Look for another segment from Brian Williams on the NBC Nightly News: "More bad news for Apple and their already troubled, much maligned iPhone 4"

If this happened to any other mfr it would only be mentioned on geek blogs, But because it is hip to hate on Apple these days it is like somebody put cyanide in the Tylenol.

lie 2 |lʌɪ|
noun
an intentionally false statement : Mungo felt a pang of shame at telling Alice a lie | the whole thing is a pack of lies.

mistake |mɪˈsteɪk|
noun
an action or judgment that is misguided or wrong : coming here was a mistake | she made the mistake of thinking they were important.

gaffe |gaf|
noun
an unintentional act or remark causing embarrassment to its originator; a blunder : an unforgivable social gaffe.

New Oxford American Dictionary

There are some rather important differences between and among those words. To accuse someone of lying implies a type of mens rea that is wholly absent in the case of a simple mistake (be it of judgement or fact).

OR in·com·pe·tent (n-kmp-tnt)
adj.
1. Not qualified in legal terms: a defendant who was incompetent to stand trial.
2. Inadequate for or unsuited to a particular purpose or application.
3. Devoid of those qualities requisite for effective conduct or action.

I'm willing to bet that the white iphones will be available shortly AFTER the free bumper program offically ends...

Trying times for Apple.

You would have thought Apple would have known manufacturering issues? They would have to have built some post-sale models.

They knew they had manufacturing issues, which is why there was an initial delay for the white model. It just turns out they weren't able to produce the quality of they wanted with the current process. Sounds like they're starting over, researching a better process, and relaunching the white model later once they're happy.

I really don't see the trying times. Apple has introduced a lot of new products or revisions to products with no problems outside of the antenna "issue" (Sorry, it's not a real issue; give me a break.) New Mac Mini: no problems. Updates to Macbooks: no problems. iOS 4: no problems. iPad: no problems, huge success. Updates to MobleMe: no problems, testing in beta.

There's just such a huge spotlight on Apple that any problem (real or perceived) seems like the end of the world because we're so used to their products being really good.

well we know from a lot of official sources that the white iPhone does exist (wwdc, walt, various reviewers) and white is just another color paint like black.

logic dictates it's not the paint, i doubt it's a antenna redesign either, what I am starting to wonder is that they get most of the people wanting the white iphone to buy black then, when white rolls around we end up buying that one too, thus inflating the numbers?

long shot conspiracy... but it's really hard for me to swallow how much a company let alone apple has dropped the ball

Wow, just wow. There are just some mindless people here that no psych could ever help. Just too much Apple hate, some people here just make me ill. The press did nothing but try to screw over Apple by making the iPhone 4 problem seem to be only Apple's problem. The company has acknowledged the public's concerns and issued out free bumpers and even refunds to people who already purchased them. This is nothing Apple was required by law to do. They are just trying to do the right thing so they reduce the usual bitching from the mindless people here.

Now they are acknowledging that the white iPhone 4 is not ready to be shipped due to production issues and these same mindless people here are upset? Why? Do you want Apple to release the white iPhone so we can have another debacle due to issues with the phone? A company wants to make sure that their upcoming product is ready for prime time so their customers will have a better experience, especially after the last big problem but the usual "GOTTA HAVE IT NOW, GOTTA HAVE IT NOW" lemmings are pissed because they can't buy a white iPhone to show off to their friends and co-workiers.
Some of you please get the hell of the internet and go to the park and enjoy because you're gonna have a heart attack from so much Apple hate. :p

Last week everything was OK, and this week there is a delay till later this year? I'm disappointed in Apple. If they had just been honest from the start it would have been ok.

Come on people. Does anyone really think that Steve would deliberately lie knowing that a week later they were going to announce it was delayed to the end of the year? Sheesh!

Maybe next time you'll be more patient instead of feeling like you have to be cool and get a shiny new iPhone when everyone else does.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D

Oh god I just thought of something. There are going to be 200 threads today titled "WAHHHHHH I can't get mah white iPhone 4 WAHHHHHHHH"

Think I'll log out for the day/weekend :D

My thoughts exactly.

I wanted the white, and held out, but end of year will just be to long. I'll be content with black. (and NO, I won't swap it later)

To all those who returned their black JUST to get white (you know who you are)....I LAUGH IN YOUR FACE! CLEARLY, now you're not going to get a black one again, RIGHT? You want your oh so precious white that you'll just have to wait like the rest of us did. "I had signal problems", "I needed a phone on launch day" etc etc. Well what now? You just returned a perfectly good phone and now you have to buy it again. If you had problems you could have just swapped it, BUT NO! You wanted the white one, NOW WAIT FOR IT!

You have your fanboy hat on?

Ipad had wifi problems, macbook pros have heat problems, imac 27 have yellow tint, crackling, fan problems.

iphone 4 reception, iphone 4 proximity sensor, iphone 4 lies etc

apple is screwing up. but fanboys refuses to see that, not odd of course. apple is so cocky it stinks, they should stop being so full of themselves.

In other news, Apple is renaming the iPhone 4 to the 'Appleford Model T'. It is believed Jobs was quoted as saying that "customers can have the phone painted any color they want, as long as it is black!" ;) :D :apple:

Hey guy, apparently you didn't notice, but apple does have a strange habit of fixing their problems eventually. Sorry if this comes as a shock to your system. If you find any problems with apple products that makes you not want to buy it, then don't, and wait for a fix. It's that simple really. The iMac problem was fixed ages ago... MBPs don't have heat problems, and the iPad wifi problem is AFAIK not a very common problem. So it's not the end of the world, although they definitely do still have some things to fix.

Based on the minimal amount of returns as a result of the drama from this release, I'd say iPhone 5 won't be any less appealing at all!

I think they both are appealing. Hopefully the 5 will be appealing + work! Still, there are many who swear up and down that even if it makes no calls its still the best smart phone around and they will buy 3.

More or less. They did mess up with the displays on the latest 27'' iMac for awhile when it was first launched, but other than that, you're right. The antenna issue is in fact not unique to the iPhone 4, I make my palm phone go from 5 bars to 1 bar easily in weak signal areas, just like the iPhone 4. I hate to say it, and I may be called a "fanboi" for saying it, but steve jobs was right. Live with it. There is no solid data that says that this problem is unique to the iPhone 4, and until there is, I'll be getting one in august, when my sprint contract runs out...

I've never had a phone drop as many calls as my iP4.

So if pricing for me was going to be $199 + $18 for the ip4...If i was to hold off until the IP5 what would the pricing be then? I don't see the point in holding off to get the white IP4 and then not have an any upgrade eligibility come next June/July when the IP5 comes out.

Apple should just cancel it. Although I know a few people that are actually waiting for it to come out.

I can't see why it would be so hard to make a white iPhone 4. This isn't 1810...

Good point however isn't the new equipment time frame two years or 18 months? I can't upgrade until February and at that it's at the $499 price... My idea of going to unsubsidized phones doesn't make sense now, but if people want a new one bad enough, they should be able to get one. I just hate the idea that people are economically locked into the current phone, and physically locked (aside from jail breaking) with their current wireless company... We should be able to get the phone we want and have the ability to take it to any wireless provider we want that is compatible with our phone. We also shouldn't have to sign a two year extension every time that we purchase a new phone, especially at the non-subsidized price! That's what chaps my ass... If AT&T isn't subsidizing the damn phone, end the demand that I submit to a two year contract.

lol @ the guy saying Apple did not lie.

They obviously knew last week at the conference the white is not coming but lied to take the antenna gate heat off. One week later its delayed for multiple months. Sure they had no idea.

I believe its faster for them to produce the black one and at this point they just want money. So they'll mass produce and sell them as fast as possible to meet demand in other countries as well.
Steve Jobs lied and people died!
