Best Buy had on their Web page that the mini will not be available at 8am as in the Apple stores. Not that I would expect to see long lines in the weather they are having. It looks like it will be toward the end of the day after the afternoon deliveries. I'm thinking maybe 5PM like it was for the iPad1

No they didn't, troll.

I preordered and will have it shipped to work, where I am all day anyway. Better than getting an "I'm sorry I missed you" slip. Waited in line for the iPad 2 and it was a nice experience, I prefer not missing work, or taking a day off just for the UPS guy to show up at 5:30pm, when I would have been home anyway!

I'm grateful I work and live near an Apple store. Now, I'm pretty confident I want a mini. I can't make up my mind haha.

Do you guys think there's any chance of casually strolling in at midday and picking one up?

if it meant getting the cellular one, i would do it. I don't think they will have a big shortage of these minus the white one.

I will be queuing up from about 6am at highcross in Leicester apple store. Do you think this will be early enough?

Despite Apple's propensity to (deliberately) create inventory shortfalls and artificially inflate demand, this one is going to be a very hard sell. These are going to be plenty available to anyone who wants to just stroll into the Apple Store anytime on or after release date.

Agreed. Unlike the iPhone 5 there won't be any lines for the iPad mini release. One can tell from the preorders. It took several days to sell out the 1st batch instead of less than an hour like it did for the iPhone 5. That is indicative of much lower demand.

You should be able to walk into the store at a more normal hour and get one. There isn't such a great demand for them. I personally might stop into the store just to look at one. My interest in the mini is not as keen as it was for the iPhone 5 or the iPad 3 when it came out.

Nearly certain that it will be possible should you actually want one. I plan to look, but not to buy since I really don't need it.

I don't have an Apple Store near me, but I'll be going to my local Best Buy, between 6-6:30 AM. I waited 8 hours for an iPad 2 (huge demand, I was 3rd in a line of over 400+ people). So 1.5-2 hours is nothing.

I preordered a white 16GB at 3:20am, 20 minutes after pre orders started in the middle of the night, amazed to see it say 2 weeks. Either they didn't make many at all, or everyone wanted a white one.

I'm hoping to run by mid-morning and see if I can get a white one at the store.

Are stores opening early, ie 8am?
Can you order online on Friday morning and pick it up at the store?
What other retailers will be carrying it? Best Buy? Radio Shack? Staples? Walmart? Target?

I've decided to go to a store Friday morning to buy one. I'll probably get to one by 8:30am, but I really don't anticipate long lineups. Especially since I actually want the black model.

It took me all week to decide that it would be a useful thing to have...that's why I didn't preorder.

I'm about 50-50 on it right now. The fact that I scored on a really cheap ipad 3 is something that is making me consider the mini.

Thanks for the response guys. In regards to the white iPad mini you guys in America are lucky that you actually had pre order stock of the white one. In the uk when website first went up we had no white pre order stock. All said 2 weeks. I'm hoping to get a white one at the apple store tomorrow but will get black if they have one

The black one is very pretty also. I actually think both are equally pretty this time.

heh heh, did you read your own post? You seems to be contracting yourself. The first sentence said that Apple is deliberately creating inventory shortfall. The second sentence is that there are plenty of available. Which one is it? How do you create inventory shortfall by having plenty available?

I wasn't going to get one because of certain specs (non-retina, 512MB RAM, A5), but I realized something: I could buy the next one when it comes out too. :D

On the iPhone 5 Launch Day, I walked into a store around 10.30 am and was out in an hour. People who waited until lunch had a much longer wait.

REALLY? WOW... where are U located?
i am in Providence RI and was gonna get to my local Apple store around 6am

Yea, I'm not waiting in line for this. I plan to roll up around 8:30am. I will be shocked if I do not walk out with a mini.

iPad 4 purchasers may worry even less.

I'm in line already. Only a few people here so far. I'm 2nd in line. The guy in front of me smells like feces.
