I bought it on on line apple store and no apple store where I live. It would thereby mean to try the lottery of the replacement units sent directly by apple and that I would discover only after unpacking it. I can stand with it at the end as i rarely set more than 50%brightness, as it is only noticeable on black and as there is no dead pixel on this screen (i would never accept dead pixel).
I am interested into knowing how many people have an almost no backlight bleed screen as i fear that, also because of LCD technology, it would be more probable to have one with than without.
Thanks

Do you have a perfect white screen?Because when I read an ebook a portion of the screen is a different type of white.
Do all iPads have variation in whiteness? Or a portion of the screen will always be a different white?

White is not perfectly uniform but nothing to see with the backlight visible on black. My white screen is similar to the picture posted in previous page.

I have not had any backlight bleed or dead pixels on any of my iPads (6), including the Air 2 and I do check for this. However I have returned iPads for yellow or uneven tints on the screen. One thing to consider before returning your device is not only the possibility of getting another with backlight bleed but getting one with any number of other defects. My Air 2 has a very slight "bookspine effect" but a great screen otherwise and I am keeping it. If you are unhappy with your screen however, I would return it and try for a better one. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks a lot for your kind advise. Would you mind posting a picture of your ipad air2 black screen at 100% brightness, similarly to mine? Thanks.

Okay thanks. Also is the white color on your entire screen completely even?Mine is slightly pinkish white in areas but dont know if thats normal

Dark screen pictures

Would you guys mind posting pictures of your ipad air 2 screen with a black background? It is just a matter of seeing how your screens are. I think of being able to stand with my current ipad as not really bothered by it in normal usage, but I would like to understand how much better other screens are, effectively.
Thanks for your kind help.

P.S. I have opened this specific thread at this purpose

My apologies. It looks like I do have some light bleed. I just checked visually before and didn't take photos. I couldn't get rid of the white bar at the top so their are 2 photos of the iPad from both up and down. My white screen looks even to me except for a very slight "bookspine" on the left in portrait screen. Hope this helps.

My air 2 has a perfect screen and is a 128gb cell space gray version. I watched a movie on it in the dark and no light bleed and no dead pixels. Think I got lucky!

First 2 Airs had that dark left edge (book spine) but the third was perfect. Probably the best display I've had in the 6-7 iPads I've owned. No bleed, no tint, and not a hint of dark shadows on edges. Finally. Getting really tired of having to do this every time I upgrade.

My "black" screen pic. I can take others if folks can post tricks on just how to do it! ha.

My Air 1 had the bookspine effect fairly noticeably, but it wasn't really that big a deal and I never bothered returning it. My first Air 2, however, had it to a much greater extent, and unevenly so -- the discoloration down the left side was splotchy and inconsistent, impossible to ignore -- so yeah, this time I took it in for exchange. The replacement, fortunately, is near-perfect. Based on what others have posted here it sounds like I got lucky.

I just bought mine from apple HQ in Cupertino. Got a pretty good screen. Only a small amount of distortion when pressed near the apple logo. No distortion near the bottom right. The ipad Is a DM model. 16gb WiFi.

What is the website that you can check out when the ipad was made???

I pressed hard but my December iPad Air has no distortion or uniformity issues with the screen.

Maybe Apple silently fixed the problems or it was some major initial batch problem.

you confirm, no distortion when pressing from the back ?
thanks

No issues of any kind with mine, it's as perfect as humanly discernible. 128 LTE model.

And this "screen distortion" stuff has my shaking my head, I can't do anything remotely normal to the thing to make it act as described by some here. Under what circumstances would someone press hard on the back of the thing while using it?

the same people who put set their screens to solid colors, examine them for pixel and backlighting problems. None of it affects normal use.

Many iPad Air 2 units do not have to be pressed hard on the back to see screen distortion – some can see it by simply walking around with it. (See video on other thread.)

Only if you are a typical MR forum user looking for flaws where there aren't any.....

I'm not the one keep returning units.....

Actually in more than 24 years as Apple's customer I've returned just one product (an iPod that was basically DOA).

If a unit is defective it deserves to be retuned. When paying a premium price, customers deserve better. Why settle for backlight bleed, screen distortion, yellow screens, or excessive vibration? If you are happy, fine – just don’t tell others that known problems simply do not exist.
