The whole white iPhone thing cracks me up...

Apple, the company consistently leading the consumer electronics market with innovative designs, elegant software, and easy-to-use end-to-end solutions is brought to its knees...

...by the color white.
Maybe it's the way I read it, perhaps the way you intended ppl to read it, but I seriously laughed out loud at this. And I'm in school's silent study room.

:D

My mistake. The antenna issue was apparently fixed with the bumper too. I was also told that if you put some chunky third-party cases on, they reduce the chance of scratching and breaking the glass.

So there are no issues with it now, but only if you have a big lump of third-party plastic outside that nice object. I wonder what the point of design like this is.

I just realised that they look good on Apple's website, that's all. It's a shame that you can't drop it, can't put it close to your face and can't put your fingers anywhere on it without putting a condom on the handset.

I don't get it, why don't they just give it a coat or two of black primer, THEN give it a coat of white paint.

Black would show through and make grey. They should use a light grey reflective reverse coating... bet they didn't try that one.

Here's a suggestion:

Abandon the white, go for silver. Color Matching should be a LOT easier, not to mention preventing light leaks.

This just in...

Apple reaffirms its commitment to product quality by refusing to release sub-standard gear. Some endusers too stupid to appreciate the gesture.;-)

They worked their butts off to cancel the white iPhone

Hey noob! Proximity sensor bug was purely software. Fixed with 4.1.

Hey, captain genius! WRONG. Proximity sensor is a hardware bug, existing in my iPhone (along with countless others) under iOS 4.1.

I like mine.

No issues with discoloration. It doesn't physically feel any different than a black one.

When you have the flash on, it lights up the back panel due to light leakage, but it doesn't affect the pictures at all.

simple humor. LOL someone's pretty uptight about it. just saying
Actually wasn't aimed at you as was trawling through the the thread and it was everywhere. Pure coincidence that you'd posted that just before mine went up.

Uptight? No, just a bit tired of seeing it repeated ad nauseam.

I keep my phone in a case. Use it often actually. In fact, when the 3G first came out, I bought it, and it's as good now as it was then. No scratches, cracks, or anything. Then when the 4 came out, I upgraded. Since then, same thing; no scratches, or issues. Never experienced the "Antenna" issue. Lastly, I guess my hands are clean, and free of 'fluids". I clean the screen off every now/then, but you'll get that with any/all touch screens, not just the iPhone.

If you don't like them, don't use them. I somehow see you with one of those cool flip phones, with big numbers, and rubber bumpers...what do they call those?? Oh ya!!!! A Jitterbug....

I'm gonna say it right here.

You're a retard if you pay over $200 for a White iPhone conversion kit.

That's the price of the entire phone for Christ's sake.

Its even funnier when you think that a few years ago Apple pretty much invented the idea of electronics being white as opposed to the standard black/grey of the time.

You're imagining it. It was fixed with 4.1 for me, so I don't see how your case should be any different. It was even in the update notes. Nice try anyway.

We are talking about around 16 years ago. Anyway, then please, ignore the comment above.

The heavily subsidized price after signing a lengthy and expensive cell provider contract, yes.

Elsewhere in the civilized world of open networks, the SIM-free iPhone 4 runs between $700-900

It's painted on the back off the glass.

If you applied a coat of black primer, you would end up with a black iPhone.

Good point; but then obvious rejoinder is to use white primer on the glass, let it dry, THEN add the black coat. The purpose is to get a black coat in addition to the visible white coat.

My white keyboard, white mouse and white cords for my Macbook Pro, iPhone, and iPad all look as good as new. Maybe you need to take better card of your thing and they won't look like crap? I've never had a problem with owning anything white.

Maybe you haven't walked into a production studio and seen how employees who don't care to keep the equipment clean rub their grubby hands all over the macs...

I give an example of how washing your hands keeps your iStuff shiny and white. You come back with an example of how dirty hands make iStuff dirty. My original hypothesis is now a theory.

Whats the point if they are going to release it in the spring, a new iPhone would be right around the corner at that point and it wouldn't make sense to release it then. This is probably the best move, however they should have a white iPhone at launch for iPhone 5.

The problem from what I hear is that white plastic cracks a lot more than black. We remember the fiasco with the previous white iPhone that would get cracks. Something about the dyes or the process used to make it. I am sure apple wants to make sure that won't happen again. With all the problems the iPhone 4 has it does not need any more problems.

I always buy my electronics in a color other than white... white also gets dirty easily and has a tendency to discolor, not nice if I just spent a huge chunk of money on a product...

black iPhones were prone to cracks as well... I had a black 3G before going to the White 3GS they both had cracks in the same areas, near the headphone jack, volume controls and camera housing

That's not the fault of the manufacturer. Also, as someone with hyperhydrosis, I can tell you that the color of the keyboard does not matter.

It looks like there's something underhanded going on and probably some back door deal in the works. C'mon! How hard is it to produce a white iPhone? Give me a break! I'm not buying that "home button color match" excuse  I wouldn't be surprised with next years Verizon iPhone launch, white would be an available color. Verizon probably paid Apple a hefty sum to keep white exclusive to them.

really? then why are all the white iPhones seen in the wild AT&T GSM? riddle me that?

This actually would make sense...

no this makes NO SENSE AT ALL...and besides once apple starts selling white phones you can just order the glass pannels from them to undercut any carrier colored exclusive....
