I have tried the app, but it only lets me choose to reserve at a store. It may be because I'm a new customer, I'm on a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone, or both. Who knows.
 
Tried again, almost a full 7 days after it went on sale. Still "we were unable to complete set up online." What an absolute disaster.

If you are still having trouble at this point, I would suspect something wrong at your end. I would try it using a different browser or a different computer.

That's the only option you have with the iPhone app.

Not on my end. I've tried 3 computers, 2 Mac, 1 PC. I've tried every conceivable browser. I have zero credit issues that would disallow me to order this phone. And if you read through the thread, I'm not the only one that's still having the issue. I don't mean to be short with you, but I'm just baffled at why this won't work and it's a bit frustrating. Apple Support couldn't tell me a thing, just that "we know some users are having this issue".
 
I had gotten this runaround on the 15th and 16th, preventing me from preordering for launch-day. At that time, it didn't matter where, or what, I used to try and preorder -- several laptops, ipads, work PCs, nothing worked. Just tried again today and now it seems to work fine... A little bummed that I'll be a month late to the party, but relieved nevertheless that I no longer have to worry about trying to wrastle with the drones at the ATT store.

at least it finally worked for you. i just tried again it's still not working. i was able to buy it with the iphone app but it's supposedly shipping July 14th now. So angry i tried to order for 10 hours on pre-order day and now i'm on the 3rd wave of orders....
 
Solution that worked for ME..

Like everyone else, I've been trying to pre-order/order through Apple.com for my boss since the 15th and kept on getting that error message. I've talked to ATT and Apple several times and they somewhat blamed each others' system.

Finally again today I decided to call ATT and they put Apple.com on conference call. The ATT rep remembered that in order for you to order through Apple.com, you must have the following corrected:

- Change your ATT billing address to a physical address only. No PO Box.
- Apple.Com pulls your info directly from your ATT account and will not ship to a PO Box. Hence the need to change your ATT Billing address.
- Have the credit card being used for the payment have the same physical billing address as your ATT account.

You can make these changes temporarily just to complete the order but I think its safe to wait until you get the phone.

Hope this helps out some of you guys.
