I'm glad to see there are some people (though we're probably an extreme minority) that also don't drink. All of my friends at University are into getting drunk.

that's sad. and my school has a ban on alcohol on campus, and the drinking rate is still around the same...they just go drink at some of the nearby bars.

I rarely drink, probably don't drink five times in a year. Alcohol was never my preferred method, even when I was practicing.;)

don't drink. for some reason, even get nearing the stuff makes me sick, it's like the smell of beer makes me nauseous at times. i have used wine a couple times in cooking, but that's it. i try to stay at least 5 feet from alcoholic beverages at all times...they turn into trouble.

and on a second note, it seems like we're seeing lots of teens and young adults drinking more than ever...sometimes i feel like i'm the only one that doesn't drink at all (i'm 21 btw). i blame too many beer endorsements in sports that make it seem like beer is this magical elixir. i would scale beer ads way back, i think that would cut the amount of drinking we see now.

There are so many unfair generalizations in this comment it's astounding.

1) Alcoholic beverage consumption doesn't *necessarily* "turn into trouble." For people who don't understand their limits or drink to get drunk, it might, but people who can casually enjoy drinking, it's not a problem and it won't turn into trouble.

2) IMO, you see teens and young adults drinking for two reasons, 1- it's a rebellious thing ("Mom and Dad said don't do it, well I'll show them...blah blah blah"), and 2- it's because we as a society have vilified drinking to the point where teens think they're missing out on something. Go to Europe (and I'm thinking of Sweden in particular here because I have Swedish friends), where they teach their children how to drink it responsibly and you don't see quite the same level of problems.

3) There's nothing wrong with the amount of drinking that goes on now; yes, some people can't handle their liquor responsibly. Others can. Such is life.

If you ask me, we need to get away from this idea that the way we treat "bad" things is to shield our kids from it and move to a method of showing them how to handle the responsibility.

I basically drink on special occasions only; I see no appeal in getting drunk, and I just don't like the taste of alcohol. Also, being poor college student, drinking is expensive!

I drink when I go out but I don't do it with the intention of getting drunk as I've learnt from experience that bad things happen whilst drunk therefore never again.

:D

Moderate alcohol consumption (1-2 drinks/beers/glasses of wine) per day is healthy to the vast majority of people.

You should not deny yourself an entire world of delicious alcoholic beverages because of misguided beliefs that it is unhealthy. There are literally thousands of different types of beer, wine, and liquors that people should experience at least once in their lifetime. Like the 500+ different types of Belgian beer, the thousands of different types of French wine, and the hundreds of types of Scotch single malt whiskey.

You shouldn't drink to get drunk, but neither should you not enjoy alcohol because you "should not drink".

Hear hear! Well said, indeed.

i didn't drink alcohol for a long time.

but i slowly came around and decided to try it. and while ive only ever been drunk once or twice, its not something that i ever aim for. one or two drinks here and there are good for me. helps me relax if i'm stressed out and all that.

I definitely do not not drink...

I'm a beer snob and seldom drink liquor (though I do enjoy quality Bourbon and single malt Sotch now and again). Lately I've been drinking more, though I do not get drunk very often - a couple pints at the brewpub on Fridays, and a bottle for dinner now and then.

I've never gotten so drunk I blacked out or did something I regretted later, though I've had my share of hangovers and "bottle flu"...

I am allergic to alcohol.

When I drink it, my body metabolizes it diffently than normal people.

I have been known to dissapear for days on end after a few drinks.

That was then.

AA is now, and its going great.

Happy, joyous and free.

Ditto here. On special occasions, like a trip to the Portuguese restaurants of Newark, I'll have a few glasses of Sangria. I like a pint of Guinness, but it's been ages.

Too many calories and it makes me drowsy.

I think that the responsible consumption of alcohol is something to be enjoyed, not vilified. I like wine with dinner, a beer while watching a game, and cognac/scotch when hanging out with friends or as a digestif. No problems for me, and I happen to like the taste very much!

Drinking for the sake of getting wasted I would say is not a very good idea, although if it's once in a blue moon will probably cause no lasting harm (no driving, obviously).

It's all about moderation and being responsible.

I <3 Remy Martin, Fat Tire, Oban, and Cheval Blanc :).

I don't drink. For one, I have an addictive personality, and I could easily see myself being an alcoholic. There's a history of alcohol/drug abuse on one side of my family, I'd rather not even begin by putting it to my lips...

On average I might have 1-2 beers per week. Typically on Friday nights after the work week is through and I sit back to play some games or watch some backlogged TV.

I've been on a self imposed hiatus for the past 3-4 weeks awaiting the birth of our second daughter (at least the sonographer seemed pretty confident of 'girl' status). I figure a few weeks without beer is easier than the stories that could forever circulate that I was "drunk" or smelled like beer for the birth of our second child.

It's only sad since about the time I stopped drinking I found a Leinenkugel beer sampler pack at Sam's club. Being from WI originally and often longing for tastes of home it was a great find and unfortunately has been just sitting in the pantry awaiting a day when I can sample the sampler.

At the rate of 1-2 per week I think I've got nearly a 6 month supply of beer sitting at home. It's not like I drink to get drunk (anymore) I actually enjoy the taste and it can be especially nice after a hectic work week or a long day of hard work outside.

I'm the person that watches my friends get hammered, i dont belive in the whole puking thing... that is way past the line, I know where my put that thing down point is and i rember that (Every now and then I pass it alittle bit and spend the night at a friends house) Ya i have maybe dranken 7 times since summer, i think i am responsible when it comes to this stuff. Alchol is a thing todo after i long year or hard hard hard hard hard hard hard hard hard hard hard week, but never i never drink just for the hell of getting trashed

and ps who ever said parties suck and small groups rock, I agree, nothing like that picture of u with a dick drawn on your face while passed out to ruin your future :p

It's not that I don't drink any, but I generally don't drink very much. I'll have a beer or two on the weekends, or at a get-together with friends and family, but I haven't been drunk in a long time. I don't like to lose control, I guess.

I don't drink very often at all, I'm certainly not a casual drinker and don't do it on my own unless its something weak like a pear cider usually. When I do drink however I tend to drink a fair amount. I'm not one of those who avoids getting drunk, I actually pursue it, in a relatively controlled environment of course. Why? Cause its fun. And I enjoy the feeling. Not to mention it makes for some very interesting stories the next day.

I don't drink very often at all. I might have a beer or two at a barbecue for example. In general I only really drink at parties, or on nights out.

Funnily enough I used to be 'straight edge', or thats how some of my friends labeled me anyway - to be honest, I just never fancied drinking.

I for one NEVER EVER EVER drink alcohol... with my breakfast. :D

All other times are fair game though. In all seriousness, I dont drink a lot but when I do, I tend to over do it a bit. Otherwise why bother?
