiced and sent for delivery."

Same.

Damn, this is frustrating. I bought the computer on Jan. 8th--that hasn't even shipped. And, to top it off, now the RAM is taking forever.

I'm learning that I'm not necessarily the most patient person...;)

Anyone testing their new memory?

For those that have installed the new memory, have you tried to run any memory testing tools to verify that it is good?

When I got my 2.7Ghz PowerMac back when, I purchased some third party memory. The system ran fine. However, when I ran the memtest tool in single user mode over night, it found a bunch of errors on one of the sticks. (and from there, i had a number of back-and-forth support issues with the vendor... postage can get really expensive you know!)

You can get the latest memtest tool from here.

Let us know if you ran into any issues.

Thanks all!

I totally know what you mean. I overnighted my memory cause i had to have them right away. After seeing the later shipment dates on OWC, i decided to use memoryamerica.com. i called first of course to see if they had it in stock and everything came out perfect.

i read OWC's reviews before on resellerratings.com but it was full of varied opinions. although they seem to be a new company i would recommend memoryamerica since my recent order was good.
