I originally had a 5s for a few months before upgrading to the 6.

Was disappointed in the 1gb ram and had to eventually sell it but promised myself I would return for the 10th iphone (Iphone 7). In the mean time I bought a 5s to wait and eventually bought a 7, but decided to return it and get the 10th anniversary model instead as the rumours kept pointing to this being the big update.

Who else is still holding on to an older model?
I nave an iPhone one and an iPhone 4S which i 'm still using ...

I still have a 5 , I keep it just in case of emergency and when I travel and get a local sim card .

My first iPhone was a Black 3GS 8GB that I got in January, 2011, and at the time it was like a revelation. Then I got a 5 Black & Slate in December, 2012, making the pixels on the 3GS screen really stand out. Aside from using maps, checking my mail, visiting websites, and playing simple games when I'm outside, I don't spend a significant amount of time using my phone, so the battery life is pretty good, and everything mostly loads quickly.

Stubbornly, I still have it on iOS 6.1 because I have never been able to fully get over some of the flat UI, thin font, and color palette changes of iOS 7, even though I regularly use an iPad Air 2 with iOS 9. However, iOS 6 Safari does have trouble with modern websites at times, so I use Puffin to get around it. I don't own a Mac (yet), but it seems that the design changes were more thought out on OS X/macOS than on iOS. That said, I do plan on upgrading to a Plus either this or next year, particularly for better video recording, more storage, Apple Pay, and Touch ID.

iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, and 4. Had also the iPhone 5 Slate, but had to trade that in when I switched to T-Mo couple years ago. Still my favorite, maybe just buy it again for memory sake :). Sold the 5S when switching to my current 6S.

A buddy of mine who I work with is still rockin' his 4s. He's not a big tech person, so he obviously doesn't see the need to update his phone every year (or 2-3 years).

For what he does on it, it still works fine. He let me play around with it one day and I noticed the severe lag on the phone (not sure what version of iOS 9 he's on). But again, the device services its purpose for him.

I used my 4 from September-December of last year between returning my leased 6 and buying an SE. Worked ok but was laggy on iOS 7.1.2.

My first smartphone was/is an iPhone 4S. It still works fine and I see no need to buy a new one until it stops working. Last month I had its battery replaced for €25 (parts and labor). With the new battery it works like new again. Thank you, Apple, for making a quality product. My iMac from 2010 (still running the greatest OS X, Snow Leopard), my Macbook Pro from 2009 and my iPad 3 are also all still working fine.

impressive! how long has she had it now? Original battery?
I bought it new in 2010, used it for a few years, upgraded to the 6+ and gave it to her with all original parts and box and an Otterbox Case. She has had it since 2014, she works in the dairy cooler at Sobey's here.

I picked up a 3GS for the nostalgia. I decided to take the sim out of my S7 and live with it for a while. I'm an android guy but a repeat iPhone offender. Recently offloaded an iPhone 7 lol.

Anyhoo, I'm surprised at how you can work around to use such an old device. Sure apps take a while to load but I have Tweetbot 2, instagram, Facebook & messenger, safari is ok but opera if it has issues, iMessage and news.

Think of the money I would have saved if I kept mine...

Oh and its mint with 460 battery charge cycles and 10% wear.

It truly is business suits crapping out phones yearly with minor speed bumps when it's not needed.

It's not my daily, but I do use it from time to time to disconnect from all the social media and such on my normal iPhone. Just has the stock apps plus a few utilities. Works very well.

It was still on iOS 4.0 when I bought it and I used it like that for a very long time but I eventually got tired of turning iMessage on and off so I updated to iOS 6 which is still quite smooth despite the huge gap in specs between a 3GS and an iPhone 5 that it shipped with.

Not to mention it has only 160 charge cycles on the original (as far as I can tell) battery. Holding 1215 of 1219 (1220 MAh is the spec I believe) of it's charge. Crazy as it lists is MFG date in mid 2009.

I also have an iPhone 5 in a box as a spare that gets used by family members fairly often when they kill theirs. And a busted up but working 8GB 5C that I have no idea what to do with. It was dropped in a bonfire and survived. Replaced the LCD and it's still alive somehow. And an old 2G iPod touch still running iOS 2.2.1. Plus an HTC Droid Incredible that was my first smartphone, working and running CyanogenMOD 7. I think that's it for old mobile devices, but plenty below the 5s!

My mother is still using an iPhone 5c which is running 10.2.1. She's very content and happy with the battery life, the speed of the user interface, and really the phone in general. She doesn't use it for much more than basic text messaging, calling, and very light internet browsing. I don't see her wanting to upgrade anytime soon.

iPhone 4 (GSM, Rev A) <-- Was given to from sister's partner who upgraded.
Using it a la iPod Touch (wi-fi only), no data plan.
Even tho I'm kinda like a caveman in a man cave,
I'm fascinated by this little MOBILE (4 1/2" x 2 5/16") device.
But the scarcity of what-I-want-or-like-to-have iOS 7.01 apps is a real drag.
IF I could get Comcast TV streams that would be great.
Democracy Now!, Public Radio, FreeTube (tho nag-annoying) &
that freebie TWiT app (kinda yawn content) function great.
Replaced the battery w/iFixit DIY so Airplane Mode standby is a lot better.
The camera, though functional, doesn't seem so hot resolution-wise.
Every other year I get called for Superior Court jury duty (Alameda County, CA),
so now I don't have to bring a book to read in the waitiing room ;)
(Yes, every other year...this isn't like NYC).

The 5s is going to last for a long time. It is much more powerful than previous iPhones and I expect it will run iOS smoothly for years. The A7 is a powerful chip still. Ram is the only hindrance but that is only a problem if multitasking is something you do a lot of.

The 5 and 5c are still being supported with iOS 10, so it's less surprising to see those phones still being used...Whereas 4s and older it's a bit more surprising!

I am fascinated mostly by people using older phones. Very cool!

Gotta respect people using only what they need. It's something I try to do every year. But I keep getting new phones everytime. It's at a point now where mobile chips are so powerful I don't even know why I keep getting newer models.

lol I too have an odd fascination with people using these till they die - interested in who has had a phone the longest. Wander if anyone is still using a 3gs/4?!

Which year did you got your iPhone 5S???
I know I didn't get it the year it was released. I had to wait and ended up getting the sim-free version with the added bands for Japan. I purchased it January the year after its release.

I also recently updated the software so I can pair it with the Airpods. I wish I hadn't. It seems to be a lot slower. But it's all good, I'm upgrading to the iPhone 8 later this year.

My mother-in-law is currently using an iPhone 5. It is a hand-me-down that we had available to get her out of her 4S, but by the end of the year, we plan to upgrade her to an iPhone SE or just upgrade me to the next iPhone and give her my 6s. I have the budget on lockdown because we are trying to get as much down payment as possible to build our next house.
