I see that you 'cut out' that picture manually. It's easier to press Cmd-Shift-4 then the space bar, which will let you take a shot of a single window :)

Hey your apple bar is gray..... is there different color scemes or is that a 3rd party app.....

MacAztec probably chose the Graphite appearance option in the Appearance panel from System Preferences; similar to Panther now.

System Preferences : Appearance : Appearance : Graphite

Edit: I'm assuming you are talking about the grey/graphite apple in the screenshot.

There's more presence in Oz than there is here! (eg. Apple Australia exists, Apple NZ doesn't). To get AppleCare in NZ, you call Australia.

I don't know how the others got it, they haven't gone into detail so I have my suspicions, but I'm not here to accuse people without evidence.

Needs a new serial, the ones from QT6 won't work. :(

I don't have any H.264 files to try, although the pictures in the manual look quite crisp. Also in the manual is a Movie Recording box, which it says is used to capture video from an iSight or other FW camera.

As you can see, a lot of features are only available in Pro:

Edit: There are two Help menus! BUG!

Any revelations on QT7?
Completely redesigned internals from the look of it. I'll post screengrabs in a little while. The biggest of course is the inclusion of H.264 which by the looks of it, is 2-3 times more efficient than Sorenson 3, and 4 times more efficient than MPEG2.

Redesigned Get Movie Properties dialog window. Way better than in QT 6.

New AV controls with 3x playback speed!

New Export window.

Some other enhancements in QT 7 include live resizing, changeable background colors in full screen mode, new Share menu (similar to Export), got rid of the movie and favorite top level menu commands, added keyboard command for Play All Movies, and numerous others.

My take: The first folks to get it are either large (Premier) Apple shops or p2p downloaders. Then ADC Select members, hopefully. Then on-line orders that are delivered a day or two early. Next, the majority of on-line orders, followed closely (same day) by retail purchases. Finally, those few unlucky on-line orders that experience screwed up delivery, for one reason or another.

Isn't it sad that p2p downloaders get Tiger before paying ADC Select members? Makes you wonder if you're not a fool for paying for your membership, since the p2p folks get everything first, anyway. Apple has been withhold seeds from paying ADC members to try to control the p2p activity, but in the end the p2p folks get theirs, while the honest ADC members have the value of their memberships diluted and wait.

I fixed the iChat (and QuickTime) icons by dragging them out of the Dock then back in. I guess they were cached somewhere. I don't know why there are two Help menus though

I'm also confused as to why the Mail icon updated without any problems, yet the other two didn't. I've also noticed that some of the screenshots have a Startup Disk field in the About This Mac box, mine doesn't.

Lacero, it looks like you have QT Pro. Where did you get it? If I choose Buy QuickTime Pro from the menu, it takes me to a page where I can buy 6.5

A Family Pack is for people living together. So unless you're sharing a home with those 4 friends, you each need to buy your own licenses. Of course if you own more than one Mac yourself, a Family Pakc for youself would be appropriate.
oops...didnt know that. thanks.
Yeah, it's different, I personally think it looks OK, although that compressed one looks terrible.

I have a single G4 and a 128 MB 9800 Pro. Safari is definitely much snappier in Tiger, but I haven't had much of a chance to really try out the system (I'm supposed to be working on a website at the moment!)
cool. the reason i asked is cause i have the same proc speed and was wondering if you had a similar vid card to mine (32mb radeon 9200) so i'd know how it ran.
is there any sort of activation or serial now?

You don't need to enter a serial number when you install the OS, but it wouldn't surprise me if your hardware serial number is sent to Apple when you register.

Another discovery:

CD recording is improved. It no longer constructs a temporary image file, so it's a lot quicker now. It also doesn't ask you to name the CD as soon as you insert it.

nice, quick question, have you started to use spotlight a lot? or does it just sit there?

Don't know about Nermal, but I use it all the time. It's lightning fast. I think it'll change how power users use their computers. If you don't use Spotlight, Tiger may not be the upgrade you need.

Like for instance if I want to change my startup disk, I don't even bother looking for System Preferences and clicking on the startup disk icon, I just press Command-Spacebar, type in "startup d" and hit enter.

I've used it a little bit, and I'll probably end up using it some more as I get used to it.

And another problem - whose idea was it to give two functions the same default shortcut keys?

I'm starting to think that Tiger (at least when upgraded instead of clean installed) is the Windows ME of the Mac OS world

Um......no offense Nermal, but you're the only one who seems to have all these problems in Tiger, if you get what I'm saying. ;)

Anyway, now I'm definitely doing a clean install, even if its not supposed to help or be any better than an Archive and Install. Yours just seems too buggy. I don't want to install it once, find that its buggy, and reinstall it later.

Yeah, well I'm going to clean install this weekend and see whether it helps (I expect it to help immensely). I doubt all the 'haxies' I had under Panther are helping much

Just to review: System came with 10.3.0, I patched it up to 10.3.3, then installed each subsequent patch one by one, right up to 10.3.9, before upgrading to 10.4.0. Add the haxies, install/uninstall cycles, "sudo make install"-ing Linux software etc, and there's a lot of stuff there that can go wrong!

I'm thinking that I'm going to wait until some good updates/patches come into play to make sure when I get it I don't have to deal with all these bugs. Besides that, I don't have the $$ yet lol. I do like the idea of spotlight. I want to try it so bad. I have a feeling I will take a lot of crap off my dock if its good.
