Note 8 has a color profile.. Everyone talk about note 8 display's over saturate, punch, vibrant, unrealistic colors.. But there is a option for color profiles.. I'm also don't like "Adaptive display" mode oversaturate colors, but I'm using "Basic" mode, and it's present very very accurate, realistic color reproduction.. Please compare Note 8 "Basic" mode with iPhone x display for color correctness....

That only helps slightly. Samsung calibrate their display to be over saturated. No matter what mode your in, they always will over saturate some colors like red. Sure it may be more muted in basic mode, but it’s still there. Samsung is smart, they know a lot of people love the screen that way. I for one do not. I have owned several Samsung Notes, and they all are the same. It’s too warm and over blown colors for my taste. Just my taste though. Sharpness though is something completely different, and I don’t think you can pick a winner here. They both look amazing.

It's not fact, but sometimes popular opinion can be so great that it just becomes the way it is. In my opinion, the air in earth's atmosphere is better for you than the atmosphere on a planet in a galaxy a hundred million light years away. Fact or opinion? It's an opinion of course. And most would agree. Of course there may be a few smart ass scientists who will try to labour the point that this might not necessarily be the case, like what you are doing with the iphone display, but most would agree that the earth's atmosphere is better for you, without getting all scientific about it.

You would choose the atmosphere you breathe based on opinion and not on scientific fact?

You should never be an astronaut.

And most agree the Note 8 is the better screen.

Put it this way, if you had the ultimate smackdown between the iphone x and the Note 8, the categories being display, battery life, software speed and peformance, ergonomics in the hand, premium look and feel, features and raw specs, even if the iPhone X wins it 6-1, the 1 category going to the Note 8 would be the display.

No, in my opinion, the screen category goes to iPhone X. It looks better to my eyes. I'm not claiming it's objectively better, just that I think it's better. Does it bother you that not everyone thinks Note has a better screen? It doesn't bother me that you think it does.

Just my first impressions on the limited time I spent with both. The Note 8 display sucked me right into the content and just blew me away as to how good it looks with that Edge display. Just no contest in comparison to my 7 Plus. The iPhone X seemed like a slightly better version of my 7 screen. Nothing game changing. I think it's because the iPhone X is just so small compared to the Note 8. Once the 6.5 iPhone comes out next year it would be a better comparison.

If the X Plus gets ProMotion that would make the X screen superior for me as almost all devices on the market including the X seem laggy compared to my iPad.

The Galaxy S8/S8+/Note 8 all have better displays than the iPhone X. Side by side the X still looks dimmer and less vibrant, anyone who says differently is a fan-boy/sheep.
You say this so matter of fact, which it clearly is not. You like the "vibrant" as you call it colors of the Samsung phones, but others of us don't like what we call over saturated colors.

....and so why hasn’t this been moderated for personal insults?

Which one has better-looking screen? iPhone X or Note 8?

My current phones are the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 6s Plus. I find myself using the 6s Plus more often because of work, but whenever I'm watching videos, I always go back to the Note 8. (especially 1440p YouTube videos or 4k videos that I shot myself)

I want to get the iPhone X because of the Samsung AMOLED screen.

Thanks!
Hands Down the Note 8 for 3 Reasons.

#1. Samsung is an OLED Pioneer they use the Best OLED Panels for themselves.
#2. Note 8 is 6.4" Useable Display area Vs the iPhone X Notch shrinks the 5.8" X down to 5.0 of useable Display area.
#3. Samsung is Using Gorilla Glass 5, test after test have shown it is far more scatch and shatter resistant than the iPhone X copycat Glass.

No it doesn't bother me in the least. Couldn't care less. You should get your eyes checked.

Just for those "too saturated" complainers, in Galaxy Adaptive mode, use the custom option, reduce the red and green sliders all the way to left (minimal) and blue all the way to right. Also set color tone to "cool". This makes color more natural and yet keep the useful adaptive mode.

That seems like a lot of work to get to “natural” colors.

Thanksgiving was fun. Family (both sides) of Samsung users all loved the iPhone X display. Wasn't love at first sight as I have True Tone enabled but feelings dramatically changed after some use and adjustment. One awkward moment was someone complaining how photos don't look nearly as good on her brand new Note when compared to the X—in particular colors don't look right at all and despised the idea of switching "modes." (An aside, everyone overwhelmingly preferred the photos taken with the X—and this is before I had the chance to edit them.)

For my preferences, I cannot stand the curved display on the Samsung phones. I see dark banding running the entire length of the edges and I really dislike how the UI and media context wrap around the edges.

The android folks always told me to look to Displaymate for a true unbiased evaluation. Displaymate said that the X is the best screen ever put in a mobile device. End of discussion really. I am surprised it's gone on this long.

These discussions are pointless as it's all preference. Displaymate, which has been referred to on both sides of the argument as the decision maker here, said the X has the best screen ever put in a mobile device. Everything else is just opinion.

You seem to be hung up on displaymates evaluation. You should know then that Displaymate considers Samsung OLED displays as best in the world. The X got the nod this year because Displaymate considers the X's display as the best calibrated precision OLED display. In the end, it still comes down to preference regardless of what Displaymate says. The S8 was given an A+ rating. And we know Displaymate doesn't go around handing out A+ grades very often. End of discussion? Hardly.

If Displaymates evaluation is so important, did you consider a Samsung Display last year when Samsung won best display?

I wasn’t ever hung up on the Displaymate evaluation until all I heard for years was that they were the end all be all when it comes to evaluations of mobile displays. Once I heard the X will have an OLED display, I was interested to see how it stacked up against competition that had been using OLED displays for years. With the evaluation complete, we now see that Apple has designed and calibrated the best mobile display ever made. What’s even more impressive is that they were even able to one up Samsung at their own game. Did Samsung manufacture it? Sure, but let’s not give Foxconn credit for the iPhone either. Did I consider buying a Samsung phone last year you mean? No. I prefer iOS over Android due to the better performance, security, privacy, apps, and ecosystem. I figured that once Apple brought the technology in, it would be the best. And it is.

It’s very interesting to see people say the note 8 screen is far superior, glad that’s just an opinion.

It’s not an Opinion the Display is superior. Period.

#1.Its Larger you get more for your money
#2. Rich vibrant colors that can be adjusted to you linking.
#3. 1440p QHD Resolution which apps are optimized for unlike the iPhone X.

I really did not want to attract a reply such as yours, but here we are.

1. Having a larger phone for the same or around the price as a smaller phone doesn’t mean it’s superior. It just means it’s larger, and some people prefer larger phones. It’s a preference.

2. In Samsung galaxy line phones, rich vibrant colors especially in pictures, is not true to how it looks in the real world because the colors are overly saturated. It isn’t natural. Some people like the look though no doubt and there is nothing wrong with liking the way it looks at all. This would be very bad for editing because the colors aren’t true to begin with. If you get a professional print after editing a photo on a galaxy phone, you’re going to have a wtf moment because it’s going to look completely different on the print. So saying that it’s better or superior because Samsung intentionally deepens colors on their phones is nothing more than an opinion.

3. Yes the resolution is indeed “superior” because it is a higher resolution, however that doesn’t translate into a better looking display.
Fact is it doesn’t, because the iPhone X has been rated the best phone display ever tested. By industry professionals.

Basically you are stating what draws people to Samsung phones. They say and think things such as “oh look how big the screen is, look how bright and colorful it is, look how high the resolution is, this is way better than the iPhone or Apple phones” But in reality those are their preferences and opinions.

You seem to have trouble telling the difference between facts and opinions, and you’re not alone. It happens quite often, people tend to be bias towards things they prefer and against the things they do not.

How does a bigger screen make it better? I have heard this now at least 5 times in this thread. Bigger is only better if you prefer bigger. I don’t want a larger phone. I actually hate huge phones, so no larger is not better.

I really don’t care what Displaymate says, but I will say last year crowning the Samsung winning the best display was hands down the right choice. While I don’t like the inaccurate colors Samsung uses, they did have the best display. That however is not the case this year. Apple did it better while having more accurate colors. If your going to use Displaymate from last year, you have to go with them this year. Can’t swap just because they didn’t say what you wanted.

And yet, you failed to answer the questions that were asked of you prior from aevan. So you chose to be dismissive by telling somebody else to get their eyes checked, when the reality is, everybody has opinions of what they find is a better display. Your answer to the Note 8 is not definitive, it's an opinion.
