When did you see this price? Was that about a week ago? Because I am keeping my eyes open and haven't seen any deals in the last week.

hi there,

interesting thread .. this screen sounds great, but i have a question.

do you think it will work with a Power Mac G4 800MHz running 10.1.5? it's the widescreen resolution i'm worried about.

i've spoken to Dell and they said of course it'll be fine, but they would!! their forums aren't so helpful either ...

any advice appreciated. thanks in advance,

C

it'll work your geforce 2 mx supports 1920x1200, dude 10.1, i consider everything pre 10.2 beta make sure you get tiger as soon as it comes out, it'll make it feel like a brand new mac honest

thanks!

10.1 - i know, but its at work. my boss will spring for a flash monitor but won't upgrade everyone to a decent OS!

Well, I just bought one - should get here early next week. I'll post a pic and let you all know if it was worth it :D

Got mine today and hooked it up to my mini. All I can say is that this thing completely ROCKS. Best thing I've done since switch...

That's an interesting combination - mini and a max size LCD :D

Got any pics of the setup?

Not yet (sorry :(). I just moved and haven't nearly finished unpacking. The mini got set up first (of course) but most other stuff is still in boxes.

I'll post when I can though. Needless to say this massive beast completely swamps the mini!!

I had a dual LCD set up on my PC and used it frequently for my work (I'm constantly copying/pasting info from websites into spreadsheet and I hate switching back and forth b/t application windows) so the dell monster is perfect - the absolute largest/highest rez screen drivable by the mini :D

pixel guarantee?

Does Dell have pixel guarantee, like if there are "broken" pixels you can change the monitor?
Do you know if Dell's screens have much problems with this?

Thinking of doing the same thing, so please post pics. Any and all comments you may have on the Dell with the Mini would be welcomed.

video card driver for mac

I have a PowerMac G5 1,8 dual, with ATI 128MB Radeon 9800Pro.
Dells homepage says the ATI 128MB Radeon 9800Pro needs driver update to work with the 2405FPW, but there is no driver update for macosx on their site. Will it work anyway?

I don't know if Dell has a written pixel policy but they seem pretty darn liberal. My first 2005FPW had 3 bad pixels, two towards the center of the screen. A quick call to tech support and they immediately sent a replacement. Honestly, I could have told them that I had 30 dead pixels and they'd never know; it just goes into the pile to be refurbed.

This is backed up on Anand Tech forums where people have had no problems exchanging Dell displays.

Replacement was perfect.

probably for the PC version of the card only

Officially, its six dead pixels or more. Sounds like its not too strictly enforced though, which is comforting. I ordered mine on Sunday night and it arrived this morning (Tuesday), even though I chose free shipping. No dead pixels either :)

Will probably be buying a mini and moving from linux to OSX, but I think I'll put it off untill Tiger is bundled with the mini.

Ahh itd be so nice to have that sitting on my desk right now. :D

I just got mine today and all I can say is WOW.

Its truly a nice monitor and Apple is going to have to do a little catching up on this....

If you can buy one, I'd recommend it.

I'm looking for a second LCD monitor. I am seriously looking into this LCD, even though it's made by Dull.

I'd get over the name - its anything but dull. And for the price you really can't get a better monitor.
