What's the definition of "successful" when the younger people are making money and not having to pay their own bills?

That's not real life, and I wouldn't call that successful.

Dont want to type a full page about it.

Started up two separate companies, takes capital to start a company, already began to reap profits, fortunate enough to have parents that will help in getting him on his feet and pay his phone bill and such. All the footwork and hard work was done by this kid in getting his company going. Research, Exams, networking, and marketing himself to everyone he knew.

Now that i think about it, a majority of my friends have their cell phones paid by their parents and they are all 20+. I'm sure once we are done with school and have jobs we will be on our own. Some people are just more fortunate than others, and that does not change anything about their work ethic.

Don't forget, family plans makes bills cheaper for each individual person if they want to pay rather than going on their own plan.

Everyone was raised in a different style and most likely thinks the way they were raised is the best way. It's the environment you grow up in also.

Don't bash anyone before you even get to know them or meet them.

Work pays for three iPhones and one pantech slate. Mine, wife's, 20 year old daughter, & 12 year old daughter(she ain't getting no iPhone) all with unlimtted texts, day, etc. ( learned my lesson with $500 phone bills for texts alone. With all the phones on our plan it comes out to around $700 a month.

What.

The.

Hell.

Now admittedly mobile phones weren't commonplace when I was a kid, but I simply can't imagine having my parents pay for any sort of service contract for me. I was lucky enough to have them cover part of my college expenses, but I still had to work throughout college to stay in the black. The concept of parents buying young teenagers expensive mobile phones and pricey service plans (and, what's more, continuing to pay for the cost of service throughout college) is really quite alien to me.

Apparently, few know that a cell phone is not a necessity.:(

I pay $160 for my iPhone, my mom's, my dad's, my grandma's, and a friend.

22, in college, parents pay mine...

yea i've been a bit surprised by how many parents are willing to pay for their kids to have iphones. My dad is a radiologist and he complains all the time about having to pay for it... It ends up being about $1,200 per year to own an iphone.

It shouldn't be. I couldn't tell you how many kids in my highschool have BlackBerries, iPhones, Treos, etc. All with data plans paid for by their parents. And this is just a suburb of Indianapolis, imagine what the wealthier cities of the US are like.

Of course, cell phones are common to have these days. Sadly enough, smart-phones are the phones to have also. Pretty much all of my friends either have a iPhone, blackberry, or other various smartphone. Some pay for their own, one of them their company does, and the others have their parents pay for them because they are in college focusing on their studies. Its a different time. I pay for my own data and my parents pay for the additional $10 line and unlimited texting on our family plan. I put my iPhone to full use. I will be paying my own cell phone bill fully once i get a job and i am sure the rest of my friends will be also. The main reason for smart-phones being so popular these days and everyone having one is their fully QWERTY keyboards for their texting or e-mailing purposes.

It is a luxury to have this phone and i am grateful and fortunate enough for it.

I really don't see what is so alien about it, and I do pay for my own bill and I am in college. Is it really that much different than any other bill? Do you find it alien for a parent to pay for their son/daughter's tuition or have them live at home? (Which is indirectly paying for their rent if they don't charge them) A cell phone bill is a new expense that really isn't that much different from other bills if you look at it from a wider perspective.

+1 Thank You

It's not that difficult to start a business when all the materials are handed to you with no obligation or fee. The hard part about starting your own business is figuring out how to pay for your net costs and bills to keep the business running.

Anyone can have a successful business if someone else pays for your bills.

Kids are staying longer at their parent's houses now because they know all of their bills and such are being covered by them. It seems like people now want to act like kids longer, eventually, you will have to do things by yourself. I know other don't agree with me, but that's just my opinion.

Man, I wish I grew up with mobile phones in general, that wuda been great. Wasn't until 19 'til I got my own. Eeek :s giving my age away, haha.

I dunno -- I see a difference between paying for rent (which I consider part of one's living expenses) and paying for a top-of-the-line mobile phone and service. I'd be willing to wager that most college students with an iPhone don't need it the same way they need a place to live or a college education; for them it's a fancy toy and a status symbol.

You are entitled to your own opinion and that is great, i am not going to argue you.

This kid is paying for a lot of the things he is doing with his company. Everything was not handed to him. He is just having his phone bill paid probably to help him on his feet with his company, and once he graduates this year he plans to move out on his own expense and hard work into a new place.

A lot of people just see one side to the person and make a judgement on what they have materially and they begin to bash them. But what people don't see is that for a bunch of them they are determined to succeed. Some people right now are just more fortunate than others to have their parents help them out and get them on their feet.

PPC750FX: Maybe for some people its a status symbol, but the reason why many people have devices like these are because of the full QWERTY keyboard for e-mailing and texting. My Parents want to help pay for my education and wanted to pay 3/4 of it while i pay the rest. In todays world, like it has been for almost a decade now, College is pretty much a necessity to do anythings these days.

Everyone is raised differently and everyone will think there way is the best way.

after reading all 4 pages i have come o conclude that alot of people are payed for by there parents

sure its nice that they pay it, if they are willing to help out then thats fine but if you expect them to pay because your going to collage or what ever then, i would not agree.

on the other hand

its good to be indipendant and pay your own bills infact that is probably the best way to do things so that your already getting in the mindset of saving money to pay bills (unfourtunately im a chronic spender)

i live at home i pay rent i pay phone bill and car insurance. its a way of life better to get used to it early on then be fed to the wolves cold turkey.

I guess I can kinda see your point. But for people who get their parents to pay for everything it's more like, they think their parents way is the best way!

It's proven and obvious. People who don't have their parents backing them with everything (financially), will always work twice as hard to get the same thing that another person who's parents already payed for all of their stuff.

Without the bitter, the sweet just isn't as sweet!

Well...

I'm 17 and on a family plan. For my iPhone it's $40/month ($10 for an additional line and $30 for data and 1500 text). My parents gave me an allowance of $10/week, but I gave that up for my iPhone instead.

So I guess both of us kind of pay for it - it's money that they would have given me, but directly put onto the phone bill.

Thats what I said! I said that my parents won't have to give me my allowance. They say but were still paying for it!! blah blah blah.. I even offered to pay to cancel one of our other cell phone contracts and pay for the iPhone!!!!

Life isn't fair.

EDIT: Well, they didn't exactly say no, but I'm waiting till summer June/July for the next iPhone, if it comes out then. Hopefully Rogers will be forced, or will lower their prices for data and everything else. Heres to hoping. Im sure lots of people want Rogers to fix their prices.

your a failure

with that being said why is this thread a failure? please explain your retarded posts before you make them.

Nice.
People get upset when they see that a teenager has something that they have too. Simple as that. It brings out the immaturity of everyone, then the thread turns into a piss fest.
