Once the iPhone goes multi-carrier, they could do a special color to differentiate between carriers, ie red for Verizon, orange for AT&T (with black still available for all carriers).

Better still; Apple should sell there new phones exclusively through the Apple Store and mail order as unlocked phones and let AT&T, Verizon, and other cell phone carriers compete for customers with service contracts that supplement handset costs. This would be a win for Apple and for customers, and this kind of healthy competition between carriers would ensure faster and continued evolution of cell phone service throughout the world.

That won't work.

The iPhone is already multi-carrier in most major markets.

The three biggest markets with exclusive carriers are the U.S. (AT&T), Germany (T-Mobile), China (China Unicom), and Japan (Softbank). Countries like Canada, UK, Australia are all multi-carrier markets.

Frankly, I think Apple would just prefer to sell all colors everywhere. Limiting sales by spurious color allocation by channel partner doesn't really make a lot of business sense. Besides the few oddballs here, who really wants a red phone to show that they're a Verizon fanboi?

If I upgrade to an iPhone 5 (whenever that is), I may get white. But I'm thoroughly enjoying black right now. Seriously, if you're a yearly upgrader, just go with black, and then white next time around.

Exactly what I decided, a year is too short to wait forever for white this time around.

i feel like this is intentional (meaning they can make and ship them now if they want)

but thats just my opinion, and i have been wrong before

the intentional delay helps them clear out more of the problematic black phones (which may not bee selling as hot as planned - still hot to normal companies, but maybe not as hot as secretly forecasted)

they may also be quite close to fixing the antenna, so they figure just roll out the new phone with the fix

they also may want to have a double peak in interest. one in june, then again in november before holidays

who knows - i dont care just fun to speculate

Obviously :)

The black ones of anything have always sold better. Including iPods. Remember, they charged an extra $50 for the BLACK MacBook.

Word is, it's the Corning "gorilla glass"; it's hard to make it white. They've been doing it, but they're having to throw out a lot of glass, and they can't ramp up the numbers.

I don't think it's Gorilla glass. If I remember correctly, Apple said they developed a new type of glass specifically for the iP4.

Who would want a white iPhone anyway! :)

Studies have shown that certain colors are more attractive or more perceptive to a person and white is one of them. The same question can be asked about other Apple products that are white. And guess what Apple still makes them and it still sells. Really this hyper masculinity BS is just a cover for one's own self image of what constitutes masculinity ie.... Well you fill in the blank.

After the latest delay, i finally did go with black. If white comes out before December, i'm gonna get a white one anyway. I have several options for doing so. So we'll see what happens.

A shame for people who preferred the white model, but personally the iPhone should always be "black".

At the time I loved the whole "white phase" Apple went through with their Macs and iPods and owned a LOT of both brands during that era.

However times change, and the black and stainless steel looks brilliant alongside my aluminum and black glass iMac ... provided I don't use the white iPhone dock. :D

I wanted to get a white one, but I may just end up getting a second black one.

This sucks because real men have white iPhones.

Yeah, I really wanted white but there's no way I'll wait until December. When/if it does come out, I may try and sell the black one to pay for a white one like others here, but that really depends on how far away an iPhone 5 launch is at that point.

Yes, the sad truth is that by the time the white iPhone appears you have had so many months of use wasted, and the phone you have now (assuming it's an iPhone) is worth that much less on e-Bay, it really doesn't pay to wait for things. Might as well wait for the iPhone 5 past a certain point.

I just decided to go for it and enjoy it now regardless of what Verizon decides to do, or when the white one comes out or any other thing I can imagine to trip myself up with.

I'm happy with the black one I have now. But if we get the iPhone 5 next summer, then I might want to get a white one. I have a pattern.

Black 3G
White 3GS
Black i4
White i5

Hopefully the white iPhone 5 would be available right there on launch date. But if I recall correctly, the white 3GS wasn't available on launch, either. Was it? But whatever, as long as it isn't another 6 month wait like with the iPhone 4, I can wait a few weeks for that white iPhone 5. I'll just stay content with my i4 until then.

I'm kind of on the same pattern! The black is really slick though, so I may stick with it for iPhone 5, we'll see ;)

No the 3G and 3GS were both available in white at launch. I received mine on launch day.

I'm gonna say it again. LOL at all the idiots who returned their black iPhone 4s because they thought the white iPhone 4 was coming out July 30th
