Retina display! I thought iPad and iPod touch's displays were bright, until I saw the iPhone 4's retina display. It's so bright and high-res. Now iPod touch's display looks crappy to me.

I know it's similar to liamkp's thread, but I'm not trying to leech any posts. I just wanted to take a poll to see where the consensus is at. I know the poll isn't very concise, but our options aren't concise.

My vote: 2 cameras, A4, retina, iPad design, gyroscope, $199/$299/$399, base model 3G, base model 16 GB, Better battery life, 802.11n Wi-Fi

EDIT: Looking at the poll now, I see that I forgot to add a "camera flash" option. Just comment if you think this will be included.

How do you expect them to meet the pricing after adding all those features ? Cost have gone up for Apple (manufacturing, shipping, etc.) so where are all the cost savings that are going to allow Apple to add all these changes to the Touch ? Most of them are not going to happen (i.e. no rear camera) and probably no retina display.

Nope. I dont think so, at least. Isnt the glass fairly thick?

Maaaan who cares (sorry I meant I don't realy care) if it is thick it gives it very very slim clear look and it looks brighter the whole devices and I think glass is a good insulator so it won't warm so much in your hands but i maybe wrong :]]]

I thought the 3GS camera was pretty cheap. The VGA camera is in since its one dollar. And how exactly have all of these costs gone up for Apple?

Read my component price costs in "the next ipod touch", snd you'll see for yourself. and thats also exactly why 199 is base 3rd gen. and 299+ is 4th gen

What GregR said is exactly what I think.

As a side note, I didn't really intend this poll as a discussion... It was meant to be a poll with an occasional bump– an extension of liamkp's thread. The discussion is all at that thread, which is where, as GregR said, you can see the component prices.

Complementing two macrumors members in one shot... nice work. and thank you

You have to expect your poll thread to turn into a discussion. If there is a poll, people will vote. if people will vote, people will have ideas. If people will have ideas, people will voice them in this thread. If people voice the ideas, people will disagree. If people disagree, a discussion is born. Or the more simpler way: people will have the urge to discuss what they voted.

Too late for that.:p

ALso, do you have a link or the page number? I don't feel like looking through 51 pages...

People probably would have discussed things anyway, even if you did say this was an extension of my thread so we could have another poll. But, its a different subject from my thread... to an extent.

Exactly, every thread is a little bit different, so the discussion should be different. anyway, back on track, the majority votes this is the configuration:

2 cameras
A4 processor
retina display
iPhone 4 design
Integrated mic
gyroscope
199 299 399 pricing
base model 3rd gen
base model 16gb
better battery life
orientation lock
802.11n Wi-Fi

Sounds like a dream ipod touch to me!!!

Well, I see no point for giving to option for orientation lock in the poll (It's basically a given). I mean, even if we don't get a physical button for it like the iPad, it's still in the software, like the iPhone 4.

When i voted, i said "duh, yeah, it's called iOS 4.0!"
Was the poll made before os 4 came out?

YESSS a regular now!!!! (100th post!)

I'm still a little skeptical about them including all this new stuff and being able to keep it a the same price points. A price increase would definitely be a turn off to a lot of people, and they'd lose sales, yet they need to add enough to entice new sales. Seems like a tight line to walk. And they might have to choose lower profit per unit in exchange for more units moved out the door.

I'm pretty sure I could be happy with that.

If you think logically that's what all the companies do... Still i think the prices for itouch 4 will be higher than expected

Sure hope the price points stay put. If they go up, I'm one of those lost customers. I'll probably be scrounging the refurb store for 3rd gens at that point.

This is exactly what i will do. But hopefully i wont have to.

They have to keep them at the same cost as now. Well, it would be highly sensible to.

I don't remember where the chart of prices was. I think GregR found it (could be wrong on that though). Based on the prices, would a redesign including glass and second camera even be possible while still maintaining their prices. The odds of a 128 GB are less than 5% at this point, but can other ideas be salvaged? :(

THe front facing camera at least is interesting, but a back camera would draw a much bigger crowd. I can't see myself using the facetime camera very much at all.

I would think so... The front cameras $1 so we can almost guarantee that. The back camera is like $10 right? And thats the 5MP. So a 3.2MP which is probably what we will get, is probably like $8... Thats not that much, and again i dont think there will be the iPhone 4 glass.

Under $10? Aside from room issues (and others), you would think this would have been put in sooner. I'm pretty sure most people would be willing to pay $10 for a good camera.

I think thats what it said on GregR's component list.
