End of the World 25 June 2010?

Is the world going to end the day after the iPhone 4 launch? People are acting like the world is coming to an end and are devastated they won't get their hands on the new iPhone before Armageddon. I understand the enthusiasm but damn..

The iPhone 4 will work the same whether you get it on the 24th or later. It'll still do multitasking, it'll still do FaceTime, it'll still have a retina display, etc.

I'm getting the iPhone but I'll get it when I get it.

Anyways, we'll definitely know which team Lebron will end up before the white iPhone becomes available..

Ordered two (family plan) on the 14th from apple. One shipped just now. Other is still prepared for shipment. The second order is the one that shipped. (had to do it as two orders for some reason).

Same boat here, second phone I ordered shipped (16g). First (32g) still says prepared.

I still stand by what I just posted in response to Chris' post. So basically AT&T has dropped the ball, but you plan on holding Apple accountable because their Apple Store App let you reserve an iPhone 4 at the $199 price point (which as you know was supposedly done by checking AT&T's authorization system which is probably completely inaccurate in your particular case given the mess you and AT&T are currently involved in). That's completely selfish on your part. Using my Miss Cleo powers I've come to the conclusion that you and AT&T are a match made in heaven as you're both being disingenuous (albeit to different parties).

You have serious anger management issues. Who said I was going to be difficult? You've read way to much into what my experience has been. Further, as an ex apple exployee at the store I reserved my iPhone I still know the management so I'm not concerned. I merely conveyed my experience so that if someone else is dealing with the same issue perhaps my advice would be helpful.

Aside from that, you've made some extremely angry and broad generalizations bout who I am as a person. Are you Miss Cleo? Can you read fortunes as well as you can judge people? He who is without sin...

Oh and PS I do volunteer and make use of my time. I don't spend it making a customer service reps day a nightmare. I used to be one of those reps and as someone else stated AT&T can stand by their word and contractual agreement. They're not. End of discussion.

Try Friday Morning At An Apple Store

Bound to be a lot of unclaimed rerserved iPhones at all the Apple Stores Friday morning. So if your order got canceled and you're within driving distance of an Apple Store, you should be able to score one Friday morning. :)

The problem is that the in-store "reservations" are complete BS. My confirmation email shows the model, price, location, and says, "Thanks for reserving your iPhone. It will be here June 24."

I made this "reservation" first thing in the morning on the 15th, but now that I look at the email again I notice the following fine print: "Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis."

Basically, they tell you that you've made a reservation and that your phone will be there on the 24th. They prominently display in the email, "Please note that your reservation will be held until close of business on June 24." All of this leads one to believe that they have an actual phone reserved at a physical Apple store location. Then at the bottom in small, hard to read gray print on a white background, they inform you that what you've done does not amount to an actual reservation.

People need to read more carefully before they panic. If Apple meant that reservations were first-come first-served they would say so. They didn't.

Reservations does not equal pre-authorizations. Reservations means there's a phone reserved and, yes that means sitting at the store with your name on it. Pre-authorization is the check Apple does with ATT.

THIS is what's going on. I called 800-Apple, and the guy told me that the "system" is treating those orders as "duplicates".

So, just like you, my first order (MY phone, 32G) has been cancelled. But my second order (my WIFE'S phone, 16G) is all good.

Ya know... this all could've been easily remedied by NOT SENDING A FRIGGIN NO-REPLY EMAIL ON A SATURDAY NIGHT.

Great customer service guys!

I only placed one order, am upgrade eligible, no problems whatsoever, and somehow my order was canceled. I received a no reply email this evening stating my order was canceled, however the order number it referenced wasn't my order number - not even close. I don't know what's going on here.

My money is on Chicago... In fact I'll bet my new iPhone 4 on it when I get one...

I'll take that bet!

Sorry man, but LeBron isn't leaving Cleveland. He's gotta be a one-team guy if he ever wants to achieve Kobe/Jordan/Magic levels. As much as he wants to win, he'd still rather be an icon anyway. He ain't a winner, he's just the best baller on the planet.

You'll get your bloody iPhone, just chill out.

Remember, this isn't just a phone. It is "THE" phone. Any phone with a similar feature is automatically shunned (at least by fanboys, anyway). It is the phone that will end world hunger, cure all decease, and all that crap....

SO YOU SEE... This phone is just a phone but this phone will do things!

Most curious. I got two order cancellation emails from Apple today. Funny thing is, I had already cancelled my order a few days ago because I too had gotten a second order through AT&T's site while trying to get either system to take my order. I'm wondering, as others have suggested, if perhaps some of my failed attempts to order actually went through, and it's THOSE that Apple cancelled? They may be trying to cleanup the mess left in the wake of pre-order day, with falsely recorded orders that didn't look like they went though, and are accidentally taking out some legit orders in the process. Fortunately for me, my real order is with AT&T, and still looks to be intact.

complain, bitch, whine -- JE*US -- the white phones are being reassembled with new faces because steve didn't like that you could see the sensors on the white one, and it took articles like these:

to point it out. perfectionism has its price.

(i'm just guessing about all this of course, but i bet it's true..)

you'll spell out 'bitch' but halfass censor 'jesus'? what was the point of that?

weak.

I said there was a glitch the day pre-orders started. I was able to order three phones at the low price and plan on selling/giving to friends that can't get one the day it comes out or going to eBay. There absolutely was a glitch.

Apple must honor that commitment, if they don't in the store then speak with management. "Glitch" or not, it was approved and verified. Any one who is in this situation needs to speak with Apple in person during the day of pickup for reservations and/or speak with an Apple rep over the phone. Otherwise they will simply get away with screwing people over.

so let me get this right. brownieguy managed to skull**** the system glitch by ordering three iphones at the out-of-contract price, plans to hawk them on eBay for god knows how much and yet Apple's the one screwing people over?

what is the definition of fraud again? :)

Okay, I'm going to ask this again, because TBH I really don't understand.

Why do you need the new iPhone on the release date?

Really. Why? Why is it so important that you get angry, frustrated, and irate over a freaking phone because you have to have it on the release day.

What ever happened to patience? Is it really so hard to wait a month before you get it? Will your life end over it? I doubt it.

I understand being pissed about Apple canceling pre-orders, thats legitimate, but really, why such the clamor for pre-orders? Has our society really gone that far down hill that when we don't get what we want right away its suddenly an outrage? It just reminds me of little kids with grabby hands that want everything, and then throw a temper-tantrum when they don't get it.

Very good questions. It’s just vanity sometimes and sometimes pure thrill of having something that has been just released. While there is nothing wrong with either, I also find the outrage here a little off. Consumerism does not pay off. And besides: everyone will get their iphones, just patience.

Cannot keep up with demand

I wish AT&T (We don't have Verizon or T-Mobile here) offered decent Android phones, i'd be done with iPhones at this point. To not give ANY explanation for the white iPhones not being available is a joke. Especially considering they gave no hint that they may not be available when the iPhone 4 was released. And almost a week later, we still hear NOTHING from Apple on the white iPhone 4.

The white iPhone is not available at launch because they cannot keep up with demand. For every white iPhone you see on the street there are a 1000 black ones. This would indicate that this niche item requires them to switch a line over to producing white iPhones for a few hours to fulfill the demand for white and then switch back to black. Losing time in the production switch.

Everyone knows that the white is actually ground up unicorn horn. They only 3 times a year and have a maximum of 4 offspring per mating pair. Hence the obvious delay.

You guys are just silly

Seriously, did you all fall off the silly truck and think you could bi-pass the "one iPhone per shipping address" rule that was posted? Of coarse your double orders are getting cancelled.... It's to avoid you getting more then one and being unfair to others, Who might miss out because you could have 70 brothers under one roof.

1 iPhone, per customer, per shipping address.
This was the rule since day 1.... Stop whining only one of those household items were cancelled.

2nd. You have to have your AT&T account perfectly up to date in order to do anything right with them.... If you got cancelled, it's probably because you owe them a bit of money, or you dunked with your contract somehow.

No, I don't understand. Why are there so many people on here acting like the fact that anyone cares about a phone is such a revolting thing that said people should shoot themselves in the head right now because they have nothing to live for. I feel the vast majority of people on this apple, and therefore iPhone-focused forum are not throwing tantrums but thoughtfully voicing the fact they are upset with the lack of communication from apple, and would just like to know when they will get the phone many of them have already payed for or would like some sort of timetable on the color they are waiting for, which is not at all childish, but completely justified.

As I previously stated, I have no problems with being upset with Apple over the process or what you stated there:
I understand being pissed about Apple canceling pre-orders, thats legitimate
Ergo, claims in accordance to this topic are quite valid; I was more so referring to the general demeanor of most iPhone preorder clientèle. Being angry at the lack of transparency is one thing; stomping around because you can't get it right off the bat is another.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume there isn't a good reason to cancel orders. If there was a mistake in the order that couldn't be processed while the servers were down, like a mismatched address or credit problem, or such, it may be canceled and require a re-order. It's the server problem from launch day to blame. I doubt they'd cancel good orders for no reason. They're losing money.

Bullish

well my order with aT&t is still good and in process but my fiances order somehow was canceled doesnt make sense and as soon as apple opens i am going to be one of the many angry customers......... i called yesterday and they convinced me what it was just a mistake probably on my part and now today i read these and its the same issues ............no credit issues here matter of fact the hold is still on my card ................i did not pre order more than one phone 2 phones 2 lines one through att and one through apple ..........and what do you know the att one still has life???? looks like i will be waiting in a line in some small town lol for this phone 2am

I did read carefully. The problem is that there are conflicting statements in the email.

Here is the main body of the email:

Now here is the fine print. Check the first line of small gray print down there:

Someone else has stated that they talked to their local Apple store and were told that this is indeed a reservation. I'll be calling the store specified in this email later today in the hopes of getting the same confirmation.

My point is that this is clearly not an issue of just "reading more carefully." There are conflicting statements, and I'm not going to be comfortable until I speak with someone at the Apple store.
