At every, single, new iPad release.

@Faelan

I agree 100%.

I have an IPad 4 and the screen is perfect. Almost all the iPad Air 2 I saw in the Apple Store (about ten) had a more bad screen. More precisely: two was good, three so and so, and five no good (like the one in you pic or more bad).

As if someone could judge screen quality in an Apple Store......

----------

Nonsense. That screen is not acceptable on a 500+ dollar/euro device. I would change it. Really sad that we're still having this screenlottery with every model introduced. Really fed up with it. Here's hoping Apple switches to oled screens so this issue becomes a thing of the past.

That screen seems just perfectly working, judging by the photo...

It tells me a lot about picky users verging OCD on this forum....
Then... enjoy seeing a dust (or dusts) with the "ancient", yellow tone when you are reading anything static on a $499+ device, when you can essentially buy a white label device with tons of similar or even worse issues to do the same job - at a way lower price tag. For such a device with a normal reading distance close to smartphone, these are hard to be cheated as "non-existence" from your eyes (or just some others' and mine, if you disagree or you are the lucky one, hopefully).

Now you talk sense !!

unless the screen is drastically evident of showing some arbit colours, the kind of screen that the OP has it is a inherent feature/quality of the IPS Display Screens that Apple chooses to use. One must understand, that is how these screens are ? That is their quality, feature. No matter one changes hundred screens it is not going to be like impeccable.

It May/Can change if apple shifts from IPS display screens to OLED.

Well thank you.

It's not the nature of the beast. The screen of my ipad 3 looks much better than that of OP. And so does my rMini (that I had to change because of this issue). And both have IPS. Maybe Apple shifting to one backlight instead of two has something to do with it, but that's no excuse. If they're not able to consistantly get the same quality display with one backlight, they should stay away from it.

are you a stockholder trying to get some profit or why an earth are you defending a company?? naming people is childish...

I didn't name anyone.
Do you feel involved in my definition?

I'm not a shareholder, I'm just am happy customer. I'm "defending" a company that just released the best tablet I've seen so far.

Except I've yet to see something like that on any iPad I've seen so far.

sorry, but all those pics looks awful and i bet they look even worse irl than a pic.

The one Traverse has doesn't look that bad to me. Not perfect but certainly not awful. The one Rocket Man has is really bad. It certainly shows the variety in screenquality.

It indeed is the lottery again. I could try my luck but I don't like that feeling when I'm spending big. I really want to upgrade my ipad 3, but I don't want a screen that I'll enjoy less than the one I have right now. The problem doesn't seem as widespread as last year. I'm going to wait and see how it is on newer batches. If it's not better, maybe I'll wait for the Air3. Then again, maybe I'll play the lottery.

Owned every iPad except the iPad 2, that being said,
The Air 2s screen that I have is immaculate! No book spine, no distortion while holding the back, no yellow screen, and not a to cool hue, just right. :apple:

The body of the Air 2 is in perfect shape as well. I've seen someone with dings and dents in theirs, out of the box!

My screen is very close to perfect. I'd say it's 99% of an ideal 100%
Thee only slightly darker side is a 1mm thick patch to the left side that I can't even notice when I'm not focusing on it hard.

My first and last iPad before the Air 2 was an iPad 2 which had a large reddish area on the bottom

Then you should be glad, because there are always people with different level of tolerance seeing issues. Frankly speaking, even if you don't see any, it doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. So please don't blame the victim.

On my fourth - all unacceptable

one from Apple and three from best buy, each with worse book spine, often reaching into left third of screen. The floor models I have seen at BB are even worse. I am about to give up. Not paying to upgrade my hardware but downgrade my user experience. Current Air looks much better than any of the Air 2s I have had.

So my second Air 2 has less pronounced color shift(enough for me to settle with) but it has dust particles under the glass... So back it goes. I've never ran into this problem with an iPad before and it feels like Apple's screen Q&A (if it even exists) has gotten worse and worse. We are not getting the premium hardware we pay top dollar for.

Me here too on to my third Air 2 first one had dust second had around 7 stuck pixels and dent in sim card tray.
Third iPad coming this wednesday hope it problem free.

*raises hand*

My 1st Gen Air had a yellow strip on the bottom when viewing landscape.

So far, my iPA2 is perfect, albeit warmer than my iP6. I just love how solid the screen feels compared to the 1st gen when tapping it.

Sorry. I'm still thinking most of the complaints (most, not all) are from people just "too picky", to use a polite term, that wouldn't never be satisfied.
I've been around for a while, and I know this forum quite well.
My personal opinion, but I'm entitled to have one.

It still is a consumer grade device. A good one, but still a consumer grade device.
I don't know about your iPad, but generally speaking that kind of devices can't have an 100% defect free QC.
There are production tolerances, and I'm quite sure many (most?) of the units reported as defective in a forum like this, for several reasons, are well within tolerances.
The good news for you is Apple would accept your return no question asked.

Im not too picky. I own Oneplus One, and it has light yellowish glow on the bottom of the screen. Hard to see, but i can see it because i know it is there - i had to show it to my bf, because he didnt see it at first. Does it bother? Yes abit, but not much because i was able to "fix" it by an application which changes the colour hue just a little bit to make the area of the yellowish glow to look normal with the rest of the screen. But because it is there and i know it, im not 100% satisfied. I could have returned it back, I even contacted the customer support, but then I decided to keep it, because it is only visible in certain circumstances: low screen brightness and certain colours of the background (light gray and whitish). Using the app, i dont see it anymore in these circumstances either. Minor issue with the tiny area of the screen (and if i used screen navigation buttons, the issue would be covered by the buttons). I dont complain, 64gb storage, high specs and great phone just for 299euros... but that is the different story and the device came from a small startup company - not from a big company being dacades in the business... Do i need to say, that my Note 10.1 has a great screen althought the device is already over two years old and never heard complains about the screen of that device. If i buy Air2 (cell, 128gb) it would cost 829 euros, and i certainly expect to get better quality than seeing still the same old issues that were already years ago in old lcd screens. Hey, we are living a year 2014! Apple could move forward too to the same year and please no more excuses... It seems to be that Apple uses that kind of tech which maximizes their profits and keeps people barely satisfied (imo). I would be pretty mad if my mbpr display had any yellow tint or bookspines!

I had Air1 which I sold on summer. I was too disappointed. When it was released, there were lot of software issues, rebooting was fixed finally, crashing was left, some apps closed from time to time, safari was a big mess and it still is, memory low warning messages werent anything new... So i sold it and waited to see air2 and hoping to see more ram. Yeah, it got it! Hooray! But more memory wasnt the only thing it got, it also got other issues...

And the bad news, we dont have Apple stores here, so i cannot just buy, try and return. Retailers wont accept returns... To me it is a game of a lottery and luck when playing with Apple (on year 2014!!).

No offense intended, but a discussion with you is useless from my point of view.
Someone owning an Oneplus One, who consider the Note 10.1 a good tablet, is very very far from my concept of good user experience.
You spoke about devices I wouldn't use as doorstop....
Different people, different tastes.

yes, the user experience is very important, and it was exactly the reason i sold my air1.

and what comes to oneplus one, my experience is very positive - abit disappointed to the screen as i said - but i was positively surprised that the phone has no other issues (i know there is problem with at/t in usa). At first i was abit concerned to be as "a beta tester" and buy a cheap phone, but so far all has been good and getting even better: the cam app was updated and nowadays it takes raw images =) even me, who likes to take shots, go photographing and bought many lenses for my camera, is amazed the quality and options. but to be honest, i feel all cams of phones are still "not so good" and they never can be either - but im compairing them to a real camera with real (Canon L) lenses... for the most purposes, they are fine enough though...

a taste or an attitude?

A taste.... definitely a taste.

A sponsor provided several Note 10 for us.... well I won't touch that device another time in my life (at least in the near future).

and what is the reason for that other than an attitude? note10.1 was probably the best tablet Samsung had and the tablet is still great after two years... their Note serie has been popular since the first one and still doing well.

This last iPad I've received seems to be a keeper. The display doesn't suffer from any backlight bleed (none of the Air 2's did), hot or pink corners (last one had it), dead pixels or dust under the screen (that's an instant return). There might be an ever so slight color shift (yellowing) but it is by far the faintest one I've encounters on all iPads I've dealt with and I've had many going back to iPad 3. Definitely a keeper! It just took several exchanges... My nearby Apple stores replaced all the "defective" ones quickly and without any hesitation or arguing so I guess kudos for Apple for standing behind the quality of their products.

I see nothing wrong with your photo.. There is no such thing as a perfect LCD screen.. Blah blah (insert we pay x money, we deserve perfect cliche statement). Whitescreen uniformity? When do you need white screen uniformity by the way? Looking for problems purposely, yes I do believe you are.
