What better way to entice Verizon to "see things Apple's way" than this:

"Verizon Wireless, America's most reliable wireless network announces the new Apple iPhone 4, exclusively in White."

I am guessing that's going to be the deal... why would they give it to AT&T if there's a new partner that needs something extra special to announce at launch? If you were Verizon, wouldn't YOU play that card?

:)

i have the white iphone 3gs and hate the color.. it shows everything just like the white macbooks. cracks dust scratches ect. white is a poor color choice for longevity.

Cue the "we dont need a white iphone anyway" "White iphone is unnecessary" "When we get it, it will be the best white phone ever."

I'm saying 2 coats or so of black primer(to make it opaque) then after it dries, apply the white paint. I fail to see how you would end up with a black iPhone by doing that...

If you apply the paint to the outside, then it's going to be subjected to scratching off. And with the black primer undercoating, that is going to look pretty ugly.

So Apple paints the inside of the glass white, so scratches to the glass don't mar the paint job.

I still find it odd that Apple is still not saying anything. I don't believe any of these stories yet, where is the apple pr release when you need it?

Can be applied to the inside then. White, then black.

That makes no sense. Maybe you didn't understand what I meant.

Um. Just what he said. The paint is on the *back* of a clear sheet of glass. If you lay down the black paint *first*, that's what will be visible from the *front* of the glass. They aren't painting the outer surface of the glass, they're painting the side of the glass which is inside the phone.

If true, this is a smart move on behalf of Apple.

By purportedly delaying the white iPhone, it keeps customers interested, enough until Springtime when we see the next iPhone iteration. On the other hand, it does detract from sales.

But from a marketing standpoint, it just doesn't make sense to delay the white phone, as it hampers what future technology is to come.

We can obviously presume that this delay is a hint, indicating when the next iPhone is to come (as if there was a wonder).

I'm curious about how Apple's going to announce the Verizon iPhone. With everyone saying it is to come out early next year, I just don't see how that's a smart way of introducing it.

Agreed, and it should solve the light leakage issue.

However, there must be a reason why this is not an option for Apple. Perhaps the white requires some light transfer through it to make it look white and applying a black or even grey coating behind it would dull the look.

Kids, why don't you just ask Stevo? I'm sure there would be an answer like this: "nope. Sent from my iPhone".

I see a white iPhone and I want to paint it black.
No colors anymore, I want them to turn black.

What about all the DIY white iphones? Like engadget's? Are they having problems with the camera washing out photos? Or any light leaking through? It seems as if they would have said something about it if it was true.

Seems fishy to me.

How 'bout just getting a white case?

Can we also please get rid of
  1. White Keyboards
  2. White Mouses
  3. White Cords
  4. And every other white thing that looks like crap after a few weeks of daily use

Yeah, I'm sure they thought of it, that could certainly be a reason.

I never understood the obsession with getting a white iPhone until I realized that if it only came in white, I'd be fixated on getting a black one.

My white keyboard, white mouse and white cords for my Macbook Pro, iPhone, and iPad all look as good as new. Maybe you need to take better card of your thing and they won't look like crap? I've never had a problem with owning anything white.
