Would anyone recommend the bodyguardz skin over a hard case such as speck, or the moshi palmguard over the bodyguardz one? I'm worried about all the liquid involved in the application process of the bodyguardz.

I got one a few weeks back. Very nice computer. Just not really liking the rubberized bottom. Seems like it will get real dirty. I wonder if all future Macbooks will have this, ummm, "feature"?

I think the rubberized bottom is better than the little buttons that always ended up falling off and making your computer wobble.

it will get dirty, but IMHO it is a glorious addition to the line: it stops the laptop sliding around when you are using it on your lap while travelling.

They started this on the clamshell G3 ibook, and I am glad that they have started to use it again

I like it too -- my only complaint is that unless the laptop is on a completely flat surface, it tends to wobble.

does anyone know where's the best place to get a palm guard?

I hear great things about Moshi, I was going to get one but I also want a protective skin for the case. The bodyguardz comes with a palmguard skin as well but I like the fact that the Moshi is color matched.

White Macbook Unibody

I had bought a 13.3 inch Aluminium Macbook for my mother, around the end of April last year. I just bought my White Macbook Unibody at Apple for $799 + tax = 884! I couldn't be happier. I worked on a macbook the whole of summer last year, so I know the experience. I love the interface, easiness of a Macbook. And, when I found out that Microcenter was selling the White Unibody's for $799 + tax, I immediately called the Apple store in my area. They said they would match the price, and I went right in and got it. I've just had it for less than 8 hours now, but I can already feel the difference. The last thing I need to do is get a good sleeve and, I'm all set.
For those interested in buying the White Unibody Macbook's :
- We have a Micro center store about 50 miles away
- The store clerk checked the Microcenter website, and went ahead to talk to the manager - he approved. I'm not sure if people know about this, but you can definitely give it a try. Also, if you buy it in-store you get to purchase the one-time-only 1-on-1 Apple in-store help for a year at $99. I did not purchase it, but for those considering that might work out even better.

Do you think they would price match a CTO machine?

My two cents. Best MacBook I have owned and I have had three since 2006 (glad they have good resale value)! The screen is just incredible, even though its glossy, the color is outstanding! Everything is great and feels super sturdy. Got it for 799 at microcenter! what a deal

thats exactly what my one did before i returned it. more info in my review which you have commented on

student_trap: I really appreciate your review and I've gotta say I think it was extremely well-intended, but to be honest, portions of it may cause more issues than they resolve. For example the section on the different LCD screens, and their hues. As you mentioned on the other thread, there's nothing that can be done about which LCD you get, so worrying new buyers about which one they have is unnecessary. However, if you want to update the review with the 3rd LCD screen, let me know -- I'm not by my mac right now, but I had the 3rd screen model #.

I personally don't notice any blue hue -- it does put a little strain on my eyes, but I think that's mostly because of how bright it is, not necessarily the hue. There's also a way to tweak this, no?

Thanks for the feedback deraj090. It is much appreciated.

My review was written mainly because at the time that I was purchasing, none of the reviews by mainstream sites were really delving with any significant word count into aspects of the machine beyond its specification. I found this to be particularly frustrating, so I wrote my own to help others.

I have tried to be as unbiased as possible in my inferences, and although this is never entirely possible, I do state numerous times (and in particular with regard to the screen) the context of any particular issues, and how important I regard them to be both for myself, and for others in general.

Regarding my comments of the screen itself, I do specifically mention that it is still a significant upgrade to the previous model. However the issues with the screen are well documented both here at MR, and on apple's discussion forums themselves. For these reasons I thought it best for buyers to be aware of the issues that a number of users have had.

Finally, I would very much like you to add onto the thread the number of the third screen, and also if you feel my comments are too harsh, add your thoughts n the thread itself, as it has had over 4000 views so far and differences in opinion can only leave potential buyers better informed.

Thanks again for your comments

Guys,

Last night I went to my local Apple retail store to compare the current MB and MBP lineups.

I like the MB a lot, and I actually found its display easier on the eyes than that of the MBP.

Some questions tho:

- as I suffer from migraines, how likely is the MB display to trigger a migraine attack (in your opinion, of course), ie. how much of a strain for eyes it really is, and how common it is to get headaches from looking at it ?

- does the rubbery bottom get dirty really easily, and if so, are there ways to clean it up?

- I noticed the MB runs hotter on the bottomside (because the polycarbonate is an insulator while aluminium is a conductor and thus helps in distributing heat). How annoying will this feature become with time?

- I noticed MB feels heavier than MBP, even though according to specs there isn't much difference, 100g or so. Would you consider the difference anyway significant (in your opinion, again).

- Are there any other pros or cons for MB over MBP that you can think ok? (besides the regular stuff of backlit keyboard, SD, FW, better display etc. etc.)

I am sick of waiting for the new MBP lineup and would like to get my Mac now. MB seems like a more sensible option than the MBP line (old one, that is).

Thanks!!

They are not common, but they are suffered by a significant amount of people. The problem is not specific to the macbook display though but many LED backlit displays, so if you have used one without problems in the past you will likely be OK in the future.

It does get dirty, but its the bottom of the computer, I for one don't think that it matters

The MB is actually cooler on the bottom than the MBP. Moreover, the MB is probably the coolest of all current apple laptops. If heat is a problem, go for the macbook

No

student trap,

thanks for your excellent answers and review.

How likely do you see the MB updating this spring with MBPs ?

Well, just upgraded my mb with a
Seagate Momentus 500Gb 7200.4Rpm Hdd

and 2x2Gb Ram..the thing seems so much faster (I suspect I had some issue with the stock HDD,but it was tested and nothing was found).

The bad: vibration of the hdd, the heat when on full usage (it doesn't even come close to most of the laptops out there, but it is warm compared to 5400rpms stock hdd, however on "normal" usage it is cold as the stock hdd, battery loss, haven't tested seriously but in the estimating time I used to get values like 8:30h..now I get 7:30...(I have undervolt on it).
But it is ok for me,the fast it is now I can live with it!I think that it is so much snappier now that I can easily put the processor to use less MHz and change less in Coolbook Controller...
