if you're looking for the 2gb kit, i saw memoryamerica's site for cheaper. i think they have it for $125.

i overnighted a 16gb kit from them and it worked out great for me. i've purchased from OWC before and loved their service, but i don't like waiting

Ordered the 4gb kit (2x2GB) from transintl.com ($189 US), and got it Thursday (ordered the Friday before, but they didn't have it until late tuesday). Haven't using anything heavy so far, but so far it's working fine for me. Almost went ahead and got the OWC RAM, but I went "ouch" on the price...

My order at OWC of a 4 x 4GB memory kit was just shipped:
OWC 16GB Mac Pro 800MHz Kit 4GB x 4 FB,
Matched Modules 4.0GB per for Mac Pro Quad Xeon/8-Core Qualified with Apple Qualified Heat-Spreader. LifeTime Advance Replacement Warranty;
$ 1450,-, including insurance & shipping by UPS.

Since I'm on the waiting block, I thought I ask this stupid question now.

If I order 4 x 2GB RAM from say OWC, can they go together with the stock 2 x 1GB giving me 10GB total?

I ordered my RAM on tuesday night from OWC and it still says being processed. RAMJET has the RAM for a little more than the qualified stuff I'm tempted to cancel and get it from them. Does anyone have any experience with them? I need to start working with this computer shortly after it arrives next week and more RAM would help the install process I'm sure.

How did you get it for $1,450? What I can see, it's either 1,649.99 for the
NList or 1,399.99 for the normal stuff.:rolleyes:

I just ordered 6gb from OWC, so hopefully it will beat my Mac... the MacPro is scheduled to ship on Feb 14th.

OWC worked out to be ~$62/GB... which isn't cheap, but not expensive... I feel confident that it will preform every bit as good as Apple ram.

Ordered today from DMS; should be in stock and ship within 3 days. They picked up the phone on first ring, were very pleasant. Good guarantees, etc.

Why did you chose DMS over OWC?
4 x 4 GB OWC NetList is 1,649.99, at DMS 1,700.00
What's the difference?

Actually, I ordered a total of 6-2 GB DIMMS for just about the same price as OWC qualified DIMMS - not netlist. If you have read many posts here about qualified vs netlist, most members agree qualified is just fine.

I had originally ordered from OWC, and then looked them up on ResellerRatings (who I have found to be a very good resource) after another forum member mentioned it. OWC ratings are just ok, but many negative responses as well. Compare them to Crucial, for example, who rates very high.

I had called OWC, and sat on hold forever, eventually hanging up. Canceled order via email, which they handled well. I looked at the "Guides" section of MacRumours about buying memory, and DMS is noted as very good to buy from. I checked them on RRatings, and although not a ton of reviews, the reviews were good. I called them to make sure their guarantees were solid, and they picked up right away and answered all of my questions.

Sometimes I will pay a bit more for peace of mind, and a company I feel is there to serve me. Customer service is everything when you have a problem.

Got a couple questions:

1. For anyone that has already received OWC ram: how is their temperature running compared to the Apple-style heatsync ram? And can you see anything on any chips indicating who's production line the chips are coming off of?

2. Anyone heard from Crucial as to when they expect to have their DIMMs?

Thanks!

Wish I had the MP to put the RAM into! Supposed to arrive tomorrow, but the FedEX tracking info doesn't look good at this point.

Anyway, the RAM I got (4x2GB certified) from OWC is made by Avant and is model #AVF7256B61E5800F5

Mixing and Matching

So as I've said in other threads I ordered 2x2gb from owc on tuesday night (after macworld keynote) and got in a very long line. Over the weekend I ordered 2x2gb from Ramjet for 269. Figured they're not the cheapest so they'll have a better supply and in this case thats ok. My original plan was to cancel the other order as soon as I got a shipment notice from one of them. However I might keep both. Can anyone forsee a problem mixing and matching apple, OWC, and RAM jet memory?

so you guys are getting your OWC ram? i asked customer service on an ETA for my order, and they had no idea when the ram was going to be in stock or shipping.

I bought from transintl. About $380 for 4 x 2GB sticks of 800 MHz FB-DIMMS. Cheapest price I've found, and just got an email that they shipped. I got the standard shipping, $8, and it is scheduled to be here Jan. 25th.

I just purchased 16GB (8x2GB) of memory from OWC. I was quoted a ship by date of January 25th. Have people been receiving them on time?

I also did a fair amount of research on proper hard drive replacement from people on this forum and various web reviews. I ended up getting (2) 1TB Seagate 7200.11 Barracuda hard drives from Fry's here in town (as I was too impatient to order online). Cost was reasonable considering.
