You KNOW it's coming. With Angela onboard, that's a given. Hell, Burberry has an Apple Music channel, for God knows what reason. Burberry, Coach, LV... I can, at the very least, see band collections coming - if not the entire package.

Movado and Omega are two of the watches I wear; thinking about it, an Omega-inspired version would be interesting - but ultimately pointless. Same for a Rolex, etc. The Simple face, with no details or complications, is pretty close to my favorite Movado as well.

Here's some of the Burberry watches you can look forward to:

I absolutely agree with you that there's going to be very little interest from the major watch makers in co-branding opportunities. The primarily design movements, and cases, bracelets and bands are not their primary area of expertise, so it makes little sense for them to sell a "Rolex" link bracelet with a matching watch face, especially since it would likely require skueomorph textures to convey the designs, which Jony Ive is absolutely opposed to -- at least until Karl Lagerfeld deems it stylish. Indeed, it's too bad Hermes didn't design their own custom lugs for the Watch, to at least impart some of their design expertise into the watch case itself. As it is, the Hermes bands attach in exactly the same way as they would any other watch. Really boring, yet they get their name etched into the watch case for which they gave absolutely no input.

Yeah, I don't think these branded watches will have any complications other than the date.
By the way, I use the Simple Watch face with all the details on and all four complications, that looks better than the bare Simple face :)
On a Space Black Watch, it's gorgeous. Anyone who disagrees with me is not only wrong, but they're an ISIS supporter, and quite likely racist.

...am I internetting right?

That second watch/band would be the way to go...

Try to remember that it's not an Actual Hermès watch, rather an "edition" of the existing Apple Watch. They just collaborated - which I'm sure didn't extend beyond the inspired watch face and leather bands.

I think Movado could pull off some watch faces; Rolex wouldn't really work for several reasons - what you mentioned, plus the fact that their faces don't really work as well with the black background and border. It'll be interesting to see where they take this, and if faces and bands will be the extent of their variation.

I have feeling that most of the other fashion watch and leatherwork brands will find it more lucrative to simply offer various Apple Watch band options, rather than limit themselves to a limited edition strap that only comes with a watch. The Hermes is a halo product.

I doubt many of the "real" watch companies will offer much at all for the Apple Watch, as they're likely burying their heads in the sand, hoping the smartwatch thing passes (or trying to make their own smartwatch.) Since Movado no longer has much cachet in the horological world, and they're a big target of the Apple Watch's price point, I could see them potentially making a metal band for the Apple Watch, but I still doubt it.

I'll be rooting for more co-brandings just to annoy Mac :D
I'm thrilled for the co-brandings. It means Apple is doing exactly what I said they would do with this product, which is cater to the fashion world, which in turn opens up more sales, provides the consumer with more options, and hopefully the stock goes up too.

But make no bones about it -- this is Apple selling-out their brand to ingratiate themselves into the fashion world. Apple usually dictates terms when they enter into a new market, and letting another company take credit for their work isn't on that list. Then again, Apple wants the Hermes brand name tattooed on their products far more than Hermes wants it there.

Without the accent at 12 I don't think that Apple design looks like a Movado at all.

It's basically the same concept, which is what everyone keeps complaining about with Huawei, no? Apple is clearly ripping off Movado, because nobody ever did a black face with just hands before, right?

Sarcasm aside, I'm not sure why anyone would pay extra to have that little accent at 12, especially since Movado would have nothing to do with the rest of the watch. So there you have it -- it's essentially a Movado. Actually, aside from the hand shape, you should be able to upload a photograph of a Movado watch face to use with Watch OS 2, as a background photo.

People complain about the Huawei because its made of garbage. Whereas the Apple Watch Hermès is made of Barenia leather.

Until I gain the ability to pair multiple apple watches at once I won't be getting the one. I'm a big Hermes fan but I absolutely don't plan to wear it to the gym. I'm rocking the new gold sport with navy strap and like it

Hermès or Apple?

Also, did they give any indication of how many?
Hermès. I didn't ask about the number. I basically got a form letter saying that yes, the watch will be available on the 5th at the Madison Avenue store, and that I should look to the page on the Hermès website for more details.

In addition to the Hermès store, 3 Apple stores (UES, 5th Ave, and SoHo) will have it, so I'm guessing that I shouldn't have a problem with supply.

Why not just swap the band when you are at the gym?

Sadly I just called Hermès Madison and spoke with them directly. They are in fact getting the watch on 10/5, but they've informed me it will be limited.

I have booked my airfare (arriving 10/4) and will be camping out. So I guess I'll see you on Madison, but as we want the same watch we may not be on speaking terms.

I wonder if I'd have a better chance at the UES. Which model do you want? I'm eyeing the 38mm Single Tour in fauve.

Did they give any indication of what "limited" meant? Apart from the scarves, that's one of the least expensive items they have in the store, so everything is in "limited" quantities. Something tells me that they don't expect a long line of "tech geeks" camping out. The Maxfield situation was different back in April since they were one of the few stores that had the Apple Watch at all.

I am eyeing the 42mm Single Tour in fauve - so we're ok.

No. They gave me no idea what 'limited' meant, and I imagine it means something different to them than it does to you and I.

They suggested I go to the Miami boutique and pointed out, as they did, that it would be available there 'early November'. I said I couldn't wait that long, and she responded with a knowing laugh from experience of dealing with 'demanding' clientele. Thankfully I'm not on a waiting list for a Kelly bag!

I don't see Omega ever collaborating and here's why. Omega has one of the best movements in the world. When you think Omega you think movement - their faces and their bands are secondary. Way down the list secondary.

Movado is more of a fashion watch - not much in the way of precious metals or advanced movements. It does have a signature face, however ... but round.

I think in the way of collaboration you're going to see it done with companies for whom watches are a secondary product ... an accessory. Other leather goods companies like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Coach, etc. Perhaps a jewelry manufacturer like Tiffany & Co. that would feature a sterling silver band.

But if a company's first (or only) product is watches I can't see them doing this.

How true... My Omega Planet Ocean GoodPlanet GMT edition is a piece of art. The co-axial movement is even more.

Hopefully it doesn't mean they have just 1-2 of each model on hand. Maybe I'll try the UES. It opens an hour earlier than the Hermès store and is just a bit further north.

Why would I bother doing that, I like having the sport for the gym, I don't want a stainless heavier model for the gym
Not only that, but then the thing that actually makes it a Hermes won't be a part of it anymore. ;-)

Apple has to enable multiple watch pairings, otherwise they are just leaving money on the table.

Well Tim Cook said the Edition would be very limited, but it's still selling with no end in sight. Here's the question: Has Hermes been cranking out leather bands since the launch, and they were just waiting for the right moment to launch? Or did they just go into production this month? If the latter, then I can see supplies being restricted in the same way the Watch launch was itself. On the other hand, the exclusive boutiques like Maxfield in LA had plenty of inventory for their clientele. I'm sure Hermes will be prepared ...

Yeah, being someone who loves and wears Swiss mechanicals, I assumed I'd be all over the analog faces when I bought an Apple Watch. To my surprise, there's something about the link bracelet with the "modular" display in red (with the center display section off) that has a masculine, futuristic design that I'm drawn too. It slightly reminds me of a cool, old Pulsar.

I'm not sure I even care about more analog-style face options, unbelievably, and I'd imagine you're right about complications on designer faces.

I'd be surprised if the Hermēs watch lacks the other Apple Watch faces, does anyone know if this is the case?.. I thought the faces were exclusives, not limited to.

I like the modular as well, but I prefer it in blue.

On the other hand, I found myself rotating amongst the different faces several times a day.. Modular is a good default though.

I assumed that the Hermes has all the faces, but I don't know.

Here is a square Movado Luma begging to become an Apple Watch.

M1_2.jpg

Movado is the corniest brand ever... they're nice watches for people who don't know about watches and are upgrading their fossil. I'd rather have a G shock... Those are great and functional for a great price.

And Omega known for movements? Really? They don't have one in-house made movement... They're all Quartz or based (lightly modified) on the ETA 2892. Omegas are known for decent divers and James Bond... Look at a Zenith of Lange movement and you'll see what I mean... Boner time!

I'd take an Oris, Helson, Dievas anyday over an Omega (except Ploprof). Porsche design has some bad ass models recently too! Then you got Panerai (my fav... Best balance of form and function), Hublot and IWC (boner). Oh and Bell and Ross! Would LOVE to get a BR01... Sigh... Anywho, end rant.

Sorry... Watch snob here. Lol

The Hermes watch is cool... I can 100% appreciate the craftsmanship you're getting in that strap and the face is dope. Wish other watch companies would design apple faces that we could pick from...

Omega movements were lightly modified ETA 2892 until the early 2000s, then they were highly modified ETA 2892s with the co-axial escapement. Around 2007, they introduced an entirely new co-axial movement that only they use, the 8500 caliber, and it is certainly as good as it gets among mass produced movements. It's obviously no Patek Phillipe, but you're behind the times on Omega, and they've leveled the playing field with Rolex, if not surpassed them, in the movement department.

I do agree about Movado, though.
