I'm on to my fourth iPad air 2.
Each iPad i recently received had dust under screen and stuck pixels horrible quality control going to give it one more try before asking for a refund.

No screen problems so far for me. I am on my second iPad air 2 since the first one had the home button sticking out.
The second one seems to be perfect, it does have some backlight bleeding at 100% but its totally acceptable.
I have played the exchange lottery and it's not fun. You get one with a scratch, the next one has a dead pixel, next one has dust under screen, next one is yellow/pink, next one has raised home button etc.
Unless the problem is very sever just enjoy the device and don't go OCD like I used to, it's just not worth it.

UPDATED: Decided I will not follow my own advice and play the lottery once again since I couldn't live with the backlight bleed. Took a photo (see below) to show a genius and as usual with their amazing customer service they gave me a new one on the spot. Just setting it up now and it has no backlight bleeding or other screen issues. I never seem to have these problems with iPhones or Macs (apart from once), just with the iPads (iPad mini 1st gen, iPad Air and now iPad Air 2).
However just dealing with Apple costumer support once again made me realise, even if Apple is not always perfect, that they are the best. I couldn't imagine how this would have been handled if it was an OEM, oh the horror.

That sucks, I haven't had an apple device with stuck pixels in years, if ever. Do you actually run a dead pixel test or is it noticeable right away?
How do you check for dust under the screen, you put it up a light bulb to check for it? That would seem excessive even for a perfectionist like myself. My issues/nitpicks with iPad screens is mainly backlight bleeding, I only had one iPad that had the yellow/pink hue problem.

On my fifth try, I finally hit the jackpot. No book spine, no yellow tint, no dead pixels or dust under the screen. Just a beautifully uniform screen. I'm very relieved and happy to finally be free of the iPad return cycle. :D

I got it on three, hahah.
First had raised home button (with a great screen)
Second had alot of backlight bleeding
Third is perfect (now I haven't checked for dust, but I haven't noticed anything so I'm good to go. Not gonna check with a flashlight for it)

When you say dust under screen, was it very obvious on the once you had?
The return cycle sucks so much, especially after the first one, I always feel like an idiot coming back for the 2nd or 3rd time. :D

I have major ocd and every apple product I have ever purchased has been perfect in every way no distortion issues as well.

My screen is perfect. It's an even white all around with no book spine either. I'm amazed at how nice it is, however it came out of the box with a tiny little chip on the chamfered edge. I don't think I'll be returning it just for that because I don't want to risk getting a bad screen on a replacement.

You're right, guys. The CPU is on the right side of the screen. I had [yet another] brain fart. LOL

So maybe it's not CPU heating the screen as much as the battery?

After last year's Air nightmare, my Air 2 is perfect on the first attempt. Gorgeous and even display without bleeding or dead pixels.
And for those people who say you don't feel a difference in performance, I genuinely feel, especially with safari and browsing. My Air was lagging like crazy (even under iOS 7 it wasn't as fluid as the iPad 4 on iOS 6).

It feels like the Air 2 is definitely the iPad to keep for a few years: ideal form factor and ideal performance. That said, I'll refrain from updating to iOS 9 straight away. Haha. I want to hol on to the amazing fluid experience I'm having at the moment.

Received my Air 2 64g Cellular yesterday and it is perfect. No screen distortion or any other of the reported issues. Does do the vibration thing at higher volumes but a non issue for me.

So far I had four iPad Air 2 with bad screens:
First one: slightly yellow tint on lefthand side and dust under screen (could be damaged glass, too!?!)
Second: extreme book spine and strong yellow tine on lefthand side
Third: Very strong yellow tint on lefthand side AND bottom
Fourth: Yellow tint on lefthand side and a severe red hue on bottom

Last year I kept my iPad 2 after having seen 3 very bad iPad Air 1 screens. Don't know how long I will play the lottery this year...

Until Apple switches to OLED you're going to have to play display lottery with LCD to find one with acceptable backlight bleed, unifomity, non-yellowing, no bad pixel, etc. but there will always be the gray as black issue. That's just the nature of LCD in general.

It looks fine to me. All LCDs have some sort of uniformity issues as that is the nature of backlight but some have it minimal and some have it extreme. Your's looks fine to me and I guess that if I put a picture in photos app on then you won't be able to see it at all. Or you often stare at blank white canvas? :D :D :D

You need your eyes checked his screen is terrible and he should take it back. Lots of apps have white backgrounds. You put up with a substandard device that you pay a premium for is bizarre behaviour, Big corps must love people like you "Well I paid more than any other tablet and got a substandard device but meh, I wouldn't want to cause a fuss" CEO's laughing all the way to the bank.

I predict that the OP will never be happy.

I predict you will buy a Bridge from London.

I received my LTE iPad air 2 and I prefer the "cool" blue tint of my iPad air instead. The air 2 doesn't have yellow tint but it's not as clear as my other iPad. Wondering it I should take my chances and exchange it.

Here are some pics, one with flash and one without. The pics make the ipad Air 2 look more yellow than it really is but the comparison with my air 1 which is on the right is noticeable.

Should this be acceptable or should I exchange? Makes it more difficult since I purchased from Verizon..

I've gone through 5 iPad Air 2, and I decided to settle with my current iPad Air 2 Gold 64 GB Cellular (the 5th one). This iPad is almost perfect: It has blue tinted screen (cool color tone) instead of pinkish tinted as others. I extremely hate pinkish tinted (warm color tone) screen. This was one of the reasons I exchanged iPad 3rd 13 times in 2012. iPads 3rd were pinkish, yellowish, dead pixel, light blessing, etc.

My 1st iPad Air 2 Gold 64 GB Wifi Only, which was the one I was eager to get at my nearest apple store 2 days before the store officially sell iPad Air) was warm color tone, and it has shadow along the left side (called book spine).

My 2nd iPad Air 2, also Gold 64 GB Wifi Only, was the one I pre-ordered on apple.com on 10/17. Its screen was almost perfect: uniform cool white, nonexistent book spine. I should have kept this iPad if I had not changed my mind paying the difference ($130) to get a cellular version.

My 3rd iPad Air 2, or rather my 1st iPad Air 2 Gold 64 GB Cellular, was quite bright, but it was also too warm. It looked pinkish.

I stayed with the 4th one only 15 minutes, and I immediately came back the apple store to return it. After I came home, I purchased the 5th on apple.com on Wednesday 11/05 and I received it on Friday 11/07. It looks perfect with blue tinted screen.

Finally, the 2nd and the 5th are perfect because both of them are "DM" while others are "DL". My nearest apple store and bestbuy have only DL, so their prototypes look quite pinkish. I guess there are various display suppliers (LG,Samsung, Toshiba, Sharp..), and DM and DL use completely different supplies.

If you want to buy an iPad Air 2, get a DM one

Hey Folks,

I had to have my iPad replaced after finding a dead pixel that I missed when I got mine after release. My original one was a DLX. The replacement is a DMQ, which indicates probably later production. The new one has MUCH less blue tinting on the right so it's more even tone across the whole screen. It's not perfect but it's LCD technology so I understand the limitations of the tech.

As someone who played the LCD lottery 5 times with my iPad 3, I got lucky the 2nd time around. I know the serial numbers may not mean much but it may perhaps indicate a different batch of panels from a different vendor. Just a wild guess on my part. Best wishes!

I also played the exchange/return lottery with my iPad 3rd 2 years ago, and last year I settled on the 3rd iPad Air (the 1st iPad Air 1 purchased at apple store while the 2nd and 3rd ones at bestbuy). Most of defective iPads were DY and DL, and especially DL iPads are ussually pinkish tinted screen. Undoubtedly, my kept iPad 3rd and iPad Air 1 were DM in ones.

This year, my 2nd iPad Air 2 ,which was Gold 64 GB Wifi Only, was DM one. I should have kept it if I had not changed my mind to get a Cellular version. My nearest apple store do not have DM, so they exchanged it with DL iPad Air 2 Gold 64 GB Cellurlar. Both of them were terrible.

To people who are about to get an iPad Air 2:
You should all purchase on apple.com if your local apple stores do not have DM.

Mine looks perfect to me, really happy. I always seem to have issues with dead pixels and what not with my electronics, but not this time.
