They never put the absolute latest GPU's in new mac pro's so I doubt we will see GTX480 this round

This round? How about never.
My only hope is EVGA makes the GTX 480 available in a Mac Edition.
If not, I'll put in a PC GTX 480 for Boot Camp.

I have to say that I agree with that. I moved most of my media back to my iMac once I got the 27" (specifically iTunes), and the hard drive does slow down when I use it, EyeTV and do other tasks.

I am planning on getting a Drobo S later this year to rectify the situation.

i had it all on an external, it was just the rubbish seagate inside doing it no favours, i wanted to keep it, the screen was awesome, but not justifyable to keep for me. at the moment tempted to build a windows box as getting fed up of waiting

do you use EyeTV storing its taped data on the HDD or in main memory?

HDD in the iMac.

use ram then. Runs a lot smoother and all that, I'm sure you already know that of course

Thanks for the link voyagerd :D

Yea, like "screw-you-faithful-Apple-professional-and-prosumer-customers-we're-busy-selling-iPads-at-the-moment, June"

:(

June will bump into the iPhone v4 launch, so the Mac Pro launch will likely be bumped to fall... oh wait, that's the usual update to the iPod lineup... so maybe November?! Might as well just skip this year and go straight to 2011. :p

2008 Mac pro - Why would you want to sell it for a 2009?

Why am I seeing so many ill-informed people on here saying they want to get rid of their 2008 mac pros? Whats the matter, a 3.2 isn't fast enough for you? Also, my mac pro which is a 2008 3.2 and used for everyday tasks with no need for pro apps is running quite fast. I really don't get it!

I thought the 2008's were doing rather well compared to the 2009's(price and problems)? Now, if you have a 2006 mac pro or 2007 - YES! Its worth it to go with either a 2008 or 2009, but a 2008 to a 2009 simply does not make any financial sense to me.. Nanofrog also believes this as well.

And I am sure the 2010 mac pros won't be that significant either.

LOL, seriously. Their plate is way too full at WWDC. Its hard to fathom Apple would do something so bold as to update half a dozen products in one go.

2008 mac pros 3.0 and 3.2

I have still seen go in upwards of high 2000's and 3.2 over 3100.00

the 2.8 is probably around the 2000-2300!

QUOTE=Cycom;9451522]I've seen '08 8-core Mac Pros going for around $2000-$2300 stock on CL.[/QUOTE]

I went from a 2008 Octo 3.2 to a 2009 Octo 2.93 and my rendering speed jumped about 90%.

I'm planning to buy a Mac Pro, and I render quite a bit.

I'm currently using a 2008 17-inch MacPro

TODAY
Rendered a complicated 3D After Effects Project (2-hours)
Used Compressor to convert the file to H.264 (5 minutes)
Used Compressor to convert the file to WMV (2 minutes)

Rendered a 8 minute video project in FCP (20 minutes)
Exported it to ProRes (10 minutes)
Exported the ProRes file to DVD (it's been running for 2 hours and it's probably going to take about 4 hours total to convert from HD to SD)

If 8-cores help with rendering, then I'm going with 8-cores. :)

They may just quietly push it out in late May. Like they did last year in early March iirc.

They way they avoid WWDC and the iPhone 4.0 media blitz that will follow.

Yeah and you are a fool for doing so!

Yeah, and you are a fool for doing so.. waste of money + the 2009's are still plauged with many many problems(NANOFROG).

I'm having trouble understanding what Apple is doing, as any machine they put out right now has a limited life as it is because of Sandy Bridge's imminent release in Q4. At this point, a new Mac Pro in June wouldn't give the box much time using the latest components to compete with the rest of the industry.

Oh wait, I forgot Apple isn't worried about such frivolous things
