What I don't get is wireless keyboards. Does a wire running across your desk REALLY bother you that much?
My issue isn't as much with a wire running across my desk (which by the way, yes, does bother me that much b/c I guess I'm a sucker for aesthetics), but the fact that I need to control things from my bed.

For instance, I have my MBP in clamshell mode on a 37'' LCD, which I use as my monitor for viewing movies, websites, etc. My bed is about 7 ft. away from the MBP and screen, thus, I need a wireless keyboard to control the MBP. The wired doesn't stretch that far, and even if it did, it's cord would be extremely annoying and dangerous to my fiancee and dog if it were in the way.

Bottom line, wireless keyboards DO serve a purpose.

furthermore, if you were getting robbed, i'd use the wireless keyboard as a theft deterrent

I was at the Tampa, FL Apple store this evening, and they had both the wired and wireless there. I was disappointed though they didn't have any wireless out on display to try. I really wanted to see one and try before purchasing, so now I'm still in indecision-land. I have the previous version wireless, so I didn't really want to go back to wired. But on the other hand I do kind of use the num pad to enter numbers when i'm entering numbers anywhere, and dislike using the numbers up above. I do understand why they wanted to make it smaller to use with home theaters though, so I understand their reasoning, but I'm still really torn on this one, not sure what to do. Plus it's 30 bucks more- if it had been 10 bucks more, I would have pounced already, but $50 vs. $80? Just to lose the wire? Hmm, I dunno, will have to do some more thinking, maybe just keep my current one for a while.

well i'm stupid. i guess i just assumed apple wouldn't be quite so douche-baggy about letting you use the keyboard on a pc...so i finally got my great new wireless keyboard the perfect size for my home theater pc and it doesn't work...boo. i guess i'll sell it as i don't want to return it for apple store credit.

(i am a mac user as well, its just not practical for htpc's)

Finally got it! I ordered it on September 13 so it arrived in just under a month. It's definitely smaller than I expected.

I have the new wireless keyboard and love it. Not only is it smaller and much lighter than the previous monstrosity of a wireless keyboard, it has the following advantages:
  • Nice aluminum finish—matches my Mac Pro
  • Power button on the side, not the bottom, which makes it much easier to turn on and off
  • Takes one less battery
  • Quieter keys
  • Encourages me to type more correctly

Basically, I'm loving it.

can you take the keys off it easily?

No, from what I can tell, it's darn near impossible to get them off. I wouldn't even know how to go about doing it, they're like encased within the aluminum (definitely not like the previous model keyboards)
does anyone know if they will work work windows machines?
Yes, they do. I use Windows XP via Boot Camp and it works just the same as any other bluetooth keyboard (pair it and go).

are you telling it to use no key? specifying a key?
i can get it to pair in vista but it never actulaly works. Going to try the bootcamp 2.0 drivers off leopard.

Originally, I had no passkey and it worked. Then I went with having XP give me a passkey, and I typed it in on my keyboard, and it paired just fine as well.

However, this was with XP, I don't know if Vista is different, could be?

I replaced my old Apple Wireless Keyboard with the new one the other day, once I paired it in Vista it worked fine. Dunno why you're having trouble.

In Keyboard heaven

Woohoo. The new wireless keyboard just arrived this morning. I am in love!!!!:apple::apple:

I love the smaller size. My first computer was a Sony Vaio desktop and it came with a small keyboard. I learned to type on it and hated the bigger versions that I had after that one. This one reminds me of that first keyboard in its footprint but gosh it was bulky compared to this sweet one. I am one of those that never use the keypad I have always used the numbers over the letters so this is perfect. And as I use this on my lap and not on a desk I am thrilled with how light it is.

I love that there are keys for itunes now I can skip songs I don't want to listen too:)

It works fine in Parallels with XP didn't need to do any additional setup in windows

I do wish they had made the keys black instead of white. It would have matched the black/silver combo they seem to be changing to and it would have matched my "blackbooks" to perfection.

I give this keyboard a 10 out of 10 rating for sure

You might have me sold. Any problem with missing numpad?

Unless you're doing major Excel or Quicken-type financial stuff, you're not going to miss the numpad at all. I can count the times on one hand that I've gone use it, and realized it wasn't there, then simply used the one above the letters.

The amount of benefit you can get out of its small size, ability to move wherever you want, lightness, etc. really outweigh losing the numpad, especially if you're like me any barely use it anyway.

I thougt I had a great idea.
I had an old topcase from a black macbook were the case had a crack in it.
The keys are still perfect. So I figured that I could replace the keys from the topcase to the wireless keyboard, because it has the same lay out.
So I orderded myself a wireless keyboard, wich was deliverd a lot quicker then I expected. The keys look the same from the top, but the mechanism is different.
Damn!!! :p
Anyway I hope apple makes something like this in the future!
Just use the black macbook keys instead of the white apple!!!
