This is kind of my issue as well...except the AT&T rep that I spoke to had no idea there were any issues and kept telling me there were no issues. She sent me into the AT&T store and by the time I got there they had suspended pre-orders there as well.

*I have a non-iphone (mine was stolen so got a crap phone to hold me over until the new phones came out)
*I HAD a FAN number and took it off yesterday hoping it would solve the problems (obviously it didn't).

The guy at the AT&T store also said there is nothing wrong with my account but gee...still can't preorder on apple.com.

I guess I am going to go early on launch day to AT&T because I am scared to waste my time at Apple and have them run into issues.

I'd be mad if I were you! Get your iPhone stolen and then make plans to get a new one and now you can't because of this ANNOYING error! I'm getting it too. You're not alone. I hope they fix this.

Yeah...Pretty pissed but no one seems to know anything and even if they "fix it" I am still SOL when it comes to a launch day phone.

Same camp here since yesterday. I have a Premier (IRU) account and am trying to upgrade my secondary line (currently non-iPhone/smartphone). I can get through to selecting the phone (at discounted rate) & data plan, and then get that dreaded message.

I went into the local AT&T store this morning (no Apple store nearby) to see if there was anything with the account that might be causing the hang-up, but was told that it looked okay.

Actually he said that the Apple message was probably because of the AT&T side of things, but I'm not sure that's the case. I just tried my primary line (already 3GS) and that does get through to the "Decide where to get your iPhone" page and I can add it to my cart, but it's at the full price! So it seems to me that there's some issue with it being the secondary line?

I'm trying on my mom's primary line (non-iPhone) and still getting the message. I tried on my sister's account which is secondary and an iPhone 3GS and I got through and it could add it to the cart. Then I tried my line which is secondary and also an iPhone and got the add to cart button.

Interesting. Maybe it's not a secondary line issue, but just an AT&T issue (like the AT&T guy said?). I was just talking to an Apple rep and he thought the reason the upgrade wasn't going through was because it was requiring a service change through AT&T (adding data plan, etc.). My primary line (3GS) is able to go through because it doesn't require any service changes (non-subsidized price)

Drat. :(
 
I chatted with an apple rep and she told to call AT&T about this message, because this message comes from AT&T, and I shoudl ask why my account won't be verified.
 
Yeah, my sister and I have iPhones, but neither are eligible. I put in my number just to see. I can get the iPhone for $699, then I clicked continue and guess what, I got the add to cart button! My problem is that I'm using my mom's upgrade (she's eligible for $199), but she currently has an LG Vu, so she obviously doesn't have an iPhone data plan. We're all on one Family Plan though! It should still work! My mom is the primary and I'm using her number! :(

I know. I just logged into the AT&T account and it doesn't even let you upgrade to any phone. It just says "How to Upgrade". Once they fully recover and get their crap together, maybe our problem will be resolved! I sure hope so! While everyone is getting their new iPhone 4 on the 24th, I'll be waiting and waiting and waiting. :(:(:(

Sucks, but I guess that's life. I spent hours yesterday trying to get this to work and just feel slightly screwed by Apple/AT&T.

I'm going to try and do the AT&T walk-in method, showing up early. Hope it works out, for all of us! :)

AT&T reps know nothing. They are telling me over and over that nothing is wrong with my account when obviously there is.

I have never tried so hard to give someone money in my life.
 
Everyone should at least try to pre-order (not reserve) through the Apple Store iPhone app if they are getting this message through the website. I kept getting the error online but I had no problem ordering through the app.

Just tap the main banner on the app and you should be set. Slide the agreement slider on the bottom, go back up to the top and tap the blue button which turns green.

yes, this works. i have to now try to make changes to the order but it took it.

I have this exact same issue. I was trying to preorder an iPhone 4 on a family plan with a FAN discount on a secondary line that was eligible for an upgrade....I literally tried all day yesterday (on and off)...no dice. To be honest, I guess this is Gods way of telling me to read reviews of the iPhone 4 and other devices now that its been backordered until 7/14...lol...
 
This is most definitely occurring on additional lines on a Family Plan that do not have a previous IPhone. I have a 3G and was able to order mine yesterday using my phone number (primary line). Trying to order one for my wife who does not have an IPhone results in the unable to complete message. My friend has the exact same plan that I do and was able to order both his and his wife's yesterday. The only difference was the his wife had an IPhone and my wife did not.
I just went to Apple's site and instead of putting my wife's phone number in, I put mine in and voila, I was able to get all the way to the cart page. I haven't ordered it yet because I am unsure what would happen if I have two orders with the same phone number attached to it. Also, she does not need the same type of data and messaging plan that I have (unlimited data and 1500 text messages). I was going to set her up with the 200 meg plan. I suppose I could change that later, but I am leery of two orders with the same number.

I don't understand! I select my storage and color. Then tap continue. Hit replace a phone. Put in all that info. Hit OK. It processes and I get the error. The pop-up comes and it only gives me the option to reserve or cancel. I never see a slider. What am I doing wrong? :(

So I guess people are getting the error via the iPhone app - I don't know what to tell you though. Sorry! :confused:
 
HAHA! I finally got it to go through! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I think the issue was AT&T's servers updating, as I called them 2 hours ago, and they told me that the servers would be done updating in 2 hours, which would be now, and it adds to cart every time! I've never felt so alive!

You are right. Its FINALLY working for me as well. Now to place an order or press my luck with waiting in line....hum...
 
YES! After trying to get this through from the first minute the phones were available, 1am PST, IT FINALLY GOES THROUGH!!!

But at this point I already have a reservation to pick up a phone on launch day, so I'm not ordering one for July delivery.

Good Lord this was extremely frustrating exercise to solve, even though it had nothing to do with anything...
