It's just that black is slimming. ;)

All this image shows is that the person measuring the white iPhone 4 has no idea how to use a caliper. The idea of a caliper isn't to squeeze the crap out of whatever you're measuring. It is obvious that the in the right picture they are squeezing much harder just looking at the discoloration of the persons skin on their thumb.

Did they confirm that the table on which they put the two iPhones was totally even?

Did they confirm they did not photoshop? I doubt they would. But these days, they would do anything for a headline.

tipb also used calipers and found a difference. http://www.tipb.com/2011/04/28/white-iphone-4-roughly-02mm-thicker-black-iphone/

Otterbox, a maker of iPhone 4 cases, also confirms http://www.otterbox.com/iPhone-4-Re...XX_color=20&start=2&cgid=apple-iphone-4-cases:
Not compatible with WHITE iPhone 4. Due to slight changes in the form factor for the white Apple iPhone 4 released this week, the OtterBox Defender Series, Commuter Series and Impact Series cases will not work with this new device.

as well as several other people.

You are quickly encroaching into wild conspiracy theory territory if you think all these people/sites are making this up.

Another theory

The White iPhones are new and the black iPhones they are comparing them to are older devices.

The iPhone 4 is just so awesome that it shrinks over time. It is the new planned obsolescence/green solution. In 100 years they with shrink down to nothing.

i bet SJ was hyperventilating and staying up sleepless nights because they white iphone was thicker. finally after months he relented and allowed a thicker phone to go on sale

OK.

I wasn't aware of those sites. All I said was that I was doubtful of Engadget.

But I'll take it; some have some don't.

Yes, a micrometer would be a more repeatable measurement method. Can I see a gage R&R study and and 30 piece capability study, please. :)

that is NOT, and I repeat NOT a white iPhone, that is a fake white Phone. NOW, Do you get it?

Agreed, there were aftermarket front and back plates for sale since last year so you could convert your black iP4 to a white one, the picture must be of one of those modified white iPhones.

No evidence that they have the white iPhones, they could be basing it on the possibly faked image

Sorry sir, but you are wrong. The difference is only in the post-process of the images. Your "perceived" skin discoloration is because the second image has a higher level of contrast, thus blowing away the highlights and enhancing the midtones and shadows.
