How are the stock gen 5 buttons?

Yes, Gen 4 have a lining on the backs. Gen 5 are metal to metal.

Yes, they have no backing at all.
Going to dig out my frosted now and put in the Gen 4 buttons. I also found a set of Gen 4 black in my old box of cases 😀

Nomad Sport coastal rock on nat ti. Has to be one of my favorite case colors ever. This case is not getting sidelined any time soon.

I'm not sure. The gen 4 buttons I have here are the Matte ones that have a flat face to them. I'm not sure about the ones that have the milled out face or what ever you would call it. Also not sure about the 15 Pro as I have the max.Will these buttons work with the gen 5 frosted 15 pro NON max?

Not surprised as frosted backs are generally slick. Clear backs will have some bite if your fingers are not dry as a bone.
That being said, the PR Gen5 frosted is intriguing…

i too loved my frosted until i removed it and the alignment magnet came loose and it snapped in half while i tried to put it back in place. had to ship to pr and am waiting for replacement. probably will try to sell.More case porn lol ...really loving this case, did not expect to like it this much

After putting the Gen 4 red buttons back in the frosted and installing my phone they really don't stick up that much more than the Gen 5, maybe a C-Hair 😉
Tried to get some pictures but I'm only working with an iPad over here for pictures today 🙁
Don't know if I'm really feeling these red buttons or not, might go back to all black or the ultra orange.
