Not me, I'm 13. :D

But I like the smell of bear. That's quite different from some other people that posted here..

I love beer. Good beer.

I really enjoy drinking responsibly. I never have more than a drink an hour and usually only a few at a time. Sometimes I'll drink a few nights in a row, sometimes not for weeks. I haven't got really drunk in a few years now actually. I really don't like getting obliterated.

I just love beer though. I am an IPA aficionado. I also love wine. I've been trying to lay off the beer recently because I'm gaining a little bit of weight around the mid section. Its kind of weird. I'm 6ft and 170lbs. I have no fat on my body except around this 6 inch vertical area around my mid section.

I used to when I was younger think that drinking was awful. Thats because drinking to get drunk is awful. Plus at that age everyone is drinking complete crap. A good beer with dinner or at a night out with friends, or a bottle of wine with your lady/guy is fantastic.

Drinking isn't "bad" for you like people make it out to be. It might be bad for you in larger amounts. But everyone knows a glass of wine is good for you. A beer is no worse for you than a mocha from starbucks which has literally 3-5 times the calories and sugar. Drinking however is bad if you drink large amounts at a time and or drink and do irresponsible things like drive. Thats just plain stupid.

I'm not a beer person, then again most of the beer that's available here is utter crap. If I want bread I'll make a sandwich.

Wine is OK, although I do find it hard to find one that doesn't commit assault & battery on my taste buds.

The steak I made last week marinated with a $275 whisky was absolutely divine.

I'm another college student that absolutely hates drinking. It's dumb, and there is no way that stuff can actually taste good. Alcohol is the worst smelling drink in the world. When I used to work at a gas station, I would always hate cleaning up after the drunk people that dropped bottles of beer on the floor, especially if it was the beginning of my shift. I'd smell terrible the rest of the day.

A big reason I don't drink as well. I'm glad to see there are some people (though we're probably an extreme minority) that also don't drink. All of my friends at University are into getting drunk.

I used to sound EXACTLY like this until I actually tried it. I absolutely love beer. Not Buttwiper or Butt Wipe. GOOD beer. And being drunk is fun sometimes. Moderation is key - as with most anything...

Not to mention it makes for some very interesting stories the next day.

So does "just doing something interesting". I've got friends who lisp to me in wretched breath about their adventures the night before, about smacking people, getting off, pissing against street lamps.
Out last adventure saw us just randomly driving down to the beach on a whim, bought a dinghy and sailed off into the Irish sea. Stone cold sober - remembered every minute of it. Felt like some kind of explorer when all the guys at uni found out about it.

For the folks who don't drink any at all - what do you do to take the edge off 'one of those days'?

A glass of red wine works miracles...

What would I do? Go for a walk, play the piano/guitar. Go out with friends. If none of the above, do something creative like work on one of my developer projects.

I think we should change the title of the thread to "What's your stance on drinking?". then again the same thing happens when there is a smoking thread.

Yeah so? Sometimes I like to do something interesting which involves me getting a bit wasted. Mind alteration is a fun thing to experience if you do it right.

I like the way you drink, erm think!

Go to Europe (and I'm thinking of Sweden in particular here because I have Swedish friends), where they teach their children how to drink it responsibly and you don't see quite the same level of problems.

Holy crap, you've got to be joking. You think the Swedes are responsible drinkers? If you had said the French or the Italians, I would agree whole-heartedly, but the Swedes? Northern Europeans are the worst. Unlike in the States where it's more limited to college-aged kids, they binge drink commonly as adults.

A study came out recently about binge drinking in the EU. Ireland topped it with 34% of the population (the entire population) binge drinking. Sweden came in at 16%. Italy and Greece, however, were at the bottom of the list at 2%.

Up until turning 21, I never touched the stuff.

Coincidentally, it was right around this time that I started to feel like I wanted to try some alcoholic beverages - not to get drunk, but just to enjoy because I've always heard that many of them were very good tasting. And they are. ;)

Now, I won't say that since turning 21 a few months back I haven't been completely wasted once or twice. I will say, however, that I'm learning my limits quickly, which is the other reason I started drinking. I feel like the "trouble" starts when people do not know, or choose to ignore their limits and take things too far, so I'm glad that I'm beginning to learn how to know where to draw the line so that I don't become that person that makes an ass of himself at every social event he attends.

Nowadays, I drink on a weekly to bi-weekly basis and rarely have anything more than a couple bottles of Mike's or Smirnoff. Never anything really hard.

There are so many unfair generalizations in this comment it's astounding.

1) Alcoholic beverage consumption doesn't *necessarily* "turn into trouble." For people who don't understand their limits or drink to get drunk, it might, but people who can casually enjoy drinking, it's not a problem and it won't turn into trouble.
....
3) There's nothing wrong with the amount of drinking that goes on now; yes, some people can't handle their liquor responsibly. Others can. Such is life.

Agreed. There are also unfair generalizations about drunks. There's nothing wrong with being drunk IMO. There is something wrong however, with driving drunk or if you're one of those who's a jerk when drunk....

To all those people who said they don't drink because alcohol tastes horrible: TRY IT! I used to say the same, then I said it just about beer (I'm a mixed drinks type) but then I lived in Europe and I'm game for all.

I'm one of those who's studied and worked and so drinking was never part of the picture. But seriously, you're missing out on part of the college experience by not drinking. It's not about being wasted. It's just about loosening up when you're tense or just relaxing on the water/river/beach.

There are nights when you need to "let it out." I remember one occasion where my friends and I were letting off steam with wine and dinner and we met up with other people and I'm sent home at 3AM in a Taxi (only drink with good friends).

I have tried beer, wine, brandy, burbon and all I taste is the alcohol - which I don't like. So, no, I don't drink at all nor have any desire to.

I'm pretty straight edge, no drinking or drugs, still got about 3 years before i can still buy liquor legally though so there is at least some legal reasoning. I've had sips of a few drinks just to see what they taste like when with family, but i never drink at parties or whatever, i can wait a bit still, i just don't really have the interest. Perfect example was this past summer, i was at a bbq with my friend and a friend from work, he's like 40 and telling us "you know guys just go for whatever you want, there's tons of beer and stuff" ... i just wasn't really tempted.
