Exactly. way too late. Doesn't make sense. If I was apple I'd just make white iPhone 5. Granted they'd sell some either way.

Woohoo! Now all they need to do is announce the Powerbook G5 and I'll be one happy camper!

Unless they plan to release the iPhone 5 much later in the year.

Now THAT I can see. They're just bringing Verizon customers onboard with 2-year contracts. Do they really want to alienate them in 5 short months?

This is for all the people who say that Apple's once-per-year hardware updates are not good enough in this Android-ridden world. We just saw a CDMA iPhone 4, now we'll get the long-awaited White iPhone 4, then in a few months we'll get the 64Gb iPhone (in both colors and on both carriers). Then we'll get an iPhone 5 around November, just in time for Christmas, right after the iPad 3 is launched in late September, early October.

Full-on, relentless attack mode!

I can't tell if you're serious or being sarcastic. Re-releasing the same phone on a different carrier doesn't count as a new model. Neither does releasing the same phone in a new color.

1 of 2 things...

iPhone 5 is not coming out in June/July

or.. this report is totally wrong

If you're keeping the same body - which is what everyone should expect based on previous iPhone updates - you would want to make sure that your white iPhone is ready. There's no better time to do it than with the iPhone 4 now.

I'm telling you. Someone will be buying a 64GB White iPhone, running iOS 4.3 this summer, and to them, it will feel like they have a very new device. It will seem that way to gawkers as well.

Didn't say it was a new model. The new model will be the new model. This would simply be a new iPhone, which is plenty good enough for some people out there. That's all I was saying.

Nothing wrong with incremental changes.

I hope your post was sarcasm. :)

The other poster is right on. The "iphone5" will more than likely be a spec bump to the 4... just like the 3 to 3Gs. I would think same case, better processor, more storage, RFID and iOS5.

So... doing the white one now is fine... it will get bumped with the rest. Besides, Apple is selling iPhone 4's as fast as they can. Adding the White might add a few more customers or faster sell through. Not a bad thing.

You clearly didn't read his entire post :)

I agree the iPhone 5 will be a spec bump, but i doubt it will "only" be a spec bump. And a spec bump is a massive upgrade imo. Some people confuse the external design to be a major upgrade only.

But what i was labelling as "sarcasm" was the fact that the poster said "I could actually imagine Apple waiting out a year." i.e not releasing an iPhone 5. That would be a horrible move by Apple.

Now THAT I can see. They're just bringing Verizon customers onboard with 2-year contracts. Do they really want to alienate them in 5 short months?

You do realize that there's a whole world of demand outside America with people who are waiting for the iPhone 5 and don't care about Verizon right?

With the release of the iPhone in June/July?

I have to ask what's the point?
Sales.

People will continue to buy the iPhone 4 until the day the iPhone 5 ships. It won't really cost Apple more to manufacture a white handset. The customer benefits because they have a choice of color.

Remember, there is still a full quarter left before the presumed arrival of the next generation iPhone. Let's say 16 million iPhones with an average sales price of $600. That's $9.6 billion in revenue.

Finally! I can now put the White iPHone in a Red case and have a red iphone...duh!

I think the white is ugly, and it really doesn't matter since most people use a case, and most cases cover much of the front!

Fail.

doesn't make sense
(1) all the Verzion customers knew that there will be a new phone in Juni/July (at least very likely)

(2) 91.3% customers on AT&T and 8.7% customers on Verizon - if you have to choose whom to piss of, would you really rather piss off the AT&T customers ?

(3) Many soon-to-be Verizon iPhone customers are probably waiting (hoping) for the iPhone 5 in June/July

I doubt we will ever see a White iPhone 4 ever.... its going to be coming out every month till the next iPhone is released, then it will all start again...... never mind I much prefer the black editions to be honest... an aluminium one wouldn't be a bad idea if it is made out of the same material from the MacBook Pro it may feel slightly more secure when holding it.

I'm with you on that. I'm not buying into this business about the 5 looking much like the current iPod touch. With the 4 they substantially broke away from iPhones looking like iPods. I assume to clearly differentiate the brands, which is actually a keen marketing move. Now they'd go BACKWARDS? I don't think so. 5 will ship in virtually identical form factor of 4, that's my bet. This rap about glass backs scratching too easily, since October there's not a mark on the back of my 4. Not even the logo has a single scratch. And I don't ever put that 4 in a case. Ever seen what happens to the aluminum backs of iPods?

It makes perfect sense if the iPhone 5 has exactly the same body as the 4. It costs them nothing extra to start production now, and it also boosts awareness at a time of year when sales might dip. Also its perfect for those wanting matching phone & iPad2 in white.

Because the iPhone4 will replace the iPhone 3Gs when the iPhone5 will be out?

That's how I feel. If they release the white iPhone 4 in the next month or so, it probably means that they will keep both the white and black iPhone 4 around as the low end/entry model iPhone (like how the 3G was after the 3GS intro, and the 3GS is now after the iP4 intro) once the iPhone 5 (or whatever the next gen name is) is released. And probably bring out a white and black iPhone 5 this summer at the regular update schedule.

Even as a traditional Apple fanboy, I must say that this news is ABSOLUTELY irrelevant when everyone and their dog is expecting the iPhone 5 in June/July...who the hell cares about a white iPhone 4 now?

Acceptance is the first step to recovery.
