Sure, I was a tad bit disappointed that there was no news on Friday, but I was not really expecting it given I didn't really believe a Friday news release.

For me, my hopes are centered around the actual software being available, at that date being the 15th. If that day comes and goes, then I will be disappointed. With that said, I will gladly wait for a better, faster, more secure, more bug free release. The "pundits" like Thurott are already bashing Tiger as buggy, and Apple needs to remember that the tech press is heavily anti-apple, despite their praise for the iPod. They cannot misstep.

So for me to have an easy transition to Tiger, and for Apple to succeed, I hope Tiger is ready and Apple is not being too hasty.

I simply cannot wait for Tiger. I am really looking forward to it.

The mag was suposed to come out on Thursday / Friday, but the website posted a news story that they've held it back till Tuesday (tomorrow) for 'the biggest apple announcement / launch so far this year'

Macuser is basically the 'official' magazine for apple, never really dabbling in the rumour world. so it's not out of the question to give them the world exclusive 'announcment'.... we'll see.

STOP PRESS - The next issue of MacUser 10:09AM
Exciting times are ahead. Big things are about to happen in the world of computing, and MacUser wants to be the first to bring you the news.

So, to make sure you get the full low-down on the biggest product launch of the year so far, we'll be holding back publication of our next issue - originally due out on 1 April - by four days.

So don't forget to check in your newsagent on Tuesday 5 April - or watch for your subscriber copy drop through your door. We're sure you'll agree it will have been worth the wait!

Unless, given the date it was posted this was an april fools too? though the online editor deny's this.

Well - it will tie in with the upgrades made to hardware scheduled to be made in mid-April...

Say...

If the NAB is due to take place on the 15th, then does that mean not only will there be an iMac/eMac update (and YES - I'll DEFINITELY be getting the new G5 iMac which will hopefully be a 2GHz CPU accompanied by a 23" HD monitor powered by a 128MB GPU!!! :D ), but also a PowerMac speedbump as well...?

Apple couldn't release a new OS without hardware (and the iMac & eMac are long overdue - as is the iBook range, but that's ANOTHER story...), so it would logically show off the new processors that could power X.4.

And the NAB, being a PROFESSIONAL trade show, would lap up the new PowerMacs. Also, Apple will need to have a definite boundary between the PowerMac range and the Consumer range. A 2GHz G5 iMac with a 128MB graphics card sits in the middle of the Professional range of systems, and therefore draw business AWAY from those models.

THAT'S why I think that Apple's NEW PowerMacs will differentiate themselves from the Consumer Macs by going DUAL-PROCESSOR across its Professional lineup - and may even dabble with a QUAD on its high-end machine, just to spice things up a bit...

Anyway - even IF OSX.4 is due to be released on the 17th, it can still be shown effectively onstage at the NAB 2 days EARLIER. I fully expect the iMac rev. B to have a 3-5 week delivery time, so what's 2 days longer if we're going to get a decent OS, in the grand scheme of things? It'll also ensure that we'll get Tiger pre-loaded on all new systems.

MacUser - It was just Adobe CS 2 , nothing too amazing, but i have 15th swinging around some info I have.

rumors had placed it's announcement on April 1.

if ("it is" or "it has") then subst("it's") else print("its") // Is that so hard?

Life is too short to be a pedant about typos on a discussion board.

With www.MacUser.co.uk in mind I'm still optimistic about some MAJOR announcement tomorow (tuesday). I'm expecting both Software (i.e. Tiger) and Hardware (basically all Macs except Mac mini and iMac)...

I realise this means that I can easily be VERY dissapointed...

I'm off around the world now so I'm going to have to wait whatever now until September. I'm hoping Tiger will be released before the 25th of April because I'll be in the US until then and I'll be able to pop into an Apple Store and check it out.

When to order new PB w/ Tiger ?

I may have seen a thread on this elsewhere, but can't recall. I've been holding off buying another 12"PB until Tiger is released. When is the earliest I should place my order? If I order it after announcement, but before the official release date, will it ship w/ 10.4 or 10.3?

Also, are any 12" upgrades rumored to be in the works? Would that affect when I should place the order?

Thanx for the advice.

How could you think the iMac isn't getting an update with next round of releases?

Just a gut feeling...

Edit: And probably wrong when conferring with the Buyer's Guide ;)

Edit2: Maybe I should correct my prediction to all Macs, except Mac mini, PowerBooks and xServers, but then I would just follow the Buyer's Guide... and where's the fun in that... :p

Edit3: I still expect something BIG... :D

If you buy after the Tiger announcement it should at least ship with a copy of Tiger. I can't quite remember what happened last time, but I don't think you'd have to pay for the upgrade.

The 12" was updated in February, so unlikely anytime before the summer. Rumored updates to iBooks soon to bring them near to PB in processor speed at least - but we all know there's more to a PB than just a processor.

When did the G5 iMac come out - it's longer than the usual 6 month upgrade cycle isn't it? I'm still impressed with the current iMacs, but of course a nice 2Ghz processor couldn't go amiss...

[EDIT] Gotta love that buyer's guide!

I'd think you're going to be in luck - providing they haven't sold out, which given the hype, is a definite possibility. If there are copies at least you'll get the super-low US price!

12" PB (Rev. Bs back then) didn't start shipping with Panther preinstalled until mid December 2003 (Panther was released on Oct 24, 2003). I don't know if they just threw in Panther discs before. If you want your PB to come with Tiger preinstalled, you'll probably have to wait about 6 weeks after the official launch.

Oooer. It's highly probable that there's a press embargo on all this stuff till then. MacUser is my favourite UK Mac mag, by far.

I have a gut feeling/hazy memory that they threw in the discs, but yes I think you are right about the preinstalled versions taking about 6 weeks. I'm sure Apple wouldn't make you pay to upgrade a product to the current version. Bit like the Mac minis and iLife '05.

I've been working nights so off to bed - hopefully Tiger will be on the scene by the time I wake up...

I care a lot less about the "announcement" (since we ALREADY know the features) than I do about when I'll have it in my hands :)

Yes, we have already seen all the demos now get it out on the market ;)
