Probably skip it and buy a cheap laptop which will do much more than the ipad for around the same $$$$$$

When are the iPad 4 rumours going to start?

What shall I do with my iPad 1 if I get the iPad 3?

The iPad 1 is the best piece of tech I've ever owned, but it's showing its age and I've sold it in advance to help pay for the 3.

I feel the same way. I actually thought the IP2 was a very significant upgrade. Thinner, lighter, faster, 2-cameras, more power. Not really sure how much more people could expect, particularly since the IP1 was barely a year old.

Even with this view, I didn't upgrade because my IP1 still worked great. A year later the IP1 still works great - most of the time. Most apps, obviously programmed with IP2 in mind, open with some lag (although they generally work fine), textbooks are just too much, there is often lag when turning pages on books and pdfs, and safari's slowness and need to constantly re-load is getting on my nerves.

My sense is that I'll be upgrading unless it is a very disappointing upgrade.

Surprised by some of the answers in this thread, but I suppose it is understandable. According to friends I know that owned both and tech media, the iPad 2 was a major performance upgrade from the first. I probably would have gotten one if I had my iPad 1 for longer before the second came out.

But anyway, definitely plan to upgrade. Not sure if i'll give the first away or sell it, suppose I should make that decision soon.

Going from iPad 1 to 3, but too attached to 1 to sell or give away. It'd still a darn good tablet - loyal and dependable - and will continue in service as secondary unit.

Haha, any iPad is a great tablet! Keep that thing forever, it will be history before you know it.

Yep, for sure. I don't notice any performance degradation just because it's "old". I sometimes think we chase the latest gadgets more as a fad / fashion statement in wanting to be cool. I'm also not wanting to be part of the use and dispose society.

The 1 is seminal and a classic, so for all these reasons will keep.

Didn't really feel the need for the iPad 2, I thought the improvement didn't warrant the cost of upgrading, Plus I like to put my devices to good use for a few years before upgrading.

I will be upgrading from the iPad 2.

I wasn't too impressed with the iPad 2 upgrade, untill last week when I used my friends iPad 1 again.

After living with an iPad 2 for a year, it was amazing to see how slow the iPad 1 is compared to it.

Last year was a huge upgrade, the design, the processor, the RAM, 2 camera's, a lot thinner, a bit lighter.

The iMac and Macbook lines haven't seen an upgrade as significant as that for about 4 years!

Same thing happened with the 3G to 3GS upgrade, people couldn't understand the difference, but looking back now, the 3GS is even on iOS5 and was a hands down much better phone than the 3G.

yea, the 3g sucked alot once ios4 rolled about

Yeah, it wasn't a good experience. To be honest I think that iPad 1 will be fairly slow by the time iOS 6 comes around because of newer Apple mobile devices with quad-core A6 chips or faster A5's.

Agreed. I'm WELL aware that I don't need the three and didnt need the two. The first one met all my needs--and I utilized it FAR more than others used theirs. But i'll be DAMNED if all of my hard-earned cash goes to nothing but expenses!! nothing wrong with splurging! Not many people will admit to "just because"-ing-- I have no problem doing so!

I still have the 1 and it's basically the upstairs look something up device and my wife's facebook/pinterest device.

I've been thinking of getting one for reading/note taking and possibly accepting payments on the go.

This will be "my" ipad though. She can keep the 1 for the use it gets.

Like others through I'll look closely at how they discount the 2. If I can save quite a bit of money and the 2 fits my needs, then I'll go that route.

ooohhh ooohhh! Me! Me! 'handup

I still adore my ipad 1, I was going to get an ipad 2 when they came out but at first there were none available, when they were available I had talked myself out of them and spent the money. Whoops!

I'm liquidating items on eBay now so I can help "pad" the cost. The real question is...what am I going to do with my original? I don't think I have the heart to sell it.

:apple:

Me! I'm upgrading from my original iPad 32GB wifi to a white 64GB wifi iPad 3 hopefully. I'll be giving my iPad 1 to my parents to use.

Is anyone here upgrading their "old" iPad 1 for a feature packed iPad 3 when it comes out next month?

That is my plan.

Mainly for the rumored higher res screen, a camera (which might be useful on occasion), and the faster speed.

I'll be upgrading from the iPad 1. I didn't feel the 2 was much of an upgrade but I'm sure the differences between the 1 and 3 will be worth upgrading.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

That's great! You'll be pleased with the iPad 3!

Precisely what I'm doing as well. Have an iPad 1 now I got last March and ready for the iPad 3...although my college pocketbook isn't. POOP.

My mother already has her name on my iPad 1 too so I really can't sell it and use the funds for the 3. Guess I'll have to insist on it for a college graduation present?

I will be upgrading from the iPad 2.

When you upgraded to the iPad 2 last year, the 1 was not that slow most likely. The iPad 1 became slow with the last two updates... Many memory errors in the log and frequent crashing now. It just doesn't have enough memory anymore to keep up as far as I can tell.

I bought a refurbished 16gb 3g iPad through AT&T last April for $329. I can sell it on ebay and get my money back so it's a no brainer for me.
