just want to add my 2 cents...

People who are waiting for the Macbook Pro "refresh" or "update" really are either people who have bought a mac before or who want seriously want one.

Now getting $1500 is pretty easy, but those who want to get the "high end" selections like the 15 inch to 17 inch macbook pros in which the prices range from $1800-$3500 (including upgrades). Really want something that will last them through some years.

Now don't get me wrong the line up at the moment is very nice and you can probably do many things with it. Though if you have been looking at laptops for quite a while you know that Intel has released the i5, i7 and even i9 chips for laptops, meaning that 2010 will probably hold faster laptops.

Bringing up $2000+ is not something you can do so easily, especially in these times. This quad core update is needed because people who can not spring $2000 instantly want a product that is new and faster than the old line up. So that they remain sort of in the zone, since technology after all is unpredictable ;). Especially those big programs that require a lot of GPU/CPU performance...

And for the 99.9% of people who A) don't know what quad core is, B) Don't know what iX is, C) Didn't know Apple had an event going on today?

Apple still sells macbooks like hotcakes. There is no recession, atleast not in my neck of the woods.

Personally I find it hilarious all the people claiming they are "not disappointed" that have just recently purchased a new Macbook Pro feel the need to chime in and proclaim how "not disappointed" they really are. Hysterical. If they really weren't disappointed they wouldn't feel the need to advertise the fact that they are supremely content with their purchase and denounce the people who've decided to wait for new technology instead of buying a product filled with 2+ year old hardware.

Yeah, satisfied professional users who make a great living with what ever Mac they have on hand should not chime in right? It should be a bitch session only. Get over your tech headed self. The 13" I bought is actually a slower processor than the 15" it replaced. I needed a smaller computer, I get more done on it than the other one I had. If you can wait, then wait, I could not, I did what I needed to do and it was better than waiting, get the picture?

No one is denouncing anyone, you either have a life and get on with it, or in your case, you have your head jammed up the ass of the technological race and don't.

I'm the opposite of disappointed: I am relieved and happy because I went ahead and bought one about 2 months ago not thinking about a refresh :)

And no NOTORIOUS187, I am not disappointed regardless of posting in this thread or not. It does every thing I need it to do, and I don't feel like it needs "more". That was the most ignorant statement I've ever heard. I am seriously posting this because I am not truly satisfied? lol..

Thank you for proving my point. Perfect example here folks. This user is delusional and feels the need to justify his purchase by attempting to insult others who make wiser decisions.

I WANT a new one now. I don't pay for my own. My employer writes it off. But I'm not going to bother with an incremental upgrade of the venerable Core2 processor. It's not even worth transferring my files off my current MBP for the stuff they have out now.

If you WANT one, then go by one. If you don't want to border ....etc, then you probably don't need one. It's very simple and straight forward. What part of this do you not understand.

It is extremely rare that people NEED a new computer RIGHT NOW. It's just a process of becoming more and more difficult to get by. Even if your personal laptop dies, you can usually get by either with an older computer you've shelved, or your work computer, or whatever.

So unless there is something huge in the immediate future (exactly what would qualify I can't see) waiting two weeks is obviously the best choice, as obviously the next MBP will be vastly superior to the present.

If your work requires you to have a computer and the one you have just RIP, then you will NEED a new one RIGHT NOW. If you have a spare one and you can get by it, then you do not need one RIGHT NOW. It's very straight forward.

Spec whores should just get themselves a PC. Apple has never been interested in keeping up with other manufacturers based on specs (yet ironically they post the largest profits).

People can bitch all they want about how disappointed they are because Apple didn't update their laptops, but in the end they will still end up buying Apple at some point. The only other alternatives are flimsy and terrible (like the ENVY).

others who make wiser decisions.

Wiser for you dude, it's not all about you. If I could have waited, I would have, but I could not so I did not. I don't know what in the hell is so hard to understand about that, hence the well aimed insult.

I am not a combative kind of guy, but I don't take kindly to being told I did not make the wisest choice in purchasing a TOOL for my living. I could care less about what comes next, these are tools for me, my living depends on having the right tool now, not later.

You need to get over it, everyone's wants or needs are different and you are not a superior being for waiting for what is next, you need to get over it.

I anticipated an update but I always prepare myself for disappointment when it comes to anything apple related. I kinda need a notebook at the moment because it would make life much easier but at the same time I'll get by without one for now... my ppc g4 notebook died early last year so now im stuck to a desktop.. can't move around.. it's frustrating but I'm still alive! I can only wait about 3-5 weeks longer before I start to become extremely impatient with this overdue update.

I am definitely disappointed in the lack of refresh but honestly I did some shopping around this afternoon and found that there are only a small handful of laptops currently using the i series chips from intel and those are all in the 15-17" range. Mind you I didn't do extensive research as it was mostly passing curiosity. Still I found 2 dells and 1 HP sporting arandale, all of which have estimated ship dates in the second week of February.

Disappointed as I was I opted to suck it up and order a machine. Need is subjective, I could have waited but I'd rather buy and use than keep waiting and waiting. I'd have been really tempted to go with a Windows 7 machine but certain apps that are driving the purchase for me are mac OSX only. I'm not happy about spending $1500 on a C2D machine, but then again it's not like the C2D has been banished from the market, especially at the 13" size.

Seems like you're the one who needs to get over "it." Getting worked up over this is simply ridiculous. I cannot imagine how you must react when you purchase something at the grocery store, only to find it on sale for half price the next day. You must become furious. Everyone has their own idiosyncrasies, I suppose.

MBP's on Sale?

I heard they just put MBP's on sale (can anyone confirm)? In the past sales have run a month, which means a month out from updates, so maybe a late Feb update?

I don't see any MBP's on sale on Apple's website yet. And that would bite if the MBP's were put on sale as I just bought mine maybe less than two weeks ago :p

Im disappointed as well. Apple is losing custommers right now. I think that now the high price of the non competitives notebooks is a joke. They'd better update them soon.

Yup. Losing tons of customers. Funny how that leads to record profits.

Are you so delusional that it did it not ever occur to you that time=money? You want to know why you wouldn't be pissed about the grocery store example? Because you were hungry for that product that day, and had you not bought it when you needed it then you would have gone hungry.
To many of these users, actually having a MBP is worth way more than sitting on forums talking about how they are planning to buy a laptop eventually. Who cares if the MBP 2 months later is 20% faster? The one after that will be 20% faster as well, and so will the one after that. There is always something around the bend.

To be honest I think your own words more accurately describe yourself here:
Thank you for proving my point. Perfect example here folks. This user is delusional and feels the need to justify his [purchasing decision] by attempting to insult others who make wiser decisions.

lots of angry people in this thread

i think it's hilarious how so many of you are talking about buying the next macbook while the rest of us are sitting here typing on our perfectly fine soon-to-be-outdated-but-pretty-great-machine-no-matter-what-comes-next macbooks

thanks for the laughs you guys
