Man am I glad I didn't wait for a white one! iPhone 4 is soon to be obsolete, and it's STILL not here!

Sorry man! The iPhone 4's display (and Ghz CPU) is going to make it much more relevant than say, a 3Gs...its got tons of life left in it. Now, the iPhone 5 probably WILL have the dual core A5 (just like the iPad2)...and maybe more storage capacity. But thats no big deal...IMO, its the "retina" display thats the game changer.

You clearly didn't read his entire post :)
I agree the iPhone 5 will be a spec bump, but i doubt it will "only" be a spec bump. And a spec bump is a massive upgrade imo. Some people confuse the external design to be a major upgrade only.

But what i was labelling as "sarcasm" was the fact that the poster said "I could actually imagine Apple waiting out a year." i.e not releasing an iPhone 5. That would be a horrible move by Apple.

I stand corrected and I agree with you. Sorry for misreading.

Personally, I think the current design is great. I love mine and besides design, all Apple can really do is improve on what's there. Maybe 4G? Maybe RFID? But really.. what else is there? I don't see where the Kitchen sink fits into a smart phone?

If you're keeping the same body - which is what everyone should expect based on previous iPhone updates -

Your logic makes no sense. Apple has come out with an upgraded phone 3 times, and only once, with the 3Gs, did they keep the same form factor. Now I'm not saying the iPhone 5 won't have the same form factor as the 4, just that using the above logic can't be applied.

You're right the iPhone 4 will probably have a longer life than it's predecessors. I'm sure the higher resolution display will be in the iPhone 5 as well.
But try explaining that when the future iOS will require use of the Dual Cores, the iPhone 4 will then fall flat.
Apple will always add features to make existing iPhone 4 customers to upgrade.
If anything the iPhone 5 will have the longest life.. until the future iOS requires Quad cores (when they arrive).

No problem.
You're right, I'm just hopeful for a bigger screen while keeping the same phone dimensions.
Looking forward to NFC as well. I think Apple will surprise us like they always do, and provide something to get the existing iPhone 4 owners to upgrade.

If this happens I am would wager than Apple plans on a late summer launch of iPhone 5 rather than early as in the past.

You do realize that there's a whole world of demand outside America with people who are waiting for the iPhone 5 and don't care about Verizon right?

the iPad 3 event people are hearing about in September is really just actually the next iPhone event and people got confused

It's true they've done this before, but they haven't done it with the 3G or 3GS.
Apple bumped the specs of the original 2G iPhone after its release but before the 3G version came out. They increased the memory that you could choose, about 8 months after it's release, in the same year that the 3G was eventually released.

so there is precedent for them releasing different versions before a major change.
I think the release of the white is hilarious. For some reason, I remember reading posts from all these twits who got rid of their black iphone4, so they could wait for the white one.

Sure, software will always change and be optimized for the latest and greatest hardware...my point is, the iP4 will handle this with far more grace than examples within previous generations. Also, I dont think the OS will necessarily drive the necessity of dual cores...but rather the applications. Peace Yo!

Agreed on the retina display, which I've been enjoying since the launch day of the iPhone 4. Doesn't change the fact that we will both own antiquated hardware once the iPhone 5 launches.

The only reason I see them actually bothering with this is if the iPhone 5 will be the same form factor (i.e. 3G to 3Gs) meaning that production on the cases will not have to stop & reset when the new model is released.

If the rumors of that all aluminum iPhone 5 are true, then I fail to see why they even wasted their time with the white iPhone 4 unless someone high up said "We said we would do it & dammit, we are going to do it!"

I still think we'll see iPhone 4GS or iPhone 5 in June/July. Yes, the iPhone 4 will last longer than previous versions, but the same could be said for the iPad. iPad 2 launched after only 9 months, with HP announcing a competing model that it can't ship until (at best) late summer 2011?

What would be the point?

Surely most people who have waited this long, will simply wait that little bit longer until June now?

seriously, who gives a **** when apple releases a white iphone 4?

nobody conscious buys an iphone when the next generation will be published within the next 3 month..

I don't understand... Do those of you with iPhone 4s not like them? I'm very happy with my iPhone 4, I have no complaints. It was h e l l having an 8GB 3G for so long, now *that* phone sucked. But the iPhone 4 is sleek, fast, has a fantastic camera, plus FaceTime, MMS, video, etc. I'm happy as a clam! And if apple wants to sell a slightly better white version (the color I originally wanted) then ****in A, man. What's the problem?
I'll take a white iPhone 4, especially if I can get it with 64GB :D

Geeze who actually waited for a white iPhone? Congrats to those that did. Personally I cannot even wait to Friday to get my iPad 2.

There has to be some kind of incentive for this if they actually do release it.

Maybe it releases for $100-$150 or as others have said, maybe it's a 64GB model.

I just can't see them making much money off a $199 16GB white iPhone 4 releasing in April. Only 2 months until iPhone 5...you'd be insane not to wait.

I feel your pain because i have the 8GB iPhone 3G, and i skipped the 3GS and 4 update. My iPhone was fine until i downloaded iOS 4.
Anyway, i'll finally be upgrading to the iPhone 5 and then probably won't be updating for a while after that.

I wouldn't mind getting the white iPhone - I prefer it to the black - but I gave up my upgrade to my sis when she lost her phone; so I'm not sure I'd pay the full price for an iPhone at the moment.

There may be an iPhone 5 coming, but so what - if you hold off every time a new consumer device is coming you'd never buy anything.
