Interesting, no one is really talking about this yet in the other futbol threads. But, if he does, it may well be with the help of their other host of thoroughbreds Ronaldo, Permambucano, Baptista, Kaka, Adriano, Robinho, Cafu, Cicinho, Roque Junior, Roberto Carlos all harnessed by the coaching of Parreira.

This team is just loaded. I'm looking forward to the hypothetical middle field battle much talked about if England and Brazil meet each other in the semis. Though Brazil hasn't played yet, what was seen of England's lackluster win yesterday (specifically from Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney) doesn't convince me that England would come out on top unless they can raise their game which, btw, I believe they're capable.

There's still a long way to go, but I think it's going to be an exciting ride.

Surprised no one voted Argentina. They looked pretty tight yesterday against a very competent Cote d'Ivoire. So I voted Argentina. Though obviously I would prefer England to end our 40 year drought! :)

Good point. Argentina looked strong yesterday and they are certainly to be taken as a serious contender.

i voted england, but we are so going to loose.
I'm not so sure England won't drum up some renewed vigor after their last mediocre performance. They're much better than what they demonstrated against Paraguay, and Paraguay isn't just a little feather weight team. I'm so hoping to see an England vs. Brazil semi. That would be an awesome game.

as long as we beat the french argentina or some other country we went to war with in the last two thousand years i'll be happy.

(thinking about it we've been at war with practically the whole world, apart from maybe poland... i think.)

Argentina were very lucky yesterday.
It's a prejudice other latinos have against Argentina but the joke goes:
Q - "What's the best business deal one could ever make?"
A - "Buy an Argentine for what he's worth, and sell him for what he thinks he's worth."

That is just so wrong.

the opposite is true for the only Argentinean teacher, the department treated him like crap and promoted rubbish teachers over him which then screwed up and resigned again and again.

It's refreshing to see the different styles of play reflected in a team's respective region. What a contrast to watch Mexico and Iran go at it all over the field, from one end to the other. It's already tied 1-1.

south korea suckas!

they got 4th last year, which was crazy; it's rare if they even made it to the preliminaries! but they got 4th last year, and the team is now elite world class. They should at least get top 4, and maybe, just maybe, win the Cup.

oooh...so conflicted.

I'd love England to win, but my vote ultimately goes to the Czech Republic.

Of course, the Czechs play the US tomorrow...we'll see.

Either way, I am looking forward to the game.

Group E is a killer.

I voted Argentina and cannot believe they are so overlooked here. Is it cos they are so far away? Did noone take note of the speed and skill they showed against a really strong Ivory Coast team. Not just attackers, but really tight and (nasty if necessary!) defense.

Ultimtely though, every team is a potential winner because it is a knock out competition and there are so many variables, injury, weather, draw, will Ronaldo have pre match nerves attack, will beckham's hairdresser be finished in time....

Beautiful country, where u from?

My parents are both full Iranian, but I was born and grew up in Louisville, KY of all places  I now live in Georgia...

But Mexico definitely played the better game. Their goals were all much better than Iran's, and they deserved to win. So I'm not bitter about that :p

Brasil Brasil Brasil!!!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
