I know how outdated the MBPs are.

Why do you think they will switch to Radeon?

They offer lower power envelopes and higher performance. I suppose I dont know for sure, but they switched to the 4/5xxx series for the imac and if they DONT upgrade to ati they will continue selling outdated hardware, which isnt Apples style. Apple always offers good hardware when it launches and simply keeps it on the market a little longer than they should.

I wasn't surprised they didn't announce anything today. There was such hype over the iPad it would have been awkward to slip in an update for the MBP. I don't think we'll have to wait too much longer for it -- but it could be up to a month.

I am very disappointed that there has not been a refresh I was so close to owning my first Mac

Why would I be disappointed? I already have a mac and I appreciate using it everyday. I feel like laughing at individuals who watied for the new mac and instead apple introduced ipad.

Its far more than a CPU bump. The next Macbook Pro update will be one of the largest in the product lines history.

The following are almost GUARANTEED to occur:
~25% CPU
~200% GPU
S-IPS Panel on the Pro (currenty uses TN)
ExpressCard slot

Anyone who bought a Macbook Pro in the last 4 months or so WILL feel burned when the new ones come out.

Why would people feel burned? New technology comes out everyday. If you constantly wait for new technology to be released, you will miss out on the technology that is available today. If you keep on chasing new techlology and newet trends, you will feel burned from credit card bills.

Not me,

while folks have been salivating over an arrandale based MBP, I'm content with what I have.

Besides, today's event was for one thing and one thing only, the iPad. Makes sense not to distract from that message with other product announcements.

If anything, we are going to get a silent update.

There's no way apple is announcing/demoing anything publicly until the iPad launches.

I don't think that an upgrade to MBP's motherboard or CPU is the type of event that should be mentioned in media event. They'll upgrade these machines soon, but I don't think it requires presence of any cheerleaders. I'd be surprised if Steve Jobs went on stage to talk about an upgrade that was so insignificant to the future of the product. It's not like they're changing the design of these machines.

I think we will get a silent update and it will come when Apple updates the store. With them expected to ship in 60 days, I bet they will update the store any time now, maybe even within the week? Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they offered preorders sooner than that.

For me, I am going to buy a new one on February 10th. If there is a new one available, I will get that. Otherwise, the current models will do everything I need it to.

No whinny sounds coming from here but I do understand where every one is coming from. I mean after all apple is in very good shape because a lot of us are buying the products in a time when most of the company's are going under.

So a lot of people are expecting more or for apple to at least keep up with the specs. My brother has a dell 17" with an i5 since Christmas on sale at STAPLES for $649 at the time. Just think about it, we got an Ipod touch with no camera. We have no Blu ray, no i5 or i7- I hear about blue tooth 3.0 I just don't see any of it in apple products. It would be nice to get an SSD option for a reasonable price. Funny thing about it is when they give us something they always take something away.

Soooo hang on... What do you suggest for the last 4 months anyone that needed a computer do? Send email via carrier pigeon. You guys live in the bloody clouds, get over yourselves.

I absolutely guarantee to you, I, personally, will not for a whole host of reasons will not feel in anyway "burned" by a future laptop upgrade. I have real things in life to worry about. Even when the new MBP has 200% better graphics. Wow! Omg think of the things Word will be able to do with that.

So I stand by my comment. If you NEED a computer - BUY ONE. If you don't... THEN DONT!

If buying Apple products regardless of their function is your hobby, then do whatever you like.

You must be feeling a right silly billy for waiting when you could have invested in a great bad boy months ago like myself. :D

codo, you got it exactly. Personally, I don't play games on my computers with a few exceptions. None of them require a whole lot of power graphics wise and Spore is probably the highest, and I am pretty sure that will run fine on a current 13" MBP.

Unless Apple sneaks in some big new things (which I don't think they will) then you are missing nothing but a speed bump.

Disappointed? I'm actually more ticked than disappointed. It's obvious that the Macbook Pro should have received updates this month. New Arrandale chips are readily available, (minus ULV) & the 9600GT GPU is several generations out of date.

Beyond this, it seems that Apple has focused more time, energy, and money creating "niche" products, than being serious about being a computer company. Sorry... iPods, iPhones, and iPads are not computers.

Why? NOT waiting, given we "should" be close to a product update, is moronic. The only reason I could see someone purchasing a new macbook today, is because they don't know any better, or because Apple is handing out discounts. (which they obviously never do)

Do you buy a new 2009 hybrid automobile at full sticker price, when you could buy the 2010 model that gets 50mpg instead of 40?

Solid point. Between now and the "60 day shipping date", Apple will want to pre-sell the heck out of the iPad. While I would not rule out a silent release between now and that time frame, it certainly would be in Apple's best interest to wait until after the device ships. If you listened to the event today, Apple truly believes that they are positioning this device as a new option - or competition in some ways - to a laptop. They'll want to show dazzling numbers to support this so the media outlets will report hundreds of thousands of these things being pre-ordered. Even though the MBP refresh is not intended to detract from this audience, it could certainly dilute the interest in the MBP refresh. My bet is sometime in early April.

For now, I'm happy with my Dec'09 purchased 13" MBP with the SSD I added. That will get me through until I can get my hands on the 32GB iPad w/ wifi - just in time for vacation!

iPad ==iYawn

iPad == iYawn
No i7 MBP == No Credit Card outings.

So its a choice between Sony F or custom mnfr to get a proper quad. Jobs might well be a business genius but he does not understand that, for some, mobile computing does actually involve some serious COMPUTING.

Besides, the iYawn does not seem to fit in any of my pockets. :(

I am about to buy my first Mac, but I'm holding off for the new lineup. As sexy as the current one's are, the features that are expected in the next refresh are pretty major.

-40%(or so) increase in CPU power. No need to explain that one.

-IPS display. Finally 8-bit+ color!!! It would be a major improvement over the current Mac Books' TN panel. This would be more exciting to me than a mere resolution boost, as it would make the MBP suitable for color critical work(photo editing, video color grading, etc). Considering that the iPad has an IPS display, we can be pretty confident that the new Mac Books will have them as well.

-GPU upgrade would certainly be welcome. Forget gaming, the real advantage would be seen in CUDA and OpenCL applications. More and more programs will leverage the GPU for greatly increased performance.

I wish I had all the money back over the years that I spent chasing the next "refresh" all in the hopes of more impressive benchmark #'s. I could afford to have Woz personally build me a quad MBP and delivery it in golden chest.</joking>
